The Mississippi State Medical Association and Mississippi State Department of Health are having a bit of a row with Mississippi private schools over the reporting of Covid-19 cases.
The Health Department ordered private schools to report Covid-19 infections to the agency. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said yesterday some private schools reported directly to the Health Department while others were sending it to the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. However, MAIS refuses to report cases to the state. It tweeted yesterday:
Dr. Jennifer Bryan took issue with the private schools. She tweeted:
Well this seems short-sighted. The path to keeping schools and businesses open is to trust the advice of our public health experts. #MSMACares
She is the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees for the Mississippi State Medical Association.
We probably have not heard the last of this little molehill controversy. Stay tuned.

Dr. Fauci said today the pandemic wont last much longer due to vaccines...right after November 4th like so many of us guessed. #whodathunkit
Everyone must remember (sarcasm coming): The Government is our friend, they are here to help us, and they know what's best for us.
The private school my children go to lists the number of cases by grade on their password protected website. All those cases have been reported to the state by the entity performing the test. They just haven't reported the school that person attends. Should they? I haven't decided. All I care about at this point is that my school is transparent to the parents regardinghow many cases have been reported to the school. I can then decide if I want my child to personally attend classes or attend online. These cases are reported by the parents to the school. I know of no parent that has neglected to report positive cases to our school.
It is awfully funny that this release comes out just prior to the semi-final round of the MAIS 6A football playoffs. If one were to take a close look, they might just see that one of the participating schools has gone to distance learning in their high school due to an outbreak. Yet they are still apparently planning to play football on Friday night. Make sure you get that game in and don't take a chance on losing that gate money!
Players don't get it on the field.
Whatever happened to the huge amount of cases the left was predicting when shools reopened? Just like everything else, a big nothing burger.
Blah blah blah! Leave the kids alone.
This story has gone viral.
Not sure how certain doctors practice medicine since they spend all their time on social media.
Trust the state, yeah right.
@11:26 - school openings were a huge risk that has gone much better than most expected, but we are still seeing record numbers of cases nearly every day. As a country, we are doing horribly at containing this thing and until a vaccine is widely available, we will continue seeing record cases if the nothingburger denial attitude continues.
Told you all along schools would do ok although with some serious bumps in the road.
11:52 nails the comment of the week.
Same for lawyers.

You and all of your kind are COMPLETE IDIOTS! This virus has nothing to do with the election. Accept it and move on. I'll bet you refuse to wear a mask too.
As a parent whose child goes to a local private school, I'm very pleased with how our school is handling covid. And no, it's not Prep, JA, St. Andrew's, etc.
Private schools are telling parents of cases. They are sending data to MAIS. They're just aren't reporting it to the world on a school by school basis. If a parent is unhappy with that, they can always send their kids to public school or shop for a different private school. It's this weird thing called a market.
About 3,500 of 3,000,000 Mississippians purportedly have died from Covid, which is just over 0.001%. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
I had to listen to Supertalk this morning.
I love Rebecca Turner and the Sports guys, and I normally don't tune in until 2:00 PM.
But my gawd . . . how Davenport selected this Dave Hughes guy as the replacement for JT is beyond me.
I disagree with JT sometimes, ( and I really I hope he makes a full recovery from his medical issues).
But Dave Hughes is like a male version of a "Karen" on a case of energy drinks.
I digress.
Today Hughes' guest was the prez of the State Medical Association.
This doctor painted a (two week) picture of the entire country looking like Europe at the height of the Bubonic plague.
Kudos to the MAIS. I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you @ 4:27pm. You’re the perfect example of why we’re dead last in all good measures and killing it on the Covid charts. You failed to carry the decimal 2 places in your percentage calculation. 3,500 is 0.11% of 3,000,000. A little over one tenth of one percent of Mississippians have died so far from this virus. But your calculation assumes that all 3 million Mississippians have contracted it. Only 130,000 positive cases have been reported so far. 3,500 is 2.7% of 130,000. 2.7% of 3 million is 81,000. You okay with killing 77,500 more Mississippians so you can go without your face diaper and have a drink at the bar? I would wager to guess you still would be.
Actually, 3,500 divided by 3,000,000 is 1.6666... somewhat high, even for the fattest and sickest state in the US, where death rates are EXPECTED to be high.
However, once we recognize that the number of Covid-19 deaths has been purposely inflated (exactly HOW inflated, we'll probably never know), the numbers don't look so bad.
8:33, according to the CDC 7,944 Mississippians died of heart disease in 2017. Given that Covid is about half that number, perhaps you're focused on the wrong cause.
@11:31pm - Heart disease isn’t an airborne virus. False equivalency may make you feel smart, but it actually proves the opposite.
@10:29pm - Once again proving why Mississippi is last in everything, including math.
