Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten freed another violent criminal yesterday. Darnell Turner is serving 45 years for strangling the mother of his child, shooting at her, and hanging her from a bridge. Of course, the thug appealed his sentence. He asked Judge Wooten to grant him a bond while he appeals his sentence. The ever-so-gracious Circuit Court Judge ignored the Attorney General's objections and said yes, he could go home if he posted bond. Turner made the $250,000 bond and is no longer in prison.
JJ posted the Attorney General's press release announcing Turner's conviction on September 21, 2017:
Also known as Darnell “Slick” Turner, he was sentenced to 45 years out of the maximum of 55 in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Turner was sentenced on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm (10 years), aggravated domestic violence (20 years), and shooting into an occupied vehicle (five years). He also received five years for using a gun during the aggravated assault and another five years for using a gun when he shot into the victim’s car. Additionally, a protective order by Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Jeff Weill, Sr. requires Turner to stay away from the victim, who is his child’s mother whom he beat up, hung over a bridge while strangling her, then returned to assault her more.
“I’m glad to see a person who has no respect for his own child’s mother put away not only from her, but others who could be in his path of violence,” said General Hood. “Domestic violence is a very serious offense, and to have Judge Weill recognize that through this sentencing should let other offenders know this violence will absolutely not be tolerated, and our office will prosecute it to the largest extent.”
Turner was found guilty by a Hinds County trial jury earlier this month on one count of each charge. He was arrested in April 2016 after being indicted for beating the then-22-year-old mother of one of his children, shooting into the car she was in, and dragging her to a bridge where he strangled her before suspending her over the railing. After Turner left the scene in the Washington Addition neighborhood in Jackson, he returned and assaulted a person who was trying to assist the initial victim. He then drove the mother of his child home while continuing to beat her.
The Attorney General’s Office received this case after Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith recused himself due to an admission in open court that he previously represented Turner and that Turner visited him in his home.
This case was investigated by the Jackson Police Department with assistance from Attorney General Investigators Larry Ware, Christopher Watkins and Jerry Spell. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Stan Alexander and Special Assistant Attorney General Patrick Beasley.
Gruesome details. However, such details meant nothing to Judge Wooten. She set his bond at $250,000. If he posted bond, he is placed under house arrest and must wear ankle jewelry. However, he can go to court, work, or church between 6 AM and 9 PM.
Attorney Dennis Sweet, III represented Turner.
Kingfish update on case (8/9/2022): Two years later and Turner is still not back in prison. The Attorney General filed a motion to revoke his bond in March 2021 after Turner did not pay his GPS monitoring fees. Judge Wooten did not rule on the motion (or did not enter a ruling in the docket.). Mr. Sweet filed a motion to dismiss in June, claiming his client was deprived of a speedy trial. Judge Wooten set a trial date for November.

He's sorry! He promised not to do it again
Wooten is up for reelection. Her performance as a judge is secondary to her need to curry favor with certain influential types in the legal community. It's accountability, Hinds County style.
The JJ war on African-American elected officials continues.
But hes a good boy. He just has a temper problem. What a world
I'm confused (but that's nothing new). The article first says Turner was convicted and is serving a 45 year sentence, but that he appealed that conviction to the MS Supreme Court and was released on bail pending that appeal. But then at the bottom, the article says that his attorney, Dennis Sweet, has filed a motion to dismiss based on Turner not getting a speedy trial and that Judge Wooten has set the case for trial in November. I thought he already had a trial and was convicted, so why is the judge setting it for trial again in November ? Maybe I'm mistaken in my understanding given that this is an old article from 2020.
Like Lamumbles, Wooten will win easily because this is what the majority wants.
But they'll demand the state hire ACTUAL judges (in addition) to perform the real job tasks.
Wooten should clearly remain judge based on skin color and symbolism alone.
The JJ war on African-American elected officials continues.
Try Kaopectate or some other anti-diarrheal medication to help you with that problem.
This comedy called Hinds County.
Has he started turning his life around yet?
Wooten will get re-elected in a land slide. Her constituents like this type of non justice. Stay out of Jackson, it’s a criminal enterprise.
“The JJ war on African-American elected officials continues.”, ain't you a daisy.
The SJWs who hide behind racism fallacies to enable unacceptable minority leadership continues too, 10:33.
So he has normal working hours I see.
Concerning the Anthony Fox trial that Judge Wooten presided over, please view the Othor Cain - Therese Apel interview about the trial from yesterday. It can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/othor.cain.9/videos/4948375478600803. Sounds like a total shit show. Further, if 1/3 of what is noted in the interview is accurate about Wooten, she is not fit to be a judge.
15 hrs out of the day to do some real damage.
Hinds County voters will vote for a name they know, nothing more. The vast majority have absolutely no idea who is fit to be a judge or even what a judge's job is all about. I guarantee that only one in five would know the difference between a Justice Court Judge and a Supreme Court Justice. It's partly failure of public schools and partly trust in politicians who want people to stay uninformed. It's sad but it's true.
10:33... really? the ONLY thing that matters to you is that she is African American? Does anything else matter besides her skin color? No one is waging a war against her because she is black you idiot. Good Lord your culture has brain washed you. I am sorry that you are no longer able to think for yourself.
Shot at, beaten, dragged, strangled and dangled from a bridge: like Rasputin, she's not an easy kill.
Woot Woot! smh
Wooten had a county official in the delta indicted on voter fraud only to have Jim Hood have to un-indict them a few days later due to her own incompetence of election law.
Why am I not surprised to learn that the police hating Lumumba is involved?
It used to be that the rigorousness of law school and the bar exam were enough of a gatekeeper to keep most of the Wootens of this world out of the courtroom and certainly off the bench. But law, like every other field it seems, succumbed to the calls for quotas over excellence and dumbed things down.
1:54 their culture has brain washed all AA's under 50. That is why they hate us, and they do. At 72 and seen real oppression, it cracks me up today to see a young AA person being a "victim of white oppression". Strictly learned behavior. GMAFB.
3:38 Sorry slick, but my daddy practiced law for over 40 years and I been practicing for about 44 and believe me, there have always been nitwits on the bench and bar. It was probably worse. You just didn't have the coverage you have now. (among other things) Some of those guys got away with "bloody murder" Times were just different.
I'm not making an excuse for Wooten though.
Who will run against Wooten and what resources do they need? How can we help?
This is disgusting.
@4:29
You are right about coverage, but Wooten is taking card of that whole first amendment thing
Another nice guy back on the street!
@4:46 David Linzy is running against Wooten in the November 2022 election.
So any don't all 'incarcerated persons' appeal and get out on bail, house arrest with ankle monitoring. Internet, TV, door on toilet, AC. much nicer than prison.
