I'd be interested to see how many people have been shot in Jackson this year. 5 this weekend, with only 1 killed. If that is indicative of the year, that's like 550 people shot with 113 killed.
need Columbo to figure this one out-
So what’s the record? Looks like we are on track for 128 murders
Maybe JPD needs to transport known shooters to Madison and Rankin counties to sort of spread the wealth. Similar program based on the homeless shuttle service by the same agencies which seems to work just fine.
The Jackson Tourist Bureau did announce that people are dying to come to Jackson.
@10am - Pretty sure we’re past the record at this point.

All time record was 92 set in '63. We passed that a couple months back. And passed 100 in October.
Projection @ rate = YE 132
We live in a world that by its very nature is predator dominated. The food chain is based on the fact that some living thing must die so that some other living thing may live. At the top of this food chain is the most dangerous predator of them all, the human race. Never forget that the human species is no better than the training given to it. For without the proper training, the human is no different from the beast.
The number that should be of concern is the number of shootings. I think a safe assumption is that all shooters intent is to kill. Bad shots/good doctors skew the results as to the real safety issue.
If they'd simply let all who are shot, succumb, we'd eventually have peace. I think that's some sort of mathematical law or something.
For those of you asking, I’ve been trying to keep a tally of non-lethal shootings in Jackson for several years now. I can only record what is reported in the news, and it’s obvious the news doesn’t report all shootings. I’ve got 92 people that survived a gunshot so far this year in Jackson. I don’t record accidental or self defense. I’ve argued for years that medical advancements coupled with a declining population can skew homicide rates from the 90’s. Regardless, at least 200 people in Jackson were shot this year.
You're wasting your time, 11:59. Not only do you not have any way of knowing how many are shot, the results of your tabulation have zero utility. Are you also counting those who are shot AT but missed? And those who are shot multiple times, as with those pesky assault rifles with clips that hold a hundred rounds? What about those who are shot by family members? What if somebody at Krispy Creme shot somebody in the parking lot of the old Academy? Would that be a Ridgeland shooting or a Jackson shooting?
Thank you for your astute observations Meaningless Stats. I truly appreciate you showing me the futility of keeping tabs on things like this. I guess the fact that I do it for my own observations, and the fact that I really like to keep tabs on Jackson crime since I make a living entering “vacant” houses in the worst parts of Jackson, offends your sensibility. Forgiveness please.
