JPD issued the following statements.
(#1) Jackson Police are currently investigating an officer involved shooting.
It result from a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 3000 block Bienville
Dr shortly after 3:00am.
As the officer approached the vehicle, the passenger was exhibiting
suspicious behavior. That individual later produced a handgun,
pointing it at the officer. The officer then fired shots at the vehicle
just before the vehicle sped away.
The officer was not injured but was transported to an area hospital
for observation. It is unknown at this time if anyone in the suspect
vehicle was injured.
The vehicle being sought is a late model red Chevy Cruz bearing tag, RHE275 and was occupied by two white males.
Anyone who locates this vehicle or has information about its occupants is asked to contact Police.
(#2) Jackson Police have recovered the suspect vehicle after it was located in an area of south Jackson.
One individual has been detained and another is still being sought.
(#3) Jackson Police have confirmed that shots were fired at the Officer this morning during the traffic stop.
Also, the suspect believed to have fired those shots has been
identified as 20-year-old, Matthew Tate. Tate is approximately 5’11,
150lbs. He is wanted for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer.
Tate is still believed to be armed and remains at-large.
Anyone with information on Tate’s whereabouts is asked to contact Police. More charges and/or arrests are possible
(#4) Jackson Police has taken wanted person, Matthew Tate, into custody. Tate was located in the 500 block of Cooper Rd. in south Jackson after an Officer observed him walking in the area. He appeared to have sustained an injury to his head.

Tate is being transported for treatment of the unknown injury which, at this time, appears to be non life-threatening.

I'm sure that they were in the area looking for the Waffle House and just got lost. They are good boys and in no way were they up to "no good." He shot at the policeman because he was afraid it was somebody trying to 'jack him since he has such a desirable ride.
Both of these young men appear to be “gangasta” wantabes. Both are fortunate they aren’t dead. Meanwhile we will support their girlfriend s and children while they are in priding honing their skills.
The sad thing is y'all have no idea what led these boys to do this I personally do and thank God the cop and MY SON are alive
