Driver's Service Bureau closed in Jackson
Leftenent Governor Dilbert Hosemann and Speaker of the House Phillipus Gunnicus Magnus issued the following statements.
Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann
“Our understanding is the water and sewer system serving 250,000 citizens of the State and numerous businesses is at the brink of collapsing. We have grave concerns for citizens’ health and safety. It is apparent the cities served by the system do not have the assets to address this issue in a timely manner and effectively for the longer term. I believe it is time for the State to take an active role in finding a solution—both short term and long term.”
Speaker of the House Philip Gunn
“I’ve been contacted by hospitals, businesses, and schools pleading that something be done to address the water crisis in Jackson. Unfortunately, the city leadership has not presented a permanent solution or a comprehensive plan. These groups have turned to the state for help, and it seems we will have to evaluate what options might be available.”

Has the mayor called a press conference to take credit yet? Don’t worry. He will.
Thank god.
No water? No plan. No garbage collection? No plan. Millions of gallons of raw sewage dumped into rivers and creeks? No plan. LET'S THROW THEM ALL OUT OF OFFICE!
We are funding student forgiveness.
Might as well pay for these idiots to get water.
Maybe they'll even pay a water bill in the near future, to keep getting water.
Nah.
Great statement, but do they (Hosemann and Gunn) have a plan as to what to do to solve this mess?
There have been several ideas floated but they ran away from all of them - hopefully, and I believe it will turn out to be the case, they have come up with some appropriate legislation to take over this operation and get it back to normal operations.
Transportaion Secretary is literally handing out 100 million dollar bills for infrastructure improvements.
Y’all got his number?
Hopefully this is a state takeover.
Any money given to the clown Mayor, and the clown show at City Hall, will be wasted.
Giddy up, giddy up,
He's a long tall Preacher,
He wears a big white hat;
He'll fix Jackson wahwah,
God has told him that;
He wears a badge and a gun
Cause he's the onliest one
We got to enforce the law.
Let them eat cake!
Yes, we have to fix the water plant so we can give it back to the city and their 2 certified operators can wreck it again
Why is the rest of the state supposed to repair Jackson's mess? What about other cities who know how to run their cities? Sounds like the mayor of Jackson will get what he wants, a blank check made out to him.
Da Mair can get Jackson out of this water crisis RIGHT NOW if he would just call a press conference and instruct us who is the appropriate people to blame for this mess. That's how real Mairs do accountability.
Dear State Leaders,
We do not want our tax dollars spent to solve Jackson’s self-imposed problems.
Sincerely,
Everyone else in Mississippi
Antar, by his total incompetence, is hold the Capitol City hostage. The state solutions should come with handing over ownership, control, and Antar's resignation.
Reeves is going to call for a special session to deal with Jackson
[T]he city leadership has not presented a permanent solution or a comprehensive plan.
Bennie Thompson has said that same damn thing more than once.
The Emperor Polluter is politically deaf, dumb and blind.
No need to comment…52 MILLION gallons of sewage and no city south of Jackson has filed a lawsuit…the boy with the gray beard needs to be lead out of his office in handcuffs…you can’t drink the water and you can’t flush the shitter because of no pressure. Businesses cannot operate sue to low pressure and shifty water and yet his ilk thinks he is the messiah. Where are the DEQ and EPA? Oh, they are afraid of being called a racist…am I right? This “Once Great City” is no longer. It has permanently been destroyed. Third world countries act better than this but you all know his daddy and Bennie Thompson wanted the 5 state plan for their followers. Didn’t work out too well for his daddy. Too many people remember that he was involved with a terrorist group that killed policemen.
Any special session MUST include legislation allowing for the recall of Jackson's Mayor and Council members.
Instead of fixing the water system, just sell every home in Jackson a britta water filter, finance it for a year, problem solved. It will get rid of those turbids. Your welcome Mair.
This is what happens when your city is gumflapped to death for six consecutive years.
RESIGN Lumumba, RESIGN.
Hopefully the state will takeover jackson and kick the clueless government out and install project managers/business people in their place.
To all the naysayers asking “what’s their plan/how will they do it”
Well I was living on the gulf coast about a decade ago. One of the coastal cities down there, a Chinese firm won a bid to replace their municipal water system. I believe xenophobia and the post-Katrina “Chinese drywall” controversy ended that partnership.
Mississippi should look to China for help. Hell, we could pay them in soybeans and catfish.
I don't live in Jackson. It's not my responsibility to pay tax dollars to fix their long mismanaged problems. This is what happens when you give away free water and don't make people pay for it. For decades. Jackson just needs to fall into bankruptcy
If these dopes enable the mayor ladumbass they are complicit.
I'd be more impressed if the five senators demanded Lumumba resignation.
Whatever the fix, the State and Bennie T will not put funds through Lil Choke's hands.
Can Andy Gipson run the Jackson water fix, earn a future governorship? Step in, step back, like a line dance Mr Gipson.
Instead of playing the blame game, spend your time helping your friends and neighbors cope with this disaster, which is the product of many years of mismanagement and under funding.
"Raw sewage discharge has closed the Pearl River."
Oh really? Like "closed" like the southern border of the U.S.? Where do they come up with crap like that?!
PERS & MDEQ offices also closed to visitors. I assume many others.
All of the politicians are posturing for the next election. I will actively campaign against any of these clowns that bail Jackson out of this self created mess. Seriously, it might be cheaper to relocate the capital than to start pouring an undetermined amount of the taxpayers’ money down the sinkhole that is Jackson. Let’s be honest here, none of our state “leaders” have the balls to do what is necessary to correct the many problems that Jackson presents because they are afraid of being call “racist”, and it is unreasonable of those that choose to live in Jackson and operate businesses there to expect the citizens of the State to pay for their inability to elect competent leaders. Therefore the problem will not be solved, and that my friends is the bottom line.

You ain’t gonna do shit! Your ass is too lazy to “campaign” against anyone.
Your Capitol would cost about a couple hundred million to rebuild. Then all the functions of government, agencies, would take several hundred million more to relocate. Unless you would want the state to waste money leasing space all over the place.
I guess you would want us in a warehouse off McDowell. That would impress folks looking to do business with the state.
Sit down shut up and enjoy the shit sandwich you are being fed.
Democratic Party Playbook
Chokwe: "I learned that you 'never waste a crisis'".
Me: "So, what do you plan to do?"
Chokwe: "Create as much or as many serious problems as possible, and just wait for the state and feds to have to pay for it all, and we'll take all the credit."
Democrats are a disease who think they are the cure, and depend on the uninformed/uneducated to believe it.
Surely, there is some provision in State law for revoking the City’s Corporate charter and placing it in receivership. The State should step in and run it. How much worse will it have to get before action is taken? The City has repeatedly proven it is not capable or remotely interested in taking care of the things for which Municipal govt is responsible, you know things like safe streets, a criminal justice system (competent police & Judges and adequate jail space), safe drinking water, sewer service, adequate drainage, parks and recreation, etc. These things are not glamorous and exciting, but such is the business of municipal govt. Seems most of the folk on the payrolls either don’t care, or are incompetent, or both. My guess is both incompetent and don’t give a s….
To a cancer patient, a day without pain is a miracle.
To a blog reader, two hours without a new thread on Jackson waste water is like....well....a miracle.

Yes. The posturing by Tate Reeves, Philip Gunn, and Delbert Hoseman (said posturing having been engineered by Hoseman, Mississippi’s most liberal Republican) is intended to give the Biden Administration political cover to bail out Jackson. Behind the scenes, the staffs for these Republicans are working with Biden officials daily. The plan is for the Feds pay to fix this mess with little or no money from the State. In return, Lumumba’s wings aren’t clipped in any way.
