Covid-19 Cases Surge

The daily reported number of new Wuhan flu cases surged to 1,612 yesterday.  The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 8 new deaths as well. The total number of cases is 123,887. The virus has caused 3,405 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 105,839 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt value is 0.83.

While the cases surge, it appears deaths are not matching the surge in new cases - for now. Hopefully that is because we are using better treatments and therapies.  Only time will tell.

The big chart doesn't contain much good news.

Funny, I thought it was supposed to be over after Tuesday? It’s almost like the right is living in a fantasy world where the only limit is their imagination.

Y'all told me this would go away after the election!

The election is not over

Fake numbers made up by doctors trying to get COVID bonuses, right? I'm sure the almost 600 in the hospital with COVID all would be there anyway because of something else.

Sorry people, but this is real and is going to get worse through the holidays. Way too many will still have their annual extended family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas and bring it back into their communities.

It will only go away if Biden wins.

It's a hoax. It's a "conspiracy" to get more Govt funds. It's going to disappear, magically. It's Fauci's fault. It's "too much testing." It's,,,, uhhhhhh, real.

And the Covidiots have us at 3rd in the nation. Bubba ain't a gonner wear no mask!!! He ain't a gonner let no Commuh-nist keep Lil Bubba from playin' fewtbawl. It's a Constitutional right!!!!

No free ICU beds, but gosh darn it, we got FreeDumb!!!

Full blown idiocracy. Should’ve never been politicized.

Yup, the end of mankind is right around the corner. Jacksun will get all the ghosts he wants or needs for arguments.

No idiots the disease itself wasn't gonna be over after the election. It was the way it was covered would be over. The daily death count. The daily blaming of Trump and other smear jobs. I guess the huge spikes in Europe and around the world are because they went to the Mississippi State Fair and went Christmas shopping. Kingfish you got some weird ass liberals that follow you.

Just go shopping at Mistletoe Marketplace this weekend and relax. I'm sure no carriers will be there.

@12:33 - thanks for trying to move the goal post to fit your conspiracies. I’m glad you can agree that the idiots on the right saying it was a hoax that would be over with on Election Day are officially morons who are now proven wrong. Very big of you to admit that. And now that the election is over, the media isn’t going to report the record number of cases like they did today any longer. Oops, they did report the record number of cases today. I guess you’ll have to try and move the goal posts a little further. Any other conspiracies you’d like to put out there while you are on a roll?

Biden's plan to eradicate the virus is brilliant - just "follow the science." If only Trump and every other country would have done that, we would be free of Covid. Not sure I know what "the science" is though - no one ever seems to explain how scientists have the secret remedy but haven't shared it with any government on earth.

The testing is a sham or problematic. Two family members had appointments setup for the free testing in Jackson at the Farmers Market location on Woodrow Wilson. They decided they wanted to just go to the local urgent care type place for the testing instead. There was no way to cancel the appointment, so they did not show up. One of them gets an email with a positive test back from UMC, and the other has not received anything, which should be the case, although neither showed up to testing site at the Farmers Market. How did that happen? Somebody is positive and possibly doesn't know it or they will have to get another test if they are feeling like crap. The results from the local urgent care place came back negative for my family members.

This looks like UMC is dropping the ball on the testing, and they are extremely sloppy.

The hoax is the media overreaction and constant hyping of a virus that has a survival rate of 98.5% or thereabouts. Those who have underlying illness or conditions that make them vulnerable to covid are at risk. At risk of covid or any other virus - cold or flu. That's always been true and always will.

In spite of a vaccine, we still see 40,000 die of the flu each year, particularly among the vulnerable. We deal with it. We try to protect the vulnerable. We don't lock the entire population down over it.

I have to think the liberals here know this, and that they are still trying to cast blame. Virus is gonna virus folks. Regardless of 'the science'.

@12:49. Make a smart comment about Mistletoe Marketplace at your own peril. Nobody wants to be on their enemy list. The seriousness with which that event is taken is no joke.

World War II had a 99.7% survival rate for the US.

And NO ONE like you was allowed to post anti American drivel minimizing our losses. No one was allowed to minimize the millions suffering even if they did survive. And certainly no one was allowed to ENCOURAGE more death and suffering for personal or political gain.

In that age, folks cooperated, used common sense, and sidelined 4F Bubbas who were more worried about personal profit than their fellow Americans. Usually, permanently. They followed rules. They pitched in, not bitched incessantly.

And the conspiracy nuts usually enjoyed a rubber room, instead of posting psycho stuff from Facebook on here all day in the "modern" world.

And they didn't think it was cute to post that, "Hey, Mrs. Gold Star, what are you complaining about? We've only lost 400,000, so why are you weaklings complaining? I lost a lot of business! Was is gonna war, folks. Get over it. Let's get back to personal profit!"

Whatever happened to the "two weeks to flatten the curve" mantra that we kept hearing in March and April?

Anonymous said...

I like it, I'm invested in Funeral Homes?

I'm glad that @2:12 doesn't have an "underlying illness" or is among the "vulnerable." That must be a wonderful luxury. Too bad those among us who are "vulnerable" must "deal with it." As long as @2:12's life isn't inconvenienced in any way, it is worth it to me.

I think the "two weeks to flatten the curve" actually correlates pretty well with the graph at the top, and the time periods in which we had restrictions and mask orders in place. Masks were mandated state-wide, and the numbers came down. The orders were lifted, and the numbers went up. It isn't a perfect correlation, day for day, but it seems pretty clear to me. Some may disagree.

The correlation I'd really like to see, and which is beyond my skill set and resources, is to compare the top graph with the patterns of campaign rhetoric.

I saw 25-30 pics of the Mistletoe Gala on social media. Not one single mask. And they were not all from Rankin County.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
