Pelahatchie Mayor Ryshonda Beechem suspended Police Chief Joseph Daughtry yesterday. The two engaged in a screaming match Monday in front of City Hall. The exchange was recorded by the media. The video is posted below:
The Rankin County Sheriff's Office will assist Pelahatchie with law enforcement duties this weekend.
City employees were not paid recently. Five employees who are not signed up for direct deposit have not been paid for a month. The Mayor says her attorney told her not to sign any checks for the city. She claims the clerk and Board can sign them. The Board says it has not been able to get approval from the bank to do so. The Mayor finally relented Wednesday and said she would sign payroll checks if the Board did not do so.
Meanwhile, the Mayor explained a delay in getting payroll paid this week in a video posted on Facebook yesterday:
Kingfish note: The Board is expected to override the suspension.
The town has really come together to support its employees. One church raised $1,600 last weekend to help city employees forced to go without pay.
Oh, and one other thing. Some Pelahatchie residents are bitching about the media not covering the "positive" news about Pelahatchie. Well, if no one tells us about it, we can't write about it. I learned about the church donation Monday and guess what? It just got reported. We aren't mind-readers. It also doesn't help when the Mayor and Board play favorites with the media.

The town needs to come together again to vote this incompetent woman out in the next election (which can't come soon enough).
Why so the “Realtor” can take control. This isn’t solely on the mayor. I tell ya...privilege is something...
Is she fighting entrenched corruption? Of course they're going to make her out to be the bad guy, to get things back to normal.
How about a recall election? The is a crazy person.
5 attorneys, 3 sets of clerks, 3 police chiefs.
Surely she has enough sense not to run for re-election. The townspeople need to vote every one of the council members out as well.
She's had to "show proof of residency" at her meeting with the Rankin County School District. If she were ALREADY a resident of Rankin County (more specifically Pelahatchie) she wouldn't have had to do this!!
Go Back To Jackson!!
She needs a mental evaluation. The only corruption is her and all her followers know that. Simple is as simple does and that is play follow the leader. Ryshonda is doing just what she said dismantling the town. She disrespects EVERYONE and wants others to kiss her butt. Sorry game over, kiss your own ass. She’s just mad that he didn’t accept her advances early on, been hell for him since
Well, this website apparently crossed the line somewhere along the way. JJ no longer gets any notifications that the rest of the media seems to be getting from her office.
Here's an idea - just dissolve the city. They could still call it P'hatchie. Let the county take over responsibility of all the utilities, fire/police, etc.
Even the 2 blacks city councilman vote against her all of the time. She isn't fighting internal corruption... she is the corrupt one.
wait until the feds start making arrests...she's not the one going to be going to jail...
just sayin'..
They operate under the strong mayor weak council form of government. The council, doesn’t seem to understand that notion. She can’t win in that “good ole boy”, free wheeling environment.
@10:33- that “Realtor” I, believe you are referencing doesn’t want to be appointed Mayor and wouldn’t accept it if they were. That “realtor” has stayed completely out of all of this. Also, i’m Not quite sure why you are putting “realtor” in quotations. The individual you are referring to is a wonderful person that the town would be extremely fortunate to have as a mayor. That “realtor” who is successful in their own right just so you know; would at least know how the hell to run a town without dividing it. Furthermore, this privilege you speak of- that realtor is well educated and worked their ass off to get to where they are and for everything they have. Nothing and I do mean nothing was handed to them. So, before you go around slinging mud on someone that has absolutely nothing to do with any of this and has stayed completely silent on the matter(s)- you need to get your facts straight.
Perhaps, you should ask the mayor where the vendor taxes from last years Muscadine Jubilee are. She failed to pay them and nobody knows where they are.
It’s time for everyone to stop pointing fingers and own their shit in this circus. The Mayor is not competent nor fit to run the town. She has proven it time and time again. She’s not unfit because of her skin color nor her gender. She’s unfit because she doesn’t know what the hell she is doing! She keeps stating the town is a board controlled with the Mayor having very little power. That’s the way EVERY town is!!!!! That’s how a municipality is ran!!! There’s a system of checks and balances for a reason!!! She is out of control and needs to go!
If she can't have it her way, she makes sure that she will make everyone else's life a living hell. Karma will catch up to her.
At 11:29 EXACTLY!!!! It’s high time she grow up and stop blaming others. She needs to own her shit! She needs to admit she doesn’t know what she’s doing. She had the opportunity to do so much. All she had to do was go in willing to learn instead of going in there acting like she knows it all when she clearly didn’t. When we stop being teachable and open to working together with others we create a mess such as this.
Surely she has enough sense to know RCSD would support the Chief, and NOT her, every single day of the week. Is this because she felt “disrespected”??? After all SHE has put this town through, she pulls this stunt! She just proved her pride is her motivator... not what is best for Pelahatchie.
Her supporters do not help her case. They can’t type complete words and/or form sentences. It’s obvious they only support her because she is black, which is racist in itself. Race should never matter. If a white mayor had pulled the stunts she has pulled, they’d be gone. Most statements I see in her favor are not factual and are complete misrepresentations of the truth. Regardless, if she loved her town, she’d step down. I’d honestly have more respect for her at this point if she broke down and said BoBo and Bellinder made her do it all.
Bellinder’s FB post is hysterical and he’s proven his intent to falsely bait reactions from people over the past week. I knew he’d been too quiet since his “check-gate” was lame and disappointing. He’s still talking about the misappropriation. With the state audit COMPLETE, why does she still need him and his $30k go fund me? She wanted to be mayor, so she will have to take responsibility for her part in the misappropriation.
I saw someone comment about his other relationship... is that what he feels threatened by... that coming to public light? Or, is it the BoBo connection that has been spotlighted? I’m genuinely curious, because I don’t believe anyone is reaching out to him and making threats. He’s just not that important to the truth...
It may be a strong board/weak Mayor but from what I've seen, the Board was more than happy to let the previous Mayor do everything without question.
KF, that may be true, but I’m willing to bet the former mayor knew how to manage the town, follow the rules, and play the game nicely. I’ve always known Pelahatchie to be a quaint, little town until recently. Her image has destroyed the charm.
I know, I know... the misappropriation!! It sucks! It was a bad judgement call! They will all pay fines for their part. But, who hasn’t done it before?? Didn’t Jackson do it with the zoo? I’m sure others have and will continue to do so. When you are sitting there with funds, and you can choose to keep a town moving and replace the funds ASAP, or, publicly declare the town broke for your opponents to eat you alive because money is sitting there... it’s a lose, lose situation. If those funds were in a general fund, there’d be no story.
I know, I know... $82k a year for a clerk. That doesn’t bother me. They’d worked there 30 years! Obviously, this person knew all the workings of the town. According to this mayor, she can’t function without the clerk. Any employer pays people what they are worth or replaces them. It’s that simple. Sounds to me like the previous mayors knew the strength of the clerk and kept and compensated that employee for their knowledge. I bet the previous mayors never got into a situation like she did with landscaping company... because the clerk knew the rules!!!
You can't make this shit up. What a great reality program this would make. Oh wait, isn't there a "casting call" today for "The Real Politicians of Pelahatchie?"
Does anyone know the details of her husband’s DUI arrest in March? (I’ve wondered why he stayed so quiet through all of this.)
11:47, There is no such municipal government in Mississippi as the weak council strong mayor.
@ 1:07- I do not know the details but hell I can’t blame the guy. If I were married to her i’d drink too.
Kingfish- she started out on the wrong foot with the board. She came in acting like she was The Queen and they had to do all she said. She didn’t even know how to properly call a meeting to order. She acted like an asshole when the towns attorney would try to advise her on proper rules and procedures. She did things she wasn’t allowed to do without board approval. So, yeah they pushed back. That’s what they were elected to do! She had ran on the promise she would destroy the town and they are there to see she doesn’t and she didn’t like it.
Kingfish in response to your comment about the previous Mayor. He had clerks in place who knew how to run the town. This Mayor has run off{ ,Betty Massey retired and Ruby Ward was run off by the Mayor}, the ones who could run this process smoothly. This is when everything went to hell. It got a little better when Tommy Lyle And Racheal Knight came in and Betty Massey helping them. But since then nobody knows what's going on. Its not the new woman's fault She just don't know. The mayor wanted to train her and the mayor hasn't got a clue. So yes Knox knew how to run the town and this mayor does's have a clue. Its just time for Ryshonda to go and lets get somebody in place that can lead instead of destroying.
3 sets of clerks, 5 attorneys, 3 police chiefs.
I support the Chief
@KF, that record speaks VOLUMES about her claims that she has tried to work together with everyone. She’s bitter that she can’t select and hire her own folks. Maybe she should have studied the functionality of the Town of Pelahatchie BEFORE she ran for mayor. Please, dear townspeople, put this incompetent mayor out of office!
@ 11:47 Here is some reading material to clear up your ignorance. Pelahatchie has a weak mayor form of government. The aldermen seem to understand their role but The Mayor does not.
Mayor-council governments – Voters elect a mayor and a city council usually referred to as the board of aldermen. The number of aldermen varies from five to seven depending on the population of the city. Aldermen are elected from geographic districts
called wards. Depending on the powers granted the mayor, mayor-council governments are described as either a weak mayor type or a strong mayor type. The weak mayor-council form is the most widely adopted in Mississippi. Voters elect the mayor and aldermen who together decide whether other officials such as the city clerk or tax collector are elected or appointed. The mayor shares administrative powers with the aldermen including budget preparation. In the strong mayor-council form, the mayor has the power to hire and fire city employees and has a larger role in budget preparation. Under both forms, the mayor presides over council meetings and has veto power over council actions.

@2:11 you obviously don’t understand government.
So, she has run off several employees & can't get along with ANY of the five Aldermen. Hmmmm. Can't cry racism since there are African Americans on the Board of Aldermen (not that she hasn't tried). Hmmm. Can't cry sexism as there is a female on the Board. Hmmm. Mrs. Beecham' supporters want us to believe that all 16+ people that she butts head with are the problem, that they are all embezzling or doing something shady. Hmmmm. What does appear to be the common denominator?
Ross was a very good Mayor and left the city in good shape. Not many small towns have a CPA for a Mayor. All a new mayor had to do was to keep its system in place and let the trained people run the city. Nope, this crazy person had to show that she was crazy.
This woman is absolutely unbelievable! She is STILL declaring herself a victim of the Chief. What is wrong with her delusional self?!? Why does she keep posting the INTERPRETATION of what appears to be the Madison County comptroller as STATE LAW?? If there is a precedent to back his opinion, shouldn’t her attorney give her that citation to post instead of a two year old email? She claims to have a grasp on the law now, but can’t decipher opinion from law.
Her followers seem caught up on the question “could you treat your supervisor that way at your job?” One, she’s not his supervisor. I believe he’s hired at the will and pleasure of the board. And two, no supervisor could behave the way she has behaved and keep their job.
And, the modern-day slave references are ludicrous. Did she, her husband, or their supporters ever take a US History class? She is insulting those who truly suffered. She is not being victimized by the system. She is victimizing the system and destroying the heart of a town.
Lastly, I pray the curriculum at Pelahatchie High School has improved since her vocal followers were students. I’ve yet to see one that could spell and/or create legible sentences.
PittPanther said...Is she fighting entrenched corruption? Of course they're going to make her out to be the bad guy, to get things back to normal.
I've quit wondering if Pity-Pander is sane. There's not even any doubt left after four years of reading his nonsense. But I do wonder if he's ever been close to a private sector job in a place of significant size.
When an employee can't get along with a single other employee, is intent on throwing ball bearings into the machinery on a daily basis, is intent on dragging the place to a halt and can't handle her personal business properly away from the job...Do we really question whether she's simply trying to do what's right?
Pity is as off the rails as this woman is!
