Welcome to another edition of Matchbook Monday. The matchbook posts are now far and few in between as the supply of such history is rather limited. Feel free to add your stories or any information about them in
the comments section as you enjoy these blasts from the past. Readers
can email copies of any old matchbooks to kingfish1935@gmail.com. Can't believe no one has a Sam's Westside matchbook. A shame Swenson's didn't have one - or did it? Enjoy the ones posted below.
It opened in 1960 to much fanfare.
It is now the Regency Inn on 1714 Highway 80. Remember the Town Fish House?
Next up is Foster General Hospital. Yes, there was once a hospital in West Jackson.
JJ came across one from Camp Van Dorn.
Last but not least, is the Oak Forest Grocery on Cooper Road.
The owner died in 1973.

I loved Saturday evening trips to Town Fish House when I was a kid!
I believe that the New Orleans Cafe was where Tico’s Is now. We knew Foster General Hospital as the Old VA Hospital.
New Orleans Cafe was in front of Tico's parking lot
Yup. NOC was at the front of the parking lot. Sundancer matchbook would be nice as well.
NOC building was originally a Putt-Putt, or something similar. They had video games inside.
Mississippi True can save Foster General Hospital...
Fun flashback time, KF. Thanks! Flamingo, remember it was there, but meh. Town Fish House I remember as well, but only passing it on 55 south. The 1989 CL page I remember just about all of those. Kathryn's is still around. Went to Phil's Place many a time. The Joker's building and sign are still around, but guess it's been closed several years now. My Favorite Spaghetti was two blocks from where I worked for many years, great place to walk to on a nice day. Ditto for Two Sisters. I'm one of the few people I know who knows anything about Camp Van Dorn, but then we have family from Centreville.
You need match books from all the great old Madison places. Bonanza, McDonald's,Steve's gas station, Barnhills, Western Sizzler, Burger King, etc...
Anyone remember a restaurant named Le Ruth's? It was on fortification at i-55.
