He just can't help himself. Give the Mayor enough time and he will find a way to tell a lie. While Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba accuses this site of spreading disinformation, he spread a bit of disinformation himself recently when addressing Jackson's water problems.
The Mayor held a press conference last week at the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant to discuss Jackson's water problems and repairs to the plant. A reporter asked him about the chances of state or federal authorities placing the water system under a "receivership." The Mayor said:
Anybody who has any knowledge of what receivership and privatization does to cities, especially cities with the demographics of Jackson, right, knows that is an absolute death sentence to cities. You lose control of the water, you lose control of the city. Point blank. Before Detroit went bankrupt, they lost control of their water system....
Just to reinforce the disinformation, the Mayor lied yet again to the City Council Tuesday as his prom queen nodded along as his trained seal:
The city of Detroit, what they talk about before it went bankrupt, they don't talk about the fact that they privatized their water before they went bankrupt. That was the precipitous move before they went bankrupt......
There is just one problem. Detroit did not privatize its water system, much less privatize it before bankruptcy. Yup. Hizzoner made up a few facts, saw the media lapped it up as the lapdogs they are, right, and kept serving up whoppers.
Detroit filed bankruptcy in the summer of 2013. The receiver discussed privatizing the water system in 2014 but did not do so. Detroit created a regional water board with other cities and counties in 2014 but the new system did not go operational until 2016. The Detroit Free Press reported on September 9, 2014:
The City of Detroit struck a tentative 40-year deal with Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties to create a regional water authority that will provide $50 million annually to finance badly needed upgrades and help low-income residents avoid water shutoffs....
Even if two county boards refuse to sign off, Gov. Rick Snyder would force the counties into the accord, underscoring the fact that Detroit held the political cards to get the deal done....
The regional assets of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department system — which serves 4 million people in southeast Michigan — will be operated by the newly created Great Lakes Water Authority. The DWSD will continue to maintain the plants and pipes that are located within the city’s physical borders.
Under the accord, the mayor of Detroit will get two appointees to the authority, each county will get one appointee, and the governor will get one appointee. Five of six votes will be required to raise rates or make other major decisions... Article
Thus, no privatization took place. The bankruptcy judge basically slammed heads together and told the various Mayors and county governing authorities to work together to create the regional system. Detroit's own website states:
On January 1, 2016, the City of Detroit began leasing regional water and sewer infrastructure, as well as water and wastewater treatment facilities, to the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA). The regional system built by DWSD, serves 126 municipalities in seven southeast Michigan counties. The agreement between DWSD and GLWA includes a $50 million annual lease payment for 40 years to replace and rehabilitate DWSD’s aging water and sewer system. DWSD continues to retain ownership of the regional assets.
Such is why they call the Mayor "Lyin' Lumumba." It is a perfect example of how the Mayor lies at any time in any manner for any reason. It is also a perfect example of why no one wants to work with him. Those who can help Jackson simply don't trust the Mayor and that, my friends, is the bottom line.
One last question: Does the state pay its water bills?
73 comments:
The State is one of the few who actually do pay a water bill !
You lose control of the water, you lose control of the city. Point blank. Before Detroit went bankrupt, they lost control of their water system....
Let's discuss the above statement. Mayor Mary Hawkins does a good job. The city of Madison is arguably the best city in the state in which to live. And they Mayor of Madison has great control over the city. But she doesn't have water to Reunion Subdivision, or Home Depot, or the Hilton Garden Inn, or the Kroger on Highway 463, or many other homes and businesses within the city limits of Madison. So how did she keep control of her city without having the water to about half of her city limits? Maybe it's because she did her job.
Shut the fuck up white boy
There no way in hell that any of the surrounding suburbs are going to be willing to work with Jackson to solve its water/sewer problems. We all know Rankin County is treating their own poop now, and none of the cities in that county rely on Jackson for water. I'm not sure about Madison County. Mainly because of Chokwad and his lying/worthless ass, Jacktown is going to have to weather this storm by itself.
He may be a liar but he's our liar and that is all you need to know. He do always be lookin clean too when he be up there in front of those cameras.
1:21 The only people that think Madison is the best city in the state to live are the people that live there. Don't think you'll get many votes from anywhere else.
Detroit still has a thriving metro just like Jackson has a thriving metro! Mr Mayor welcome the help. We all need real help sometimes!
I know, I know, we want our little kingdoms, but Mr Mayor it ain’t working! Take the help!
This is a no brainer. Do you want to know how to detect when Prince Chowke is lying?
.
.
.
His lips be moving.
Mayor Mary doesn’t need to use the nonpayment of water bills as bribes to get votes from her city, Bumble does. No city, county or 3rd world country is going to join Bumble’s water circus, he’s a fool.
@1:23
Wow, if that statement were reversed, it'd be described as racist.
“You lose control of the water, you lose control of the city.” I think it is clear that the mayor has lost control of the water. It is also clear that he has lost control of the city. There is absolutely nothing that has been improved in Jackson while he has been mayor: Crime, am undermanned police department, potholes that go unrepaired for months or even years, garbage morass, a completely unacceptable water situation, the zoo, poorly performing schools. Somebody please tell us what is better in Jackson since he has been mayor.
1:36. "Somebody please tell us what is better in Jackson since he has been mayor." The Libraries and the Airport?
We got more soul, and more bowties, and more Chrysler cars.
@1:51........the libraries?!?! Shit, haven't they pretty much closed and condemned them all?? I don't fly very much, so I can't really speak to the airport. But, I hear that it's somewhat of a joke.
Lying Lumumba was at Shapley's last night drinking the finest cocktails and purified water that the City of Ridgeland had to offer.
Who has the bigger ego? Liz Cheney or the Mayor?
Governor Reeves? Is anyone at the mansion these days? Please get to work and take control of this situation. It’s your state capitol! Ever wonder why Mississippi is bottom 5 of most metrics?
But as long as he has the “R” next to his name, he’s safe and snug. Might even get to Congress..
Just think, he flies around the country spouting garbage like that off the hip to anyone (and everyone) who will listen and the unsuspecting rubes lap it up as if Lumumba is somehow authoritative.
There have been several mentions of the zoo in above responses. Where are they getting the water needed for these animals to live in and drink?
Truth is but a minor inconvenience to creating your own reality
For Pete’s sake, please learn to conjugate the verb “to be” please!
“Anybody who has any knowledge of what receivership and privatization does to cities, especially cities with the demographics of Jackson, right, knows that is an absolute death sentence to cities. You lose control of the water, you lose control of the city. Point blank. Before Detroit went bankrupt, they lost control of their water system....”
I like how this fool thinks he has control of the cities water problem
"Shut the fuck up white boy"
The persuasive poser of this non-bigoted, well-reasoned and logical argument has convinced me of absolutely nothing.
@2:31 Nice try for your plea at a Governmental handout but it won't work. Jackson did this by electing this joke TWICE!!
Didn't VPOTUS say you get what you vote for? -Asking for a friend
I honestly believe someone is writing the talking points for the mayor to pass on. I don't think he or his staff are creative enough to come up with the lies they spin.
" There have been several mentions of the zoo in above responses. Where are they getting the water needed for these animals to live in and drink? "
Well, I think the few remaining zoo animals can drink any water, unless it's poisoned.
I don't think the cluster f*ck at the O.B Curtis Water plant effects them.
Word is ... their Giraffe is more worried about stray bullets than water.
This is "our" water system!
This question has been asked so many times here it's like a broken record. How in the hot stinking hell is this chump still in office!!?? Crime is outta control, the whole RDI garbage fiasco and the water crisis which is leading to home values plummeting. Again, how in the HELL is this chump still Mayor!!!???
Anybody who has any knowledge of ...
He continually makes appeals to authority that he does not possess.
If this gig doesn't work out he could always pass himself off as a journalist.
1:35 No, that person's post actually doesn't have to be reversed to be racist. It IS racist. It has to matter both ways...or it doesn't matter at all.
How did he stay in office?
No serious candidate ran against him. Happened to Harvey. He had no opposition his first re-election but for his second one, the blood was in the water and everyone got behind Melton.
This past election, it didn't help that Tate, the Democrats, and Republicans passed an incumbent protection act and moved qualifying back to February 1.
He's simply trying to form a parallel to show that the "oppressor" is using the same tactics to destroy Jackson that they used in his father's homebase city of Detroit. It does not have to be true. It was not true in Detroit and it's not true in Jackson but it's an explanation that will play for those who like to hear that kind of bull. At this point those are the only people who listen to his drivel anyway. In fact he's probably hoping they WILL privatize the waterworks, so he can blame Jackson's eventual bankruptcy on that. His buddies in Detroit will love him for it.
" And the Mayor of Madison has great control over the city. But she doesn't have water to Reunion Subdivision, or Home Depot, or the Hilton Garden Inn, or the Kroger on Highway 463, or many other homes and businesses within the city limits of Madison."
Homes in Annandale have Bear Creek Water supplying their water (FWIW).
So why aren't the Fondren, Belhaven and Restaurant and business owners actively campaigning for an oppositional candidate of their choosing?
These people will create signs and march for any virtue signaling event that pays off a bit of their imaginary white debt.
But they wont lift a finger to find an intelligent black male candidate that is not a thief? Hell, even a dumb one and pay him a stipend in additional to the mayoral salary to implement the ideas THEY come up with for him.
An empty suit that can be a controlled puppet.
Basically Biden.
The framing and prosecution of Ben Allen was a brushback pitch to the business community not to get involved in Jackson elections.
Detroit is in far, far better shape than Jackson--and I don't mean the suburbs. I go there yearly to visit family in Farmington Hills, and inevitably end up in the city at some point.
They have reliable water, garbage, and the downtown is really vibrant. (Eastern Market...google it if you don't believe me.).
The senior Lumumba wouldn't recognize the place. After Michigan's brave governor appointed a city manager (Kevyn Orr), things started to turn around. And now it's growing, increasingly safe and happening, and stable city.
Our governor doesn't have concern for common Jacksonians. He's a typical Millsaps fratboy...
Fair. Good Point KF.
The mayor's usually-sculpted hairdo was looking about as nappy and disheveled as the rest of his city last night on TV. Guess he hasnt gotten his Richard's kickback money. Is he about to hire Richard's Water Management Systems? Stay tuned.
4:29. And look at the sad and discouraging plight of downtown Jackson since he left. Her soul is lost.
4:19, you mean like we did with Johnathan Lee, you moron?
BBBBBBut Biden.
Lying Lumumba
Leave it to someone like Chockwe to be incapable of understanding that the city would be better off without him. There is that kind of person who tries to make up for his incompetence by insisting upon his indispensability. Chiockwe’s comments tell you what to expect from him when the State does move in. And the State will because it will have no choice. But Chockwe will be standing behind a podium, waving his arms, screaming racism, etc.
4:11 gets it.
4:19 they already tried that a few years ago. Forgot his name, but he got smoked. Came across as a good kid.
Chowke is a lying little sack of shit. I thought perhaps he was all out of red herrings when he appointed a white herring to the Airport Board, but apparently I was wrong.
The voters in Jackson don't seem to have concerns for common Jacksonians either.
I'd say "typical Democrats" but I don't like to make sweeping judgments.
I didn’t fact check this particular briefing,” but I knew by gut instinct that he was full of shit the entire time. Of course nobody wants to work with him. He’s as sorry as it gets.
Everywhere you turn, there’s blight. He has single-handedly overseen the most rapid phase of the city’s demise in my lifetime.
1:23 watch your mouth! There is no excuse for filthy language !
"Water" is an easy and money maker through out most the country.
Sure you say you won't eat zoo tacos, even after Lil Choke goes all in Caracas. Ole Geoff Goode, in his new place "Cafe Apocolypse", will hunt meat where he can, nevermind the Monkey Pox and diarrhea cramped, walking dead homeless, the desperate and hungry will love those wild Trophies in Geoff's dining rooms!
\
Bring Back Tony Yarber.
Remember, "It isn't a lie if you believe it".
I wonder do Lumumba supporters know that ITS OVER. Stealing grant money talking about crime interceptors is OVER!
The belligerent juvenile, that inhabits the mayah's office, continues to assault an imaginary foe. It is imperative to maintain his charade as the besieged leader of the capital city, in a racist state, with a majority population being
people of color. The hero, so to speak.
It matters not that his administration is a complete failure. He loses no sleep over his citizens suffering from poor drinking water. The roads are in disrepair, rampant crime, dilapidated libraries, businesses fleeing the city, and many other problems. As long as he maintains the illusion of the beleaguered downtrodden savior of his constituents. Through apathy and blind loyalty
he knows he cannot lose his position.
He lies without remorse, he cares not who is harmed, his arms should tire from pointing the blame at others. He is the kind, as one man said, that would throw a rock and then hide his hand as if he had done nothing.
Who, besides the Kingfish, will call him out on his hypocrisy, and lies. In this present environment, he is untouchable by most of the media world.
Well Detroit elected a white mayor so Lying Lumumba better watch out. Plus this guy is a huge moron that can’t tell the truth because he doesn’t understand that most successful people look at him as a fool. That’s the truth. Kingfish you have much more credibility with the public than this big mouth fool we call Lumumba.
Damning reporting out of WLBT tonight. Lumumba administration in total incompetence freefall.
Commitment to public service.
It's a major award.
Someone stole my thunder by mentioning Tony Yarber. I was about to say (so I will): Anybody can fall from grace and become a preacher. In Tony's case, it seems to have worked. Who knows what kind of preacher-man Chokwe will become.
As Anon at 1:28 said, "He may be a liar but he's our liar and that is all you need to know. He do always be lookin clean too when he be up there in front of those cameras."
That comment right there proves he's a good candidate for the pulpit. Put him in a white suit and a gold Cadillac.
@1:21 - Municipalities and water systems are like school district lines and towns. One has nothing to do with the other.
That SOB should be in jail for the conditions that those poor zoo animals are living in.
1:23 The truth must have hurt.
@10:46 I’m well aware of that. I gave an actual example of that in my comment @1:21
I feel sorry for the Giraffe.
I am going to stick my neck out here, but I too feel sorry for the giraffe.
"Do not feel sorry for giraffe. Giraffe have advantage to see around hedge, over tree and through bullshit."
It's a damn shame that elected officials can't be sued for malpractice/mismanagement/gross incompetence.
I'm grateful for a possible solution(a water district with professional and even privatization if safeguards are included that keeps privatization profit increase driven excesses in check by tying increases to actual costs+ a set profit percentage.
But, we will never find any solution if the approach continues to be hostile instead of " I see you( me, we) have a problem (describing only the problem and it's effects) or, how can I help( will this idea help us)?"
I worry some of you are the kind of people that publicly criticize (we used to call that " airing your dirty laundry in public) privately humiliate, browbeat and abuse your children, wives and employees leaving them so fearful as to be useless and ineffectual, behave worse or leave if they are smart enough. And, then, even if you succeed in controlling them in the short term, the minute you are in a weak position, you'll be stunned and angry you suffer (loss of the skills help with inferior alternatives, alimony, the shabbiest nursing home and no visitors or they finally got so desperate , they literally kill you).
At any rate, I'm truly unimpressed with and tired of juvenile insults, endless arguing over who is wrong. I'm unimpressed with those who think the whole world revolves around them and are so perfect they need only to consider themselves.I'm tired of those who try to have me choose between the "frying pan or fire" as either will permanently scar or kill me or those I love unable to hide or escape successfully!
PLEASE JUST STOP WHINING and BITCHING or choosing a side on perceived best chance to have pick the winner or self-interest and come up with ways to make things better in our State and in our Nation!
You are now historically either part of the problem and that's how your children and history will see you if anyone is left after you inflame, pillage and destroy in search of reassuring yourself are strong and superior!
This is the Mayor of Detroit who is turning the city around. This is the type of Mayor that Jackson needs, whether they be black or white.

The amateur psychologist/mindreader at 10:15 am has spoken.
"Municipalities and water systems are like school district lines and towns. One has nothing to do with the other. "
Bovine excrement - their support all come out of the residents/citizens/taxpayers' pockey.
Did you pen that comment from the back seat of a limo while holding a white russian? C.J. LeMaster has recently shown us that "new shit has come to light, man".
August 19, 2022 at 10:15 AM, you criticize, and condemn those that criticize, and condemn?? Anonymous may be your nom de plume, but hypocrisy is your name.
Your extremism is revealed by how you levitate message board comments to the level of child abuse, spousal abuse, employee abuse, and last but not least, an indication of one being a rank terrorist. Could it be you are projecting your faults on to others?
I can't, and will not, speak for others. From my perspective, I post critically, because I don't suffer fools gladly. You are dismissed.
10:15, I think a lot of people would like to be a part of the solution. Lumumba won’t work with any of them. Businesses that have been a part of building Jackson up have recently asked for help. He didn’t even bother to show up for the meeting. He appears to not give a dam. So, although he didn’t totally make the problems, he continues to MAKE THEM WORSE in one way or another. He deserves every bit of blame he is getting.
Lying implies that he knows what he's talking about to begin with. His pressers are just stream of consciousness bs.
