Update (11:15 AM): Guess what just popped up in email? ;-)
The city of Jackson has not provided records about the repairs to the Eudora Welty library roof to this website even though the request was submitted six weeks ago.
JJ submitted the following public records request to the city on October 19:
Copy of roof warranty issued to Jackson for roofs of Eudora Welty and Willie Morris libraries since January 1, 2014. Please include roof repair work in this request.
The city asked for more time to comply with the request on Halloween Day but has yet to provide the records. JJ submitted another request on October 8:
Inspection reports of roof for Eudora Welty Library since January 1, 2014. Please include the inspection report made after roof repair (due to 2013 hailstorm) was completed. However, the city asked for more time to provide the records on October 19. Nearly six weeks have passed since the request was submitted yet the city has not provided a copy of the inspection reports for the Eudora Welty library roof repairs.
The city awarded a master contract to BBMK for the repair of 16 buildings that were damaged in the 2013 hailstorm. $700,000 was spent on fixing the roof. The Eudora Welty Library roof should not be leaking but leaking away it is. It is not unreasonable to expect the city to have a copy of the final inspection report and the warranties for the roofs.
What is just is disturbing is the City Council has shown no inclination to investigate why such shoddy repairs were made to the library and how was the money spent. JJ has already reported that there was one contractor involved who was convicted of fraud ten years ago. Who were the subcontractors? How was the money spent on the repairs? What services and goods were purchased? Did they actually repair the roof or did they bilk the city for an endless use of blue tarps and then repair the roof in half-ass fashion? Do any of the subcontractors have business relationships with any members of the City Council?
Part of the City Council's job is to perform oversight over the city government and hold departments accountable.
The City Council should do its job and investigate the hailstorm repairs.
Meanwhile, this website will continue to bury its teeth into the back of the city's neck until it provides the requested documents - if they actually exist.

When is the last time the Clarion-Ledger did investigations like this? Don't waste your time. Don't waste your money. Forget the Clarion-Ledger. Read Jackson Jambalaya.
And no, I don't know Kingfish. I've never met him. I don't even know his real name.
We already know you're going to find that:
1. The roof work has no warranty
2. The roofing repair was never inspected
The never-ending legacy of Tony Yarber and company.
The Clarion-Ledger is a joke. It's circling the drain like the rest of print media.
Don't be surprised if you have to file a complaint with the state Ethics Commission against them for violating state laws on public records requests. It wouldn't be the first time.
The clarion liar is a dying newpaper. It's safe to say print media nationwide is nearly obsolete. Liberal cartoon from Marshall Ramsey would be better suited for California or Seattle. I noticed he hasn't drawn one on AL Franken as of yet. Too busy drawing Ole Roy.
Ramsey crossed over the dark side.
Anyone else notice that Bryant's budget recommendation calls for cutting MPB by 25%! About damn time.
So, even in light of the number of people who are unemployed/underemployed in Jackson, the City felt it was the better part of wisdom to hire a roofing contractor out of Delray Beach, FL? Yeah, that decision CAN'T miss!
What are the chances that the roofing contractor from Delray Beach has condominium property on the beach and Yarber (with his troop of dancing girls) has frequented it several times?
I never could figure out myself why a Florida Roofing Company was allowed to perform the work while we have many credible roofing contractors in and around Jackson. There had to be a payoff and more than likely the person or persons who got some type of payoff are still working for the City and don't want their names exposed. Corruption, corruption, corruption! But then again, isn't this what the new mayor wants the city to be called? A Radical New City?
