Today's edition of Flashback Friday focuses on how Jackson used to be just a few short weeks ago.

Here’s hoping the aspiring videographer doesn’t get shot or carjacked.

What a new concept. *(As if it hasn't been done before with very little, if any success)
2 young dudes just now stepping into the real world with their take on how to make Jackson, The Bold New City, THE place to be. Remember the 2 or 3 guys that promised Jackson Square was about to come back to life?
How many times has Metrocenter had hopes, including the most recent attempt.
Go for it guys, best of luck, and don't forget to post a video in 8 months about why you gave up on Jackson.

This shelter in place is alsolutely killing all these small business.
And to add fuel to the fire Mayor Lubamaba wnted to extend the lockdown, later complaining the governor force his hand.
Stupid. He can't run a city at all. Crime is epidemic, sewer is running down the streets, no jobs in Jackson.

The only thing I miss in Jackson was Shakey's Pizza Parlor. Great memories and piping hot "bubbling dough" pizza crust.

Anonymous said...

Ummm...yeah...right. Felt more at comfort outside the wire in Iraq and Afghanistan than I do in extremely rare trips to Jackson.

Anonymous said...

"Crime is epidemic". To me I see it as Pandemic as it overflows to other areas of the Metro area and involves a good amount more people than one may expect.

Anonymous said...

No hope for Jackson; too far gone. Metro area is not large enough to make it with a giant hole in middle. This leaves about 4-5 places in Mississippi that offer a decent future. Not a great future but decent.

I thought Metro Center was going to be up running and vibrant by now?

I agree with all of the comments thru 11:51.

That being said, I grew up in Jackson, and have lived here all of my life. Do y'all remember when Jackson was actually a pretty good place to live? I'm not going to claim it was outstanding, but the city was nice, and the people were the best you'd find anywhere on the plane! So.....why does Jackson's current majority not want that any more? I just can't figure out why you don't hear any real complaints from that segment. Do they not hate driving on the virtual gravel roads in the city? Do they not get tired of being constantly in fear of being burglarized or raped or robbed or killed? Do they not care that it won't be long before they have NO tax base to take care of the city?

While I commend those who are trying to revitalize areas like Belhaven and Fondren, do those people not realize it's only a matter of time to where those business will have to leave that area, in much the same way they had to leave south and west Jackson? My hat's off to those people, but I can sure say I'm glad I'm not one with a financial stake in those areas!

It's just a shame that an entire City has no perceivable future. The majority of the people who still live there either don't believe that or they don't want it.

To each of you guys above: fine, stay out. No one here cares if you illiterates never step foot here again.

Might I suggest you have your next pro-choice or pro-gun rally at Dogwood, as opposed to the Capitol Building or in Fondren.

So, all the self-loathing tax payers flying fake Mississippi flags is not garnering improvement?

Anonymous said...

If they are so sold on Jackson why is their office located in Flowood?

When is the zoo opening?

And now I see the Jackson radio station " The River" 105.1 FM has gone from oldies radio that I enjoyed, to a black "R&B station. Sad.

Anonymous said...

Bring back Dog’n’Sudzs. Won’t come back til you do.

Anonymous said...

@2:49

If you and your friends would support 105.1, it would not have changed formats. I think radio as a whole is struggling with the exception of a few stations. Kids and Millennials don't listen to the radio, and we older folks are listening less and less. As long as 102.9 and 96.3 don't go anywhere, we'll be fine.

Dog’n’Suds was great !

They had the best root beer floats.
Great steak sandwiches too.

Hell, I even played on their little league baseball team back in the 70's.

Our main most rival was the "Pet Dairy" team at the old Lake Hico ball parks.
( Forrest Avenue @ Watkins Drive ).

Sorry youngsters, please let an old "Boomer" reminisce.
That was a long time ago, in a galaxy . . . far, far away.

I only wish ya'll could have experienced our childhood.

When I read comments here, it sounds like a ton of these readers have been raised to fear black people. It's funny, because it seems that when you watch liberal news, black people are also fearful of white people. Why is there so much fear of each other?

I was raised to respect people and not see color (which as I got older was crap, but understood the sentiment implied. We all see color). Why don't we just respect each other and keep it moving.

If separate but equal was done right, the US would be a better place.

@2:49,

Thanks for the info. I just deleted all the 105.1 pre-sets on my radios. iHeart Radio has ruined so many once great radio stations, most recently 106.7 by removing the "Sunday Brunch" program. Nothing is sacred to that bunch.

By the way, did you see the new tag line for 105.1?

"Real 105.1 Now Rolling 10,000 Joints In A Row Commercial Free"

How classy is that for the City with Soul? 10,000 joints rolled in Jacktown??? Should take about 15 minutes.

Anonymous said...

Men in little hats far away make decisions for iHeart Radio. They probably looked at the demographics of the metro and decided a change would be profitable.

Anonymous said...

I thought when the commercial was over I would see a great show but realized it was all a commercial.

Anonymous said...

I rarely listen to local commercial radio. The advertisement load is suffocating. I grew up in the Delta in prehistoric days listening to WJDX-FM. Now it seems 106.7 (whatever the call letters presently are) has more commercials than music. Bring on Sirius XM!

What little hats are you talking about, 4:25? By all means, please explain.

3:41, your post sure rode each side of the fence. I really can't tell where you stand.

To figure out who you fear, all you have to do is live in Jackson for a while. You'll figure it out quickly.

I wish I could tell you what's cookin' concerning radio, but it's gonna be good.

@5:43
Are you saying that I am wrong are you upset that we recognize the coincidence has become common? Please tell us why you are upset?

Anonymous said...

I sure hope that @6:37 is Sam Adcock, the late David Adcock's son. He has revived Tunes 'til Two on Radio Free Jackson and it is great. I wish that it would be broadcast on the FM dial so I won't have to be tied to Alexa to listen. That would be the best thing to happen to live radio since Dave passed away.

The majority of Jackson residents don’t care. That’s the problem. Actually that’s their problem. Not mine.

Answer is simple and will probably trigger liberals but here goes:
1. My community respects authority
2. My community respects education
3. My community respects property values and quality of life
4. My community respects parents raising their kids
5. My community respects hard work.

Majority of Jackson doesn’t meet those standards and that’s why people don’t want to live there. The other side will scream “no it’s cause you don’t want to live next door to black people!” One of my neighbors are two lesbian women. The other is a black police officer. Great neighbors. They have the same mindset as me. People feel comfortable living with people they feel have the same values.

Hey 6:37, 6:05 here. Two questions:

1) who said I was upset?

2) what “coincidence” has “become common?”

I can’t wait for you to explain because your writing is unintelligible.

As Florida said on Good Times when her husband was killed on his way to Mississippi. Damn Damn Damn. Loved the oldies station. Listened to Casey Kasem old Top 40 shows on Sunday morning. They played Christmas music the entire months of November and December. Wonder if they will still carry the Saints games. I Heart Radio dies suck.

High crime is a leftist agenda tactic used to gain control of people and their tax dollars.

One only needs to answer this simple question to understand this particular leftist tactic:

Would Chokwe Lumumba be Mayor of Jackson if the crime rates dropped enough to cause an influx of people moving back into Jackson?

When one understands the answer to this one simple question, one understands why leftist love chaos, why leftist love high crime, why leftist love evil, etc.; and one can then understand why leftist want spy cameras, want to take away the right to protect yourself with new, stricter gun laws, while at the same time running a revolving door catch and release so-called criminal justice system.

8:02 is exactly right. on my suburban street i have black, Indian, white, and a polyamory trio. great place to live. low crime. respect for keeping up property and making sure everyone is ok and doesn’t need anything. common decent people values. nothing to do with politics or race.

until the city of jackson can reduce crime, fix the infrastructure, bulldoze abandoned derelict properties, have a public school system that isn’t failing, get residents to care about their property and neighbors— which most of this ISNT the role of government in the first place...it’s going to continue to stumble into the future...

i’ll just keep enjoying where i live in the meanwhile.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
