Rankin-Madison County District Attorney Michael Guest issued the following press release:
Brandon Man Receives 55-Year Sentence for Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault,
Kidnapping, and Burglary
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Gary Raymond Mapp pled guilty and was sentenced to serve 55 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and burglary.
On June 17, 2015, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a man who had been attacked, handcuffed, chocked and held at gunpoint.
The victim told law enforcement that he was at his girlfriend’s house when he heard a knock on the door and saw a man standing outside wearing a ballistic vest with the words, “Hinds County Sherriff’s Office” in yellow on a patch on the front of the vest. He also noticed that Mapp was carrying a semi-automatic handgun. Mapp asked the victim to step outside of the home where he was then placed in handcuffs and told to lay on the ground.

The victim attempted to escape and ran outside where he was tackled by Mapp and held at gunpoint. The victim managed to escape once again by running through the woods to a neighbor’s house where law enforcement was called. Mapp then fled the residence after having stealing money and jewelry.
Law enforcement was advised that the house had a working camera system and had recorded much of what the victim had described. Law enforcement was able to identify Mapp as a possible suspect and the victim. Police learned from Mapp’s girlfriend that he had been in the house previously and that he had a law enforcement-style ballistic vest and handguns inside of his residence. The woman was shown a picture of Mapp obtained from the video and she quickly identified him. She also identified Mapp’s truck. In addition, the victim selected Mapp’s picture from a photo lineup.
Mapp’s truck was located in front of a Jackson hotel. Law enforcement entered the room that Mapp had rented and found where Mapp had cut a hole into the wall which allowed him to enter an adjacent room where he was found and arrested. The stolen jewelry and money were found in the hotel room along with a handgun.
Guest stated, “Mapp is a dangerous individual who went through a great deal of planning and preparation to commit this violent crime. If Mapp had not been arrested I am confident that there would have been additional victims that Mapp would have preyed upon.”
Guest added, “This case is especially troubling because Mapp portrayed himself as a law enforcement officer to gain entry into the home. Once inside he detained, assaulted, and robbed an innocent man. If the victim had not fled the home and escaped to a neighbor’s house the outcome may have been much worse. Mapp is a violent and dangerous person and I am very thankful to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office for the outstanding job they did to put this criminal behind bars for decades to come.”
District Attorney Michael Guest was sworn into office in January 2008 and represents the Twentieth Judicial District, Madison and Rankin Counties. For more information regarding the District Attorney’s office, please visit www.daguest.com.

Kingfish your notes make are the definition of Jackassery and thank you. I laugh my way through all the time.
Arrest to sentencing in less than 8 months. But let's not talk about the incompetence of Shuler Smith.
Looks mixed to me.
7 1/2 months from the crime to the sentencing. Nice work, Rankin County!
I agree. He's white-ISH: some sort of a mix.
I rounded off.
Good job Rankin S.O. and Michael Guest. One less thug to have to deal with.
"Looks mixed to me. "
Nah, just bad lighting. Pure white trash. He'll enjoy the slammer.
Mixed or not . . .
His mouth is purrdy.
Sure hope he isn't like my neighbor. He was sentenced to 30 years. Had to spend nearly 3 months in jail.

Live in ward 3?
4:27, No, I live in Rankin County.
From what the neighbor tells me he has a sheriff deputy as a friend and customer. He always knows when a bust is going to happen.
