A jury awarded $3.3 million to six black strippers yesterday after it determined Danny's Cabaret/Restaurant/Of Jackson discriminated against them because of their race. A docket entry in the federal court file states:

The dancers filed a complaint with the EEOC. The agency investigated and sued the Owens' consortium in 2016. The trial lasted for six days. The case was assigned to Judge Wingate.

So, will Danny's be forced to close? How will they get this paid off? I wonder if they will raise the cover charge, get rid of free beer night and limit their song selection? My desert island song is Back in Black, the licensing fees aren't really that cheap though.
Danny Owens Sr. is in jail. Danny Owens Jr. is not. He runs the place. It is by far the finest strip club in Mississippi. One of the top 100 finest strip clubs in the South. Maybe this will cause more dancers from Black Diamonds to come over to Danny's???? I hope so!

Danny Owens also has Danny's Cabaret in Memphis and the new King of Diamonds (K.O.D.) club but like its Jackson sister club, K.O.D. has experienced its share of setbacks and legal difficulties. K.O.D. is the new manifestation of its older club, Black Diamonds which was located on the far west side of Jackson. A patron unfortunately stabbed another patron at 5 am, resulting in the temporary closure of the club. Early birds normally get the worm, but this one got the knife.
I just go for the food. The lunch buffet is fabulous, and everyone is so friendly. No one judges you if you want to down a few long necks with lunch. I hope this doesn't mess up a good thing.
Someone told me years ago that this was common practice at white-owned clubs in Memphis, so not surprised it would be exported to here. They had something like a quota for AA dancers but not for whites. All based on the idea that all of the AA dancers were prostitutes just using the dancing as a way of getting new johns, with the obvious comparison/conclusion being that the whites were just "nice girls" who need some easy money.
I'm layin' 400 to 1 odds that all you goobers carefully read every line of the order hoping to see the word pussy or nipple. Any takers?

I am a fervent Trump supporter and a MS flag traditionalist, yet I prefer African-American strippers any day. On average, they are by far more disciplined and dedicated than their pasty counterparts.
This message goes out to Danny's: You should pay them extra than the white meth heads. Black Diamonds, King of Diamonds and Freelon's are far too dangerous for our tastes. Bring these lovely ladies mainstream!!!!

Danny senior called a lot of hits out of the pen when he was in Brushy Mountain which is now closed. A family member of mine knew him and for what it’s worth, I wouldn’t want to get on his bad side.
I find no defense and wonder if there was any offered. Seems to me if you had all new employees work at all different days and times for a specified time frame and recorded the crowd sizes and beer sales for each, you could then arrange the schedules to maximize profit and it would not be discrimination. I would like to think that the business owner has the right to maximize profits.

Using your logic, if you had a factory working three shifts and you ran a survey which revealed the shift of men under 40, none being obese or physically handicapped and only a few being African American...You 'think the business owner has the right to maximize profits' and use that model on other shifts, wouldn't you?
NO! Once charged and investigated, you'd wind up with a consent decree shuffling all three shifts until there was equal representation of women over 40, men over 40, disabled workers, a few obese people who need stools and at least 55% African Americans. And if you're in at least sixteen states (Mississippi not being one of them) you can add a good number of homosexuals to the shift mix.
8:50 PM, good points. It seems like these could've been avoided with better management. Why on Earth are these girls making their own schedule and choosing when and where they get to dance? Any job I've ever had, I never told the boss which branch/location I would be at. Quite the opposite.
It is a privilege to grace one of the fine stages in Danny's establishments. They should only be so lucky to get just a fraction of stage time.
One last thought, there's blue collar crimes, white collar crimes ... what is this? Muddy Overall Crime?
I think the girls make their own schedule because they are independent contractors. The girl actually pays the club to allow them to dance there, then the girl keeps most of the dance money (and the club gets a small cut).
The problem is that evidently Danny's charged the black girls more to dance there, and also told the black girls "if you want to be allowed to dance here, then you have to work a shift at the other club also".

BFOQ would've possibly saved them if they were clearer. A club like Black Diamonds will require someone who fits the bill. Tanya from the trailer park will not.
to 11:46 ... you are correct. yours is the only intelligent comment on this thread. dannys was treating those girls as EMPLOYEES, not independent contractors. thats how they got into hot water with the EEOC. when you treat people as employees you are on the hook for minimum wage and withholding. you dont have that with independent contrators who pay for the privilege of plying their trade in the club.
99% of the men on this thread making sexist remarks and bad mouthing dancers are married and frequent these clubs constantly. but , of course dont ever expect them to admit that.
So...there must be a bunch of white women who stand to collect millions from employers like KFC, Burger King, and Popeyes.
It's pretty obvious that they face a similar racial discrimination situation. Statistics alone would prove their case. No way are white women employed in proportion to their percent of the population.
You say white women are not applying? Well, those places need an Affirmative Action hiring plan and they need to offer white women whatever it takes to get them behind those cash registers.
