I walked right into my polling place this morning in Rankin County and did my civic duty. No waiting and only took about 10 minutes. I wish it was that way at the DMV.

the photo of mark baker asleep at the legislative chamber is lovely. those late night s in the locker room at ticos with all the lobbyists that control him will take a toll on a man.

Low turnout in Madison.

I just voted in the Republican primary for candidates that didn't have a commercial with them shaking hands with Trump or have a recommendation from Lock Jaw and Chief.

Just say no to Tater Tot.

Anonymous said...

Let’s put Waller in run off with Tater....We can do it!

I voted in Madison this morning, and the guy behind me had to get a new ballot because one of his races was already filled out!!!! Madison Presbyterian Church precinct.

Who's running? And for what?

I know Mark Baker isn't popular among attorneys who know him, but there is a PAC called Don't Vote for Mark that has money to advertise on this site? That's hilarious.

How do you vote often? Unless.....

Anonymous said...

Good catch by that guy 9:39. Damn Presbyterians think they know everything don't they?

Anonymous said...

9:18...then you didn't cast a vote for treasurer or secretary of state did you. I agree, its sickening.

Kingfish said...

Yeah, for those of you advocating open primaries, who are usually Republicans, what you going to say when Blacks start crossing over to vote in them?

Quite a few of you bitched about it in 2014.

Anonymous said...

"crossover" voting does not exist in a open primary, because it is open.

Kingfish said...

True. You know what I mean.

Anonymous said...

Pulled this lever for Walker, fingers crossed

Watson and Foster are the two rising stars. They will be Govs/Senators one day soon. I may have voted for Waller but I really like Foster.
Tate and Hood are jokes, and who would vote for those 2? Also Lynn Fitch is closet pro-choice and a closet liberal. Totally making sure Baker or taggart beats her.

Anonymous said...

KF @ 11:36, just goes to show the sad state of affairs in our state and country. If the blacks you talk about are more interested in taking the money from their preacher and voting for someone to hurt another candidate, versus the candidate they support and think will do better in their district, then that in and of itself is an issue.

Anonymous said...

In almost every other state in the union, people have to register by party (D or R) or as independents. In those states, only persons registered in that party can vote in that party's primary or runoff. We are one of the few states that have open registration and allow you to pick your party primary on election day. It means that people don't have to commit to being in one party or the other (or neither). I think it is time to just go ahead and make people choose their party as part of the voter registration process. You shouldn't be able to have your cake and eat it too.

Anonymous said...

In the 2016 Presidential Election, Hinds County had almost as many Rs votes (25,275) as Madison County (28,265)

Anonymous said...

Yall realize that the two central district jobs are going african american democrat this year right? Dick Hall and Cecil Brown had the name recognition to win a majority black central district, but they are both ancient and retiring.

Anonymous said...

12:46 As in all things political in Mississippi...It depends on WHO is eating the cake.

Anonymous said...

Central District PSC is going African-American Republican. Willie Simmons may beat Butch Lee, they aren't much different on taxes and Simmons definitely has the experience.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish at 11:36 AM, Republican for open primaries here. Blacks can choose to "cross over" any time they like. Last time I checked, we don't register by party here! I didn't bitch at all when they supported Thad. I felt like it was honest support for Thad or against McD. Get in touch with real Republicans, not the extremists. This issue is why I voted AGAINST Watson for SOS today - he led the charge against black votes counting in the Republican primary. I don't want that guy being over elections in my state.

Anonymous said...

I just got back from Greenwood, I voted against Tater, now I am headed to Madisonwhere I can vote against him again.

Anonymous said...

1:45, it wasn't extremist for Republicans to not want their choice of a nominee to be drowned out by a concerted effort to push Democrats into a Republican runoff. Each party should be able to choose its nominee. It wasn't extremist for Republicans to want to elect their next senator and not elect a figurehead that would merely ensure the governor and not the people chose the next senator.

We will see if you can actually be a stooge and buy a statewide seat in MS?

No way McRae and Britton have any shot unless they brought the Benjamins to the table. Sad sad sad.

Anonymous said...

Don't know why Kingfish calls this 'silly season' unless he has zero interest in effective government. But, hey, if effective government were to exist, this blog would turn to shit, and quick.

Anonymous said...

Oh, 2:54, it is extremist not to want to allow anyone to vote in a primary when we don't register by party. A person's political party is not determined by the color of their skin. Thad was a Senator of all the people, not an extremist segment.

Anonymous said...

Lots of things will be going African American in the future. People don't understand the changing demographics in Mississippi. Mississippi will be minority majority by 2030. White middle class leaving the state in droves. That's why so many small towns now have black mayors.

Anonymous said...

4:27,
Silly season is a self deprecating or possibly irreverent reference to how we collectively act during this time. Look at the ads and look at the comments. Let's just call it silly instead of what it really is.

Anonymous said...

Who is buying their seat? Britton and McRae with their own money or Baker with a million from out of state?

Anonymous said...

Waller
Hosemann
Fitch
Watson
Clarke
....anyone but Baker.

Anonymous said...

I know nothing about Bruce Bartley but nothing would make me happier today than to see him beat that smug soft on crime weak marijuana loving Joel Bomgar.

Anonymous said...

10:19 AM Why so against Hayes Dent?

Anonymous said...

How does anybody think Fitch is qualified to be AG?

Anonymous said...

Whoever 12:39pm is, you are either an idiot or a liar, and both are bad things. Lynn Fitch is by far the most business person in the race for AG and was endorsed by the Mississippi Right To Life. You sexist pigs that think a woman cannot be her own person and want to suggest she is someone elses candidate better figure out another plan because everyone knows that Taggert and Baker have sued the hell out of people and have records of bad behavior (ethics complaints by clients and judges) and that is not what anyone wants as an Attorney General. I have been told that Baker has been bought and paid for my the opioid manufactures (501c4 money) and he has it hidden in a veil of secrecy that he passed as chairman. How CORRUPT!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Mississippi will be minority majority by 2030.

Link? Put up.

Anonymous said...

6:28, There's an awful lot of hearsay in that comment. Let me know if you or Lynn need me to define hearsay for you, as she's not practiced law in any court since first time voters were born, and you clearly have no understanding of the job for which she's running.

Kingfish said...

Silly Season? Not familiar with NASCAR, I see.

Anonymous said...

4:35 White middle class is leaving Mississippi no faster than Black middle class. In fact if you took the time to observe Black college graduates you will find that very few go back to rural Mississippi and most seek opportunity outside Mississippi. I'm sure that's not your concern. Re-check your statistics.

Anonymous said...

This is 1239 again. If all you’re looking for in Attorney General somebody who can manage an agency, support Lynn. You have made statements about Taggart and Baker that I know you cannot back up. I would be happy to publicly debate you if you would have the guts to say who you are. Go ahead and put all the evidence you have out in the open. The evidence that bitch is back to back hood is abundantly clear. It isn’t sexist to say that Lynn is an empty suit.

Anonymous said...

Someone, above, said we need a person like Fitch, with business sense, in the AGs office? Whatever became of the notion that we actually need somebody in that job with years of courtroom and law practice under her/his belt.

Besides, what job has she ever held that wasn't in the government sector, most of them appointed by a governor...Business experience is not acquired in the public sector. But, if you need bright red clothing and Ipana smiles, she's your gal.

Anonymous said...

WEll,if you call being a paid lobbyist a practicing lawyer, then I guess Taggy is your bought and paid for BOY!!!!!!!! You obviously don't have any dealings with the AG's office. There has not been an AG in MS in the last 30 years that has been in the courtroom while AG. They manage the agency and Barney can't manage a failing law office. Oh, and 71% of the voters said they want someone other than Barney (Taggy) Fife!

Anonymous said...

@7:37AM, sexist much? Baker was bought out. And, it's obvious the 90k+ that voted for him..never met him. Taggart is only running for one reason...himself. Do I believe there are other candidates out there more qualifed than Fitch? Yes. However, of the three, it's not even close.

Anonymous said...

Agree, 7:37am probably never voted for a woman and never will. I guess they likely wear jeans into a courtroom as well. To criticize someone for being well dressed and representing Mississippi well.....it tells us who you are and how you think like the 50s of yesterday. We shall see if Baker is the sexist some in the blog have said he is. Will he come out and support Lynn Fitch or will he come out for the 1950s gun tote(r) Barney Andy Taggy Fife???

Anonymous said...

Rose vs whatshisname, she sure out worked him, but did he outspend her? Someone visit Mrs. Wray's office and check please. The elections were certainly a fiasco in Madison County. I suspect this race maybe the one being referenced by the MCJ article.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
