Dr. Woodward Calls for Statewide Mask Mandate

"Everything is going in the wrong direction."

UMC Vice-Chancellor Dr. LouAnn Woodward said the Covid-19 crisis in Mississippi was the worst it has ever been as she advocated implementing a statewide mask mandate.  She said the hospital system has no more capacity and the state is quickly approaching a hospital crisis.  Watch her remarks in the video posted below.

After nearly a year of this it’s hollow warnings and pleas. People are sick of being told we’re going to get sick. Maybe go ask Gov Tater Tot why he let the fair open and removed the statewide mask mandate. I’m told I can’t be with my family at thanksgiving but college kids can wrestle and slobber over each other during a football game? Sorry but I’m living my life.

And the survival rate is still greater than 99%.

Off topic, but are we to believe there was not a single shooting in Jackson over the weekend?

Someone is masking the truth, which will go viral.

Doesn't really matter if there's a mandate. Spoiled brats like 4:19 will do what they want, when they want.

@4:19pm - It’s fine. You do you. Actions don’t have consequences.

Anonymous said...

@4:19 here's a thought experiment, since the virus has a two week transmission period, let's say that everyone actually had stayed home last March and April for a complete month in the US. We would have shut down the virus months ago. All the economic outcomes would have been close to recovery by now. @4:19 perfectly demonstrates why that would never work. After all, @4:19 is "living my life." A bunch of spoiled brats indeed.

All of this is bull shit to take control of the Middle Class. This is part of Reset.

Meanwhile, I can only hope that the Junior League had a wonderful time at the Mistletoe Gala with the other 3,000 attendees inside the Trademart.

Hell no. How about we drop the Certificate of Need laws and then I will take you seriously. Don’t cry hospital capacity while you still actively work to constrain capacity to protect the medics cabal in this state. We’ve already done masks and they didn’t work. More places are masked up now than ever before and there are more cases. The terms “lockdown”, “mandate” and universal masking as policy don’t exist in any pandemic plan anywhere in this country. Where did these policies come from? We had learned that masks as public policy don’t work from the Spanish Flu and had a national policy that reflected that based on experience and dozens of studies. Now we have major studies saying the same thing form COVID but somehow masks have become complete dogma.

Finally, common sense is spoken and real leadership taken by someone, because Tate sure isn’t capable of taking any no matter how bad the pandemic gets. The virus doesn’t know county lines so Tate’s chicken shit, piecemeal approach will never bring down the pandemic the way a Statewide mask mandate will. I’d vote for Lou Ann for Governor if she ever wants the job. As for the Tate.,,,,never again!

We happen to live in one of the most unhealthy states in the nation. We have a ripe population for this virus. Instead of focusing on the importance of staying healthy we’ve done the opposite during this pandemic. Lowered access to preventative care. Closed gyms. Crushed businesses. Economic stress = lots of other bad habits certainly doesn’t improve the situation much (depression, drugs, alcohol, etc.).

Crying wolf doesn’t help. UMMC has had over six months to prepare for the second surge. We all knew it was coming. It’s flu season. The colleges are closing down early this semester to keep the spread down on campuses. Makes sense. Today the UMMC leadership complains they can’t manage. It’s sad state of affairs. No pun attended. I feel for the frontline caregivers. Not enough of them and many are beyond exhausted,

No simple answers to complex problems. People should use common sense. Have zero trust in any leadership on this virus (that’s what the nurse told me, “it’s just a virus. It will run its course.” OK.) coming out of Jackson much less UMMC. Or many of the healthcare providers for that matter. They are all over the board in their approach in treatment. God help us all get through these next few months.

They should have listened to Kingfish and built pop up "covid-only hospitals". A Confederacy of Dunces once again.

@5:43 Your comments might have some validity except for the fact that both the politicians and the medical community made "exceptions" to everything you have stated. If the medical community cannot get on board with a "total lockdown", common sense tells you that is not the answer.

Anonymous said...

If we could somehow remove all the folks infected with idiotvirus, we’d be done with this pandemic in no time. Unfortunately, that would leave Mississippi with about 10% of its population left.

Anonymous said...

@5:43 you obviously have never taken a virology class and know nothing about viruses. If only it was that simple, life would be so easy.

Greenville has a handle on it. There, you will now be required to sign an 'attestation form' if caught without a mask on your face. That form, once signed, is your promise to not violate again. And if you don't sign it, you are jail-cell-bound. This, from the same city that gave $500 tickets to people who attended drive-up worship services six months ago.

Fortunately I am removing from this horrible virus. My husband still has double pneumonia but expecting to recover. Mask prevent you from GIVING the droplets of this virus! It will not prevent you from getting it. Some of you will still touch your face with unclean hands. I was sceptic before but being asymptotic I understand now, you can have this and no symptoms!! It is a killer to the weak and highly contagious to all. Please take off the dunce hat, no one wants your freedom, no one wants your guns, no one wants really to give a damn about you but once you are sick you will beg for treatment IF you want to breath!!! Now, there is the rub, BREATHING!!!! Mask up because it will slow the spread.

I did stay home in March and April. Did not encounter another human (as I live alone) for actually almost 3 months including May. Worked from home and had any supplies I needed delivered. Did not even crank my car.

So 5:43...I am no longer interested in lock downs. They did not work and they will never work and you just said it yourself.

There is no scenario that includes total compliance so just give it up and let us all make our own choices.

Stay home or don't.

But stop asking the absolute morons in government to save you.

Anonymous said...

The only thing funnier than the infighting here, are all the handwringers telling us that masks will save lives and stop the spread of the airborne virus. Sorry, but the science doesn’t support it. Nor does common sense experiments with masks that indicate how much vapor is exhaled in a breath.

https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-6817

Conclusion:

The recommendation to wear surgical masks to supplement other public health measures did not reduce the SARS-CoV-2 infection rate among wearers by more than 50% in a community with modest infection rates, some degree of social distancing, and uncommon general mask use. The data were compatible with lesser degrees of self-protection.

She’s cute. She’s pretty. So what’s not to like. Nothing as far as I’m concerned. If she says wear a mask I’ll be happy to wear a mask.

Japan with 133 million has had less death and cases of Covid-19 than 3 million Mississippi. How is that possible? Taiwan? New Zealand?

Perhaps we would be wise to see the winning strategies in these countries and choose one for here. (Spoiler alert- not all of those countries did a “lockdown” of any sort..)

The USA had no coordinated effort. Also- what efforts we did have (flatten the curve, mask, distance) are basically ignored by half the population.

No wonder the USA isn’t #1 in the world anymore. We are too focused on ourselves to give two craps about the common good.

Hey 5:43 - where would you get your food? Who would keep your water coming to your house or the poo going away from your house? Who would send you electricity so you could post nonsense? Who would work the hospitals, the police stations, the fire stations, and the prisons? Who the crap do you think does actual important work in the world? Work that can't be "shut down" for an entire month? You sound like all those politicians who mandate rules on us but are caught red handed flaunting their own rules. Good for thee, not for me right?

Good news for Democrats and pantywaist liberals, more stupid ass voters being trained in Virginia.

WAPO:
A ‘trend of more failing’: Online school has sent F’s spiking by 83 percent in Virginia’s largest school system

The pattern was pervasive across all student groups, grade levels, and content areas,” says the Fairfax study, published online this week. “The trend of more failing marks is concerning across the board but is especially concerning for the groups that showed the biggest unpredicted increases ... namely our English learner students and students with disabilities.”

8:27am good job halfway reading the Danish mask study. You should have kept reading, to wit:

Limitation:
Inconclusive results, missing data, variable adherence, patient-reported findings on home tests, no blinding, and no assessment of whether masks could decrease disease transmission from mask wearers to others.

Sounds air tight, right? (Pun intended)

@10:52am I totally agree with you. Here is my solutions to the lies.

- follow your feelings, not science. We all know that what we feel to be true IS true.
- the government never helps. That's why I REFUSE to drive on public roads and accept protection from the military. When China attacks, I'll fight them off with my concealed weapon of choice.
- if I were Trump, I would make taxes a big fat zero. He'll figure out to keep everything running.
- yes, let's get rid of welfare, especially for orphans, the elderly, and the indigent. Bunch of slackers.
- I wish people like @10:52am were mayor. He is obviously smarter than Mr Lumumba.
- I totally agree that Dr Fauci is not an expert. Clearly he hasn't read all the links in the comments on JJ about how masks don't work and the vaccine has a microchip. Don't talk to me about expertise until you've read those excellent resources.
- Both Mr Biden and Mr Trump are of excellent minds.
- Mrs Harris... I got nothing. Maybe she is a Marxist.

@ 8:27am

"good job halfway reading the Danish mask study. You should have kept reading, to wit:"

The Danish study, long awaited, is the best (RCT - Fauci's 'gold standard') and latest example of what has been part of our planned public response to a possible pandemic - that mask mandates don't work. That's why you heard so many 'experts' demanding that people should not wear masks at the beginning of this hoax.

If you disagree with this example, please provide any compelling evidence to the contrary that cloth masks, worn haphazardly around the chin while being constantly adjusted and touched, will prevent an airborne virus.

Masks don't work. I wish they did. Lockdowns don't work. Both carry consequences, and some of those are more dire than a 250K (you belive that number?) people dying.

Churches are closed and strip clubs are open? This is not about public health and has never been.

How about the doctors start prescribing medicine for those who test positive for the virus. Several friends have tested positive and all they got was a text informing them of their positive test. Telling them to quarantine at home and if they start having trouble breathing to call an ambulance. The doctor refused to see them or prescribe any medicine. These doctors need to be held liable for this malpractice.

Dr. Christine Laine, an internal medicine physician and Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Internal Medicine, says that the study did a good job of answering a very specific question: whether or not face masks protect wearers from SARS-CoV-2 infection in areas with LOW infection rates and HIGH levels of social distancing. "It did not answer the question about whether widespread masking mitigates SARS-CoV-2 infection."

Read that Cletus.

Now, read this, and tell us what it says and doesn't say: "This is a true statement- Without a doubt, the biggest arseholes in ( fill in the blank - Mississippi) go to the University of (-Mississippi)."

Note that it doesn't say other schools don't have arseholes, or that everybody at Ole Piss is an arsehole. It doesn't say that other states don't have arseholes. Just that the biggest arseholes in Land Grant states go to the "Fagship" school, instead of private, more selective, or top national colleges.

Then go back to the first paragraph and tell us again what this limited study, from March, in a nation that now has HUGE rates, but at the time was low in infection rate and high in social distancing, means. In a country with HIGH infection rates and low social distancing.

Think hard, Cletus. Or, well, ask for help.

For help, here's the Lead Study Author's words of advice: "Even a small degree of protection is worth using the face masks,” says Dr. Henning Bundgaard, professor of Cardiology at Rigshospitalet in Denmark and lead author of the study, “because you are protecting yourself against a potentially life-threatening disease." Wear a Mask.

11:21 am: Jackson ain’t no coward. Do you wear seatbelts despite the State government telling you to? Do you follow the State of MS posted speed limits or have a problem with that? Some asymptomatic people are varying the virus unknown to themselves or others. Why shouldn’t our Gubmint protect us all to stem a parabolic rise in infection? Don’t call people cowards you don’t know. Keep your insults to yoself son.

Anonymous said...

@Jacksun, I’m calling YOU, Jacksun, a coward . YOU beg for masks and lockdowns because YOU get that government check every month, don’t you boomer? Seatbelt laws are insane, they protect only the driver who chose to wear, or not wear one, this is America, you anti-freedom dolt. Speed limits are equally insane, at least on open interstate, since modern cars can safely and comfortably operate at 15-20+ OVER what the state has randomly decided to post. Asymptomatic people are NOT spreading this virus, according to the CDC themselves and NO, NO, the government shouldn’t protect us from ANYTHING other than communism. We are adults, quit begging your daddy to save you, especially from a virus that has a 99%+ survival rate, even amongst the most vulnerable and especially since world “leaders” are openly saying they are using this to crack down on individual liberty. They said it. They are on video across the world saying it. Boris Johnson, Klaus Schwab, Joe Biden. Sack up and STOP being a part of the problem. Goddamn.

Anonymous said...

Y'all!!! I just read @6:27pm post. I am so in awe of such an extraordinary Mississippian. Never wears a seatbelt! Never drives on public roads, never needs or expects police protection, never needs protection from criminals locked up in jails, drives above the speed limit AT WILL!!! On top of that @6:27pm has such an amazing insight on the virus. Knows who is and is not spreading this virus. I wish Mr Trump would FIRE Dr Fauci and make @6:27pm the virus supremo! @6:27pm is definitely part of the solution, not the problem in any way. How can such an exalted intellect and non-government dependent person possibly be part of the problem?

Anonymous said...

@7:58PM, Did you read anything I wrote? NO, I don’t agree with seatbelt laws as they affect nobody but the buckler. I drive on public roads because I paid for them through the extortion the state puts upon us, even though privately owned toll-roads would do just as well, if not better because they have a financial interest in actually maintaining them, vs spending their budget for the year by moving a road 12” to the right in order to project the same funding next year. Grown men don’t need police protection from police nor protection from criminals, be they in jail or not. The CD motherfuckin C themselves said asymptomatic people DONT spread the virus. YES he should fire and JAIL Fauci, he made sure the CDC well funded the Wuhan lab, where Dr. Charles Lieber of Harvard University worked on the nanotechnology side of this virus (before it “existed”) and was subsequently arrested by the FBI for his undeclared involvement with it which he lied about. While multiple world leaders and unenlected tyrants in Europe (the WEF and the UN) openly say they are going to use this outbreak as an excuse to take total control of us peons lives, you refuse to acknowledge that. And just because YOU are dependent on the government, doesn’t mean everyone is, you non-sentient slave.

Anonymous said...

@11:09 yea man! You tell'em! You and me, we're real Americans. In fact, we don't even need America! Don't need no stupid American police! Yes! Defund the police that just protect peon, non-sentient slaves! I'm certainly not dependent on any police or military or anything. Let those unelected tyrants in Europe even try to get me and you! You and I, we can TAKE them! And we'll drive on our private roads, too! When we get the 'rona, we'll go to our own PRIVATE hospitals! Heck, we'll just take our big MANLY guns and just SHOOT the virus. All these pitiful, non-sentient peon slaves, they just ain't like you and me. It is SO amazing to be so exalted and sentient like you and me, isn't it?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
