Gang initiation?

Nothing that a taxpayer-funded and taxpayer-backstopped Convention Center Hotel can't fix. All the violence and crime is the result of pent up demand to get downtown, eat downtown, party downtown, live downtown and booze it up downtown.

The thug culture is celebrated in the "community" and there are no consequences for this behavior. We have a moral breakdown and nothing is on the horizon to reverse it. Has anybody thought about a study? And while that is ongoing the preachers can come together and wail and moan and tell their congregations that prayer is the solution. Nope. The answer is swift and tough punishment. And that ain't gonna happen.

Prayers for this poor man, for comfort for his wife, family, friends and neighbors, and for the murderer to be quickly captured and removed permanently from society.

As a person of a certain age who sometimes works in his front yard, I would be in favor of bringing back public execution for this one.

This is a tragedy for this wonderful citizen's family, and for the neighborhood. God grant that it becomes a tragedy for this perp also. What a waste of a good man's last years and for the life of a young person who now has lost all hope of a good future.

I am outraged as this behavior continues regardless of who is to blame... We all know we have gangs in Jackson who distribute drugs and who corrupt the young children in their neighborhoods. Get all gang symbols out of schools. Forbid any gang activity or affiliation in Schools. Preachers please talk openly about this problem and about the fact of sin in life and how it effects eternal life.

He appears to be black or mixed (as they say) on the TV news. Maybe that's why it's not a hate crime. Some will suggest the perps might be white boys from Madison. That's a popular theory these days.

A major part of the problem - parents. Parents not just refusing to accept their kid did something wrong and to parent accordingly, but defending them when they do something like this. Like the ones recently taking issue with the DA & Yarber calling them out about their 17 yr son & another kid committing a string of armed robberies in Jackson. They somewhat acknowledged their son did, in fact, commit the alleged crimes, but also literally said "he did not do this"(obvious direct contradiction. He DID), and was "just caught up" with the wrong new friend. But their main point was that they were angry about being called out. Not a word about the victims, that armed robbery is wrong, etc. That sentiment permeates our culture. I unfortunately do not see a solution. Happens in other communities too. Guess its easier to blame someone else. Never being taught you were in the wrong, or wronged someone, growing up creates a scary lack of empathy.

This man, at age 85, was doing what too many Jackson residents are not.... working. He was working in his yard and robbed by a thug who likely has never worked a day in his life.

This is about as horrible as it gets, but since the victim was white, it will not be reported as such. A cold blooded, senseless killing of an ELDERLY man.

Has there ever been an African American prosecuted under the hate crime penalties?? If not, what are the chances that there has never been a hate crime against a Caucasian by an African American ?? Slim to none. The hate crimes were set up to punish Caucasians only which make the hate crime statutes racist.

4:37, if there has ever been a black prosecuted for a hate crime I don't know of it. There have been many chances but it would be racist to do that. Everyone is scared of being called a racist. Even to the point of ignoring crimes.
