Typical pattern. Reported numbers fall over the weekend and then take back off with numbers from Monday. I guess either Death takes the weekend off too or people are too lazy to file the reports on Saturday and Sunday.
Hospitalizations, ICU, and vent usage all climbed back up too. Vent use is at an all time high. Realistically though the pattern is flat for the past month. No trend either up or down in any metric that can be consistently evaluated. Keep it up guys and push through what should be the summer slump for infections so we can get that 2nd wave kicked off in the Fall with a bang. We're #1 at something.
Goodness! I read that Louisiana is now releasing the names and locations of nursing homes, along with the number of cases and deaths in each nursing homes.
Hard to be too broken up about really old, frail people dying. It...was going to happen sooner or later, past, say, eighty-something? Am I the only one who doesn’t see this as so very terrible?
I'd say if a person enjoys their life, any premature death is a sad thing.
That said, you'll never get me into a nursing home. I will gladly head out into the wilderness and handle things myself before I waste away in a hospital bed eating liquefied food and burning through thousands of dollars a month that ought to go to my kids and grandkids.
@1:33
Most reasonable people understand that the elderly are more susceptible to illnesses of all types. At the same time, none of us want to be cavalier about any preventable death. I'm of the opinion we can take measured steps to protect the vulnerable while not putting the entire country in lock down and crash the economy. However, on this blog, there are only 2 groups - idiots who think we're opening too soon, and lunatics who think we haven't locked it down tight enough yet. I'm the only guy in the middle.
1:33. not at all. it’s good to clear off the government dole-roll for that healthcare and retirement. those people weren’t expected to live past 75 anyway.
and let’s think of the 20-35 year olds who will inherit wealth to pay back those basket weaving degrees from northeast liberal arts colleges. it’s not like those loans were going to get paid back with uber and starbucks jobs.
we can also clear the waiting list for nursing homes
it’s like watching logan’s run— except for real?
They sure are releasing the names in LA, I ain't been able to see Mom since Feb 15, not one case at her facility, hopefully we will get to see her on July 4th.
Most nursing homes are for profit business who cuts corners to keep profits high.
This makes it ripe for a vicious virus to wreck havoc in a certain section of nation.
Congress should investigate why nursing homes failed their customers, the nursing home patients.

I'm disappointed that KF allowed such vile troll comments.
Yeah, normal trolls are good for any blog.
(They increase views, more comments and such . . . which translates into ad revenue . . . aka more money).
We all get that.
But allowing 1:33 PM's comments was something I would have never expected from Kingfish.
Too many people have lost their older loved-ones as a result of this virus.
Tuesday numbers. 399k tests. 21k positive.
@7:06 Unfortunately 1:33 wasn't being a troll. He really believes that and there are a number of others here who feel the same. The comment was offensive but KF was correct to let it through. It reflects a sociopathic view that is important for normal people to understand exists in a minority of the population. Maybe some good can come of it as others reflect on the hatred in his heart and question their own lack of empathy.

Ya know, you are right !
Sorry KF, I got very emotional reading 1:33's comments.
I don’t begrudge KF letting the comment through. I doubt he lets this one through, though. He hasn’t let one through yet where I say he’s failing at cleverness by calling it the wuhan virus. Everyone gets your point KF. Grow up.
I will thankfully never understand people who only care about themselves. What a sad, miserable life these people must live. While my first inclination is to be angry, I'm working to pity them instead.
Virtuous aren’t we. It’s true.
The callous comment about old folks dying was not put diplomatically, but he has a point. We shouldn't shit down society and ruin the economy over something with a relatively low mortality rate, especially when half the dead are folks well past average life expectancy. How many of those that died had other health issues other than being old (which is of course the primary factor in death)? None of us will live forever.
Maybe you're the one that needs to grow up at 9:23. If what someone else calls the virus bothers you, you should take a long hard look in a mirror.
At last, a voice of reason, among the hearts-and-flowers handkerchief-twisters! Thanks, 5:15. Very refreshing. I, as well, thought that 1:33 made a decent point, although, as you note, he (she?) wins no points for delicacy of expression. You others! How boringly predictable you all are, trotting out the tired old meaningless term “troll” every time someone dares to state a view not your own.
If not for commenters like 1:33, blogs like this one would just be same-old same-old echo chambers.
Have to agree with 1:33 and his defenders. My wife’s parents ran out of money in their late 80s, but lived on (and on and ON) until they died at close to 100 (98 and 97). Who paid the bills for their nursing home stay? Yup. I did (wife is an only child). Came close to totally wiping out our retirement savings. We were in our 60s when we finally got free of this massive drain on our finances. Bitter? Yes, I am. My own parents died in their mid-80s, after a perfectly good, long run on this planet. Sometimes I think, what if THEY had also survived another decade or so? Now my wife and I can finally have our OWN old age, but with a whole lot less money than we thought we’d have at this stage. I have nightmares about being a similar burden to our two children. And if they have any sense, they probably have nightmares about it, as well. Bottom line: nobody should drag on that long after running out of money.
