The Jackson State University issued the following statement.
The City of Jackson is experiencing unprecedented water pressure issues, impacting the availability of water on our campus. The low pressure impedes water flow to the upper floors of residence halls. As a result, Jackson State University is making the difficult but necessary decision to delay our Move-In Days for new and returning students. While we know this is a huge inconvenience, the postponement is the right thing to do to prevent students from arriving on campus while we’re experiencing these water issues.
Subject to the water pressure being restored throughout the city, First-Year and Transfer Student Move-In will be postponed to Thursday, August 18, and Friday, August 19, from 8 a.m. CST to 8 p.m. CST. The Financial Aid Office and the Business Office will be available to assist students with completing the registration process.
Returning Student Move-In will be postponed until Saturday, August 20, from 8 a.m. CST to 8 p.m. CST.
Students on campus as members of special groups will be given further instructions by their respective organizations. If you have an extenuating circumstance, please email HousingInfo@JSUMS.edu.
Classes will begin on Monday, August 22.
Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work with the City of Jackson to remedy the water issues. We will provide additional updates in real-time as more information becomes available.

Water will not be fixed ever
So, how is Jackson going to attract tenants for that new high end loft, if they can't even provide water for our existing college students?
I'd never invest money here.
JSU needs to call Millsaps and get the company who is digging their well to give them a price, because this isn't going to get fixed any time soon. JSU is a small city they can't operate like this.
When will this $HIT end...literally?
I feel sorry for these students. They deserve so much better.
And I blame the white guilt ridden libs in Fondren and Belhaven for a lot of Jxn's woes.
In the name of social justice warrior-hood, they have demanded silence and/or tolerance of all of these infrastructure issues to blindly champion black leaders that have zero qualifications.
If they really wanted to be good people, they would be protesting at City Hall and demanding Chuckles show a detailed plan to fix this.
But they cant. Because...racist. So enjoy the land you freed.
Of all city type services water the biggest money maker and simplest to provide. Every little cross roads area in the country has a water system that works. It takes a lot of work to mess up "water".
write off a semester-
What a disgrace! I hope JSU administrators listened closely to Chokwe’s presser where he stated that the turbidity problem will likely remain until construction and facility improvements are completed in late October or early November. Eau de toilette takes on a whole new meaning in Jackson. What a shit show.
Seriously, what will they do when the get students on campus and these problems re-occur? And to think that Mayor Megalomaniac wants as much of the metro as possible dependent on Jackson's water and sewerage management.
8:42 is correct. That’s how we got in this mess.
Jackson State already has housing issues anytime there is even a slight enrollment increase. There are never enough dormitory rooms. Now when you couple that with these water issues there is no telling how many prospective students will simply go elsewhere rahter than tolerate this crap. JSU had a great year public realtions wise, but the City of Jackson will bring them crashing back to earth. It's a damn shame.
Why not connect hoses to Madison county.
@8:42 AM won the Jackson internet today.
@8:27 - it's not the source of the water that's the problem, it's distribution, billing, maintenance... those little things that aren't cool like a real-time command center, but still need to be done, every day.
Maybe Prime Time will fix the problem.
The IHL doesn't have to keep the cap on J-State enrollment. Chokwe and his minions will do just fine!
Can you imagine what Jackson would be like if they didn't have the retail outlets in Madison and Rankin counties to rely on for their basic needs ? It's really scary when you think about it,
Have they tried unplugging Jackson and then plugging it back in?
And a few poor souls actually believe Deion Sanders will remain in Jackson forever.
Quick, we need a witty quote from Deion Sanders.
Maybe if JSU didn’t piss away money they could afford to drill a well.
The mayor said in a press conference just a few days ago that it would be one year before the water is fixed.
