Governor Tate Reeves will hold a press conference any moment now. It will be streamed live on JJ Instagram page.
Update (8/31, 11:00 PM): Governor Tate Reeves and others addressed the media on Jackson's water crisis at a press conference held at the O.B. Curtis water treatment plant yesterday afternoon. Some highlights are:
* MEMA is renting a temporary pump to increase production at the plant. It was supposed to be delivered last night. Installation will take place today. The pump will add 4 million gallons a day to the plant's production. Sources said MEMA is trying to find pumps to purchase for the plant.
* OBC is producing 31 million gallons a day right now. The conventional filter side produces 17 million gallons per day while the infamous membrane side produces 14 million gallons per day. The conventional filter side used to produce 25 million gallons per day as the plant's maximum capacity is 50 million gallons per day. Dr. Craig said (in response to a JJ question about the reduced capacity of the conventional filter production) that the loss of 8 million gallons in daily production was because two conventional filters need to be replaced.
* MEMA will start distributing water around Jackson tomorrow. Ag Commish Andrew Gipson is allowing MEMA to use water from the Fairgrounds well to replenish some distribution as needed. MEMA will issue times and places for distribution. Potable and non-potable water will be provided.

Surprised the city will accept water from the racist fairgrounds well.
Thanks KF for providing straightforward, digestible news.

Once again, maintenance, maintenance, maintenance from the administration long on talk but bereft of any action at all.
Amazing - the city lets the broken pumps sit idle for weeks/months, but within 24 hours, the governor's team has located and rented a pump, had it delivered to the plant, with installation underway as we speak. That's focus and leadership.
This is serious. It’s highly unlikely that the people who let this get to this point have the ability fix it. Water and Wastewater are basic human rights and one of the sole purposes of the instituting of municipal government. The legislature should dissolve the city charter, run the city by a committee headed by Socrates Garret for a year until municipal elections will be held again. He says he runs Jackson anyhow...let’s see it. Then have the state permanently take over the airport, establish a capitol district, contract with Waste Management for trash, and let three contracts for water, wastewater and distribution networks. Tell FEMA to stand by to cut checks like they’ve never cut before...Uncle Joe wants some of this...here ya go...and immediately raise city employees pay by 1.5x to smooth it over. Double the pay of public works employees and hire a public works director who at least makes as much as the school superintendent.
Step aside Choke and city council. You had no direction, no plan. The ship was listing. Had to rely on those you threw stones at. Just wish there was means to recall and oust.
Now its time for the Governor to take the next step and take over the billing and accounts receivable for the COJ water and sewer. Why the hell should I have to pay for the total incompetence of the City of Jackson. If he does not take over the books and repay the taxpayers of Mississippi he will not get my vote next November.
