The family of deceased JPD officer James Hollins is defending him. JPD suspended him Sunday after receiving a complaint he had sex with a 15 year-old girl. The attorney for the girl's family, Lisa Ross, accused him of having numerous sexual encounters with her over a period of six months. Officer Hollins killed himself Monday afternoon, a few hours after Ms. Ross made the accusations at a press conference. Hollins' step-mother, Dawn Davis posted this statement on her public Facebook page:
The truth of the matter is that James Hollins was one of the best Police officers JPD ever had. Ask anyone who worked with him and they'll tell you the same! He was a veteran, an officer, a great daddy, and was about to be married. He made a mistake as young people do by allowing himself to be deceived by a woman (as she claimed and appeared to be when he met her as she was leaving from a 21+ club). This wasn't going on for 6 months! That's a LIE being told by a lawyer who wants to manipulate the system for her own personal gain. This 16 year old (NOT 15, lying lawyer Lisa Ross!) has a fake ID, a fake name, and not a single one of you would have questioned whether she was of age!
James, a good man and a great father and someone who fought for each of you as Americans, was devastated when he found out she was 16! He had no idea she was not an adult! And after he found out he could not live with himself nor bear the thought that he might be found guilty in spite of what he knew to be true about this situation. He could not bear the thought that he might not be able to be a police officer anymore. All he ever wanted to be was an officer. He loved protecting people. He loved serving. And he could not bear the thought that this mistake might cost him his family. His fiancee did everything she could to assure him she was sticking by him, but he was too distraught after seeing all the hate and ignorant comments from people calling him a pedophile, a child molester, a predator, and a rapist. He was none of those! He would not have even looked at her twice if he had any hint that she wasn't of age! Anyone and everyone who knew James will tell you the same thing. All of you should be ashamed coming here talking about a person and a situation you know absolutely nothing about. His blood is on your hands as much as it is on the hands of Lying Lisa Ross!! He was our baby and he is gone! I'm praying hard to forgive Lying Lisa Ross for telling her lies without regard to the lives she impacted with them. I'm praying hard for James's soul because the God I know is full of mercy and grace. I know He will not forsake James. I'm praying hard for that 16-year-old girl who is being preyed on by this vulture of a lawyer Lisa Ross!
I wish I could be as merciful. As far as I'm concerned, Lying Lisa Ross killed our baby. May God have mercy on her soul! I wonder if her 15 minutes of fame was worth it to her. Is she mad because Jxn Mayor didn't hire her? What's the real story there? She should be ashamed! Don't believe she's lying? Compare what she said yesterday to what she told Big Mama's Bail Bonds (another page full of sensationalized insanity for ratings and likes).
And we are filing a complaint against WJTV 12 News asap. (Make that another complaint as I filed with the FCC against them years ago!). We, his family, found out about his death from their ignorant posts of his photo on social media!! They KNEW that his family had not been notified when they published their story! They are so concerned about getting the scoop on WLBT 3 On Your Side because WLBT always beats the pants off WJTV in ratings that they were willing to release this before we knew! Do you know what that did to his daddy and I? To his grandmother? To all of us?! I'm sure they don't care. Share that!!!
This is the truth, now let's see if 16 WAPT News or WLBT or Clarion Ledger or FOX 40 News - WDBD will talk about the truth!!! I wouldn't speak to WJTV if it was my dying breath.
Kingfish note: Ms. Ross held a press conference in front of JPD headquarters at 9:30 AM Memorial Day. This website as well as WAPT, WJTV, and WLBT covered the press conference. The complete video of Ms. Ross and Mayor Lumumba's press conference were posted on this website.
JJ is more than willing to interview the family and publish their comments on this website.

I know both family’s are hurt, but to the Hollins family, do not play to the media, keep your comments private. As long as you know your son was a good man. Keep that memory! No words or social media can destroy that. Silence!

About to be married, but yet had a side piece. I'm no saint, but I do know that the 2 years leading up to my marriage to my now wife, didn't include me getting a little extracurricular.
Human affairs are never as simple and clean-cut as I'd like them to be. Thank you for posting this.
Two sides to every story. I think the fault lies with the girls mother...why is her 16 yr old daughter out at clubs, talking to grown men? Shouldn't she be at the mall with her friends? All of this could have been prevented by good parenting.
Suppose claim about meeting Freelons is true, how many of us knew girls who got into the Dock while underage?
The girls'family went to Ross on Saturday and on Sunday the department suspended the officer and started the investigation. What was the point of Ms. Ross' first news conference? Did the police say they weren't going to investigate or suspend the officer? I'm trying to figure out why this thing had to be so publicly announced. Where's Carlos Moore?
What everyone is forgetting is that the mother called the precinct commander for two days before calling the Chief. I should have asked the Mayor about that Tuesday. Will the precinct commander face any accountability for not calling the mother back?
Since Davis isn’t going to be canned or step down it’s logical to go after Hollins’s direct command. After all this did take place over a period of six months. Some heads have to roll.
I’m still wondering if Priester was accurate in stating that it needs to be ruled out that Hollins was not a lone wolf.
I just hate to see grieving people rolling around in the dirt in front of television cameras.
More jacktown drama.
Wait a Darn minute! He's a police officer. He could have check her age with a
police data search.
Many sad aspects to this story. The "ready-fire-aim" news outlets combined with social media are driving the new mob rule mentality. People need to quit reacting to unsubstantiated sound bites and opinion-pieces, and wait for the facts.
Nothing to be said. This is a sad situation on both sides.
@10:25 DITTO!
More excuses to excuse someone who should have known better. As a veteran and a policeman he should have held himself to much higher standards than a tawdry back seat affair.
She was underage in a nightclub? Where were her “parents?”
Her parents should be charged with child neglect or failure to supervise this walking jailbait-lawsuit but then they got what they wanted.
They’ll buy a ten year old Mercedes, rent a mini mansion, patronize the nail and fake hair salon til they blow the lawsuit settlement. And blood on their hands.
There’s a big lesson in this-find some self control! Difficult as it is temptations can be resisted.
An old saying says that there are three sides to every story: that of each party and the truth. Thus far I haven't heard anything from anyone that I'd accept as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth but I have heard a whole lot of stuff that sounds iffy at best. The one thing of which I am reasonable sure is that this will end badly for all or most who are directly involved or choose to insert themselves into this tragic, sorry mess.
"Big Mama's Bail Bond"....
You people are the under-belly of society, a virtual subset of animals in the zoo. Engaged to be married, the pillar of local morality, just wanting 'to protect people', a dream to be an officer...yet clubbin' and knockin' off strange for months. Had he already placed a deposit on his tuxedo?
But these days the press and media make no great effort to investigate and report facts, 12:22. And the vacuum from their lack of effort sucks in rumors, wild speculation and opportunistic sniping from critics of those involved. So here we are again.
Oh, now it's the victims fault?
She was 15 when it started, not 16!
It's ok to get multiple BJs in a patrol car from a 15 year old?
Only his little brain was convinced she was 18; his big brain knew she was a minor!
12:07 - contrary to what you obviously think, police do not have access to run a background check on everyone they meet. Additionally, it's not even legal for them to do that for their personal reasons.
Nothing is as it seems. How Zen.
Lyin Linda and Big Mama's Bail Bonds... you cant make this stuff up...
Speaking of Freelon’s, it’s time to yank the liquor license.
Female children are much wiser than our laws give them credit for. This is a classic example of a mother (maybe the father as well) not knowing what the f--k her daughter is up to. Yes, the cop was a dumbass for engaging in this behavior, but little miss "fake ID" is just as guilty.
Attention Men!!! Keep your zippers up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Children parrot the behavior the see at home. From the time they're three years old, they memorize the behaviors of their momma, daddy (if they know him), auntee, uncles, older brothers, preachers and older siblings. And then 'you people' blame it on society.
4:49 somewhat true, but you have to take into account that teens seek the approval of their peers as well. Social status.
The ethical inconsistency of all the comments is pretty hard to take. No doubt you are all saints every day, all the time and never face a moral dilemma and are emotionally in control every second with perfect situational judgment.
This very sad story is a story of failures and bad decisions great and small.
I'm trying to not be envious of your infallible clarity of how all the outcomes of your actions will affect your life in the future.
10:37 - That reality seems irrelevant in this particular discussion unless you have evidence she was telling her friend-girls about her adventures in the patrol car....which is doubtful.
