The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following press release from the Clarksdale Police Department:


•On 02/15/2016, on 02/15/2016, The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and The Clarksdale Police Department have charged Johnny Robinson Jr., a 19 year-old male with two counts of Armed Robbery and one count of Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer (Cpl. Derrick Couch).

The first Armed Robbery occurred on 10/27/2015 at The Corner Grocery located in the first block of First Street. The second Armed Robbery also occurred at The Corner Grocery on 02/15/2016. The Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer occurred in the 100 Block of Leflore Street on 02/15/2016 after the Armed Robbery of The Corner Grocery. The Clarksdale Police Department is still working to positively identify the second suspect in the Armed Robbery of the second Armed Robbery. At this time it is believed that Robinson was the only suspect involved in shooting of Cpl. Derrick Couch. Bond was set at $700,000.00 for all three charges. Update as to that bond and any court proceedings will be made at a later time when the information becomes available.

There were a lot of very dedicated men and women who have assisted us in getting to this point in our investigation and words cannot express our appreciation. The Clarksdale Police Department also thanks the citizens and other Law Enforcement Agencies from all over our Great Country who have called and expressed their concern for Cpl. Couch and The Clarksdale Police Department.
