Tate Reeves against a commons sense idea that has broad public support...sounds familiar.

Early voting by depositing the ballot in a secure container at the court house is very safe and reliable; US mail...not so much.

Tater needs to "think outside the box."

There should be no early voting of any type for any reason. Period. If you can't make it to the polls on election day - tough. If voting is that important to you, you will find a way, make a way. I'm tired of all these wimpy, crybaby reasons for needing to vote at a time other than election day. We are on the fast track to voting on cell phones, and when that happens we will deserve what we get - invalid results.

if you are over 65 you can absentee vote for any reason.

If you are going to be "out of the county on Election Day" you can vote absentee. Which means you can plan to cross over to Hinds, Madison or Rankin Counties on the interstate and you will be "out of the county on election day."

I propose internet voting. Each voter would have a unique identifying number and could log onto a website/app ran by the SOS office that would direct them to their digital precinct.

I would never even think of such a thing in normal times, but the pandemic has us all thinking out of the box. But, hey! Look at the bright side. B.S. could shake us down for an over inflated lucrative government contract several times over. Talk about a poll tax.

I do understand everything you're saying. And I agree.
My Mom lived to age 95 and insisisted upon voting until she was 94.

I have many disagreements with Governor Reeves myself.
Tate is a lot of things, but an "idiot" is not one of them.
IMO Tate's only trying to reduce voter fraud.

If both parties would act like adults, (this issue you are rightfully upset about) . . . could be solved at a lunch at the Mayflower or a few drinks at the Sun n' Sand.

Why does Mississippi have such a hard time with progressing and moving forward? Imagine living in Wisconsin or Minnesota and having to stand in a line to vote; you'd freeze to death.

When we start to elect younger politicians, surely we will move into the 21st century. It's 2020, and we're still standing in a freaking line to vote. I don't stand in line at the bank; I do all my banking electronically.

My kid just tested positive. Now my whole family has to quarantine for the next 2 weeks. The kids, my wife and I have to be at home for 14 days and our income will be way down. Who gives a sh#t about mail-in voting? Asking for a friend. #everydaymississippians

Early voting makes too much sense for this state.

Tate was wrong on medical marijuana and is wrong on early voting. The MS Legislature can either address early voting or Mississippians will address it with an initiative.

The Constitution does not designate a specific day for holding elections. However, it says states can choose the “Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives,” subject to the right of Congress to “make or alter” those state rules. In 1845, the 28th Congress set “the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November” as the date for states to appoint presidential electors.

In 1872, the 42nd Congress aligned House elections with presidential elections by scheduling them for “the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November” starting in 1876 and “in every second year thereafter.” In 1914, the 63rd Congress aligned popular election of Senators with the biennial House elections.

So why then are courts allowing states to hold elections on any day (or even multiple days) other than the one designated by Congress?

I’m with Tate on this one. Avoid the crap show happening in other states as we speak.

It is the most important civic duty that citizens have. It should be treated as such and any effort to simplify it to the point that it is too easy to vote, meaning log in our your iPhone and cast vote, it will be ripe for fraud. It should be intentional and an effort put into casting your ballot. Exceptions should be made for sick or those that will be out of town.

If the one thing that can be discerned by this election is that the media is a farce and they are as guilty as OJ Simpson, yet they get a pass. I don't trust any of them; NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox or MSNBC. They are all whores.

If your elections have a sense of impropriety then there is NO confidence, and if there is no confidence, there will be no peace.

For the sake of any candidate Republican or democrat; they should be able to run a race, put all they have into their campaign and expect a fair result.

If you stood in line for three hours Tuesday, you'd not be calling people snowflakes who don't want to repeat that madness.

Not all playing fields are level, Secretary Watson. Consider a dirt-bike venue, or a corn-hole platform (Gawd, I wish they'd call them something else), or even a mumbly-peg area.

I'm not in favor of mail-in voting like the sort we are seeing in some states. However, I have to believe we have the technology in 2020 to come up with a reasonable and secure way for people to vote other than by standing in long lines on a single day.

We file tax returns by mail and electronically. And that involves billions of dollars. A better way to do elections exists if the politicians would let competent people come up with a solution.

A few posts by ole Tate came up on my social media feed over the last couple of weeks. He is simply getting some terrible advice. He needs to do a Joe Biden for about 6 months and just disappear and stay off of social media. That's his best path to re-election.

There are several simple ways to make it easier to vote with the system we have. For starters, you could make the absentee application (not the ballot of course) available to download online to mail in to your circuit clerk, rather than requiring it be mailed to you. You could also just require a witness signature (or 2), rather than requiring a notary for said application. No other state in America requires you to get a notary twice to vote by mail.

You right the legislators better address early voting. Are it will be on the ballot and it will pass. Heck we may not need a legislative body in 10 years. The days of a governor saying I am against or we will study it are OVER!

I challenge those of you who oppose voting by mail to identify just one race anywhere in the country is which the results were changed by fraudulent voting by mail.

Tate Reeves put it on the ballot Governor, won’t make the hard decisions. Just let the people decide.

@10:00 pm - How are the other states a crap show when GA, PA, and AZ all have well into the 90's of precincts reporting? Because it is a close election in those states? Mississippi is only reporting 84% of precincts thus far. It is easy to declare Mississippi for Trump since anything that has an R next to it will win, no matter their actual political beliefs. We are the only state that required in person voting with few exceptions and no early voting, yet we still have one of the lowest vote reporting percentages in the country. Not that there is anything wrong with taking the time to make sure all the votes are counted, but early/mail in voting doesn't seem to have slowed down those states compared to us.

That's okay, Tater. We are already discussing a ballot initiative for early voting. See you next November.

You do all your banking electronically because others (the bank) are willing to eat the cost of fraud. If any money comes up missing, the bank refunds it to the customer. Period. No exceptions. Within 3 days. THe bank is willing to accept some amount of fraud as the cost of business.

So ... everyone wants to disenfranchise our military and embassy personnel serving overseas whose absentee ballots rely on overseas mail?
You want to disenfranchise veterans in nursing homes or too disabled to stand in line or find anyone to get them to their precinct?
We have never , ever had a final vote count on Election Day.
We have only had projections based on math.
You want federal voting rules instead of State laws and rules? Really?
Unless you are legally registered, your ballot doesn’t count.
Has fraud occurred? Rarely and when challenged, those folks pay the piper.

NV, GA, PA, MI, WI this year. Probably others, but the democrats were so far ahead that it doesn't matter.

Does it really matter Georgia just turn Blue. In 2022 Republicans have more seats to defend including one in Georgia if they win the run off.

The U.S. Mail has an official status with all Courts in the United States. You can be served with official process through certified mail and have serious judgments entered against you. You also rely on the mailing date for very serious tax returns which can possibly ruin your life. The U.S. mail is taken seriously for many things but not for delivering a ballot? Until Mr. Trump got scared of losing this was not a big issue. Set a reasonable deadline date but let people vote by mail if they want.

There is no valid argument against early in-person voting for one week prior to Election Day. It is secure, expands access, and prevents us from having to stand in long lines. Against the expansion of voting by mail, but there is no excuse not to have early in-person voting like Florida and Texas have successfully implemented. Proud of Republicans like Michael Watson, Kent McCarty, and Jansen Owen for speaking up on this common sense issue.

In these times of 'Cancel Culture', will Georgia Blue be changing its name?

The only 'base' Tater has is his immediate family (only two can vote), the three in the legislature who he didn't piss off, the new MDOC Commish and a neighbor down the street who brings him tomatoes.

The Republican party is just going to have to get with the program when it comes to rounding up low information folks and taking them to the polls. They hate mail in, absentee, etc. because the Dems are masters of picking up folks who are wandering around unaware that there's even an election taking place and exchanging a half pint for a quick trip to the Courthouse. Republicans are just going to have to get off their asses and maybe buy better whiskey.

What I would like to see is polls opened up for a week and have everybody come in at their convenience with identification to ensure the security of the election. Obviously there would need to be some accommodations made for out-of-state military members and the truly homebound people, but that is not insurmountable.

Every vote should count, but we also need to ensure it is the actual person making the choices and not a relative or activist filling it out for a dementia patient and just getting them to sign it.

How many on here have actually been a poll worker, poll watcher, or observed the counting of absentee ballots. Some of you have no clue about the vote counting and certification process.

The dirty secret of the GOP is they know that expanding the number of people who vote will eliminate their party. The fraud claims are nothing more than a sad lie to give their base some cover.
