From on or about April 20 to on or about April 22, 2019, SEARS contacted TM via cellular telephone. At the time of receipt of these calls, TM was located in Kansas City, Missouri, and TM believed, based upon social media posting that SEARS was located in the city of New Orleans, Eastern District of Louisiana, where TM otherwise knows SEARS to reside. During these telephone calls, SEARS stated in substance, SEARS needed $1.5 million dollars deposited into his account SEARS further stated he needed the currency placed into his account by Friday, April 26, 2019. After receiving this demand, TM blocked SEARS from being able to call TM. Soon after TM blocked SEARS from calling his cellular phone, TM learned SEARS contacted TM' s closest friend and associate.
Affiant spoke to both TL and TYM and learned the following; On April 23, 2019, starting at approximately 1:57 a.m., via group text message, a copy of which has been reviewed by Affiant, SEARS TL and TYM. In one exchange, SEARS stated in substance, 5 MILLION BY FRIDAY IM DONE TALKING EMAILING TMZ NOW. In a later text in this same text string, SEARS provided a screen shot depicting his bank account information, identifying the means by which TL and TYM were to deposit the United States currency into SEARS' account.
In addition to the text messages, this string contained an attached voice memorandum, during the content of which, an individual whose voice was recognized by TL and TYM as being that of SEARS, stated in substance, I WANT 1.5- MILLION BY FRIDAY OR I AM GOING TO KILL ALL YOU ALL. During this memorandum SEARS referenced "Era Nation." TL informed Affiant, "Era Nation" was a Youth Mentoring Group, the members of which are TM, TL and TYM. At the time of this text exchange TYM and TL were located in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
TYM and TL were previously close associates of SEARS and were familiar with his character and demeanor. Based upon their respective knowledge of SEARS, TL and TYM informed Affiant they believed SEARS was capable of committing the threatened acts of violence, and they each feared fear their safety as well as the safety of their respective closest friends and family.
Bond was set for Sears at $25,000. However, the Court revoked Sears's bond on Wednesday. He didn't help his case by cutting off his ankle bracelet and testing positive for various drugs.
