The following public service announcement is posted below.
The
People’s Advocacy Institute in partnership with over a dozen community
organizations are hosting a series of free community training as part of
the Love JXN: Saving Our Selves violence interruption initiative funded
by FWD.us. Love JXN:SOS is an extension of the Jackson community's
dedication to improving the lives of all Jacksonians through promoting
reconciliation, violence interruption, and offering situational
training.
The
first training will be hosted by the People’s Advocacy Institute in
partnership with the City of Jackson and the University of Mississippi
Medical Center to offer Trauma First Responders’ Training to the public
in an effort to help save lives and empower bystanders to take an active
role in caring for someone affected by an act of violence. Traumatic
injury is the leading cause of death in the United States among people
aged 1 – 44 years old. First Aid from bystanders has been shown to save
lives. Bystanders are present at nearly all traumas and are more likely
to help when they have first aid training. This is especially important
here in Jackson and the surrounding areas due to transport times to the
hospitals.
This
FREE training event will be held Thursday, May 23, 2019, from 6:00 –
8:00 pm at COFO Civil Rights Education Center located at 1017 John R.
Lynch St., Jackson, MS 39203.

What a bunch of gobbledygook. Call it what it is: First Aid for People Living in a War Zone.
Wonder if there will be a shoot out there like they had in one of the march for peace things?
Apply direct pressure and call 911. Training complete.
Is that the kind of horse shit that Obama promoted when he was an aspiring community organizer? Maybe this group is just preparing for when the EMTs refuse to work in Jacktown.
So UMMC is teaching a free first aid course, but the mentioned groups are taking credit for it.....? But wait, UMMC is a taxpayer owned facility, so as a taxpayer, shouldn't I receive credit too? Much more than the non-profits that don't have any skin tn the game?
Almost like combat medic training we had in the Army. Jackson is a third world war zone.
This is an admirable program.
Yes, Jackson is what it is, but I respect those willing to learn how to help others. Taking proactive action in emergency situations is a good thing and congrats to those willing to help.
