AG Runoff Thread

Andy Taggart and Lynn Fitch will square off for the Republican nomination for Attorney General Tuesday.  Champeenship bout.  Steel cage match.  Loser leaves town.  12 hour time limit.  They are both out there beatin' the bushes for bushels of money and votes.  Consider this post to be an open thread about the AG runoff.

Andy raised $140,133 during the runoff period while Lynn nabbed $170,178.  However, the 48-hour reports are piling up for both candidates.  She has a cash on hand balance of $71,337 while he has $129,668.  He spent half a million smackers on this race, a sizeable sum indeed but she spent nearly $900,000.

Looks like a ton of Fitch's money comes from the same people who donated to Jim Hood. More of the same liberal out of state lawyers.

Love the ads on this site of her with Trump. I won't vote for any candidate that thinks riding Trump's coattails is the key to their success.

Anonymous said...

Andy has all the momentum. He has worked hard and Fitch wont even debate because she is scared to death.

Anonymous said...

the more i hear about lynn fitch the less i like her.

If Mark Baker is for ya, I am agin' ya.

Anonymous said...

The AG is suppose to be the lead attorney in the state. Which means arguing in court. If Lynn is scared to debate Andy, how can she go to court? Seems like a real lawyer would relish the opportunity to debate and argue their reason they are the better candidate. Here’s one hoping her dodge strategy backfires. I mean, even Tater had enough potatoes to debate. She looks scared and weak.

If she's spent $900,000 from campaign coffers, how many taxpayer dollars has she spent promoting "Treasurer Lynn Fitch" in useless birthday cards for 529 beneficiaries, MACS television and radio commercials DURING and election cycle, and other useless items during her time in office?

Close your eyes and listen to her platform. It sounds like Jim Hood circa 2015.

To all the "I'm with Trump" toadies who think it replaces substance: What happens to you when Trump implodes? Andy for A.G.

Anonymous said...

Yessssssssssss. I know what I'm doing this afternoon.

*pops popcorn*

Anonymous said...

Know all three. Was for Baker. Now will vote Taggart, despise him less than Fitch.

Anonymous said...

If Lynn Fitch doesn't have the Cajones to debate then she doesn't deserve to be elected state rat catcher. She could be the AG's secretary though.

Anonymous said...

Lynn is a very nice lady and has a nice family. She is personable and seems genuine. I think I could support her for many public offices, but in a job where legal experience and legal office management are the key, how can anyone choose Lynn over Andy? The AG job isn't supposed to be a stepping stone job to the next political office and we deserve an AG that knows and understands the law and isn't just posturing for the next job.

Lynn knows she can't debate Andy and her strategy all along has been to just do a few meetings here and there where she knows she won't get anything but softball questions. If we allow her to use her office and public money to build her statewide name ID, then not run on ANYTHING except her name ID, we've created a platform for any empty suit to do the same over and over.

I'm sure I don't agree with Andy on everything, but I sure trust his judgement to weigh the issues and make the right decision.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't trust Andy Taggart to be dog catcher. I will not vote for this two faced Bible Thumper.

Anonymous said...

She spent 900k on that campaign? oh my. I think Andy will catch her. Hope so, for MS.

Anonymous said...

12:29. Exactly. And she wanted to cancel MPACT as I remember.

Anonymous said...

Andy's definitely the better choice! The guy is just REALLY bright, and I believe he wants to make a difference in the AG's office. On the other hand, I've heard virtually nothing from / about Fitch, and it appears to me this is just the next political office she hopes to secure.

Bill Dees said...

@12:29 If you had a drug product liability claim against Big Pharma, would you want the chairman of the law firm you hire, who's a bond lawyer, to try the case,or would you prefer a lawyer who was an expert in lawsuits against Big Pharma? The AG is the "chairman" of a big firm of State lawyers. The AG should hire the best lawyer available, whether on staff or in private practice.

Anonymous said...

Anyone but Taggart. Please.

Anonymous said...

It would be one thing if Fitch had done a stellar job as Treasurer. She didn't. Her sense of entitlement during this campaign, that it was her turn, has been a turn off. Its like she was somehow convinced that her connections to Hood, money sourcing and other, wasn't going to be discovered.

Anonymous said...

Andy will win the run-off by 7 or more points. Like Reeves, all that Fitch can say is "I support Trump", "Mississippi values", and "true conservative".

Anonymous said...

If I understand what Taggart is saying he is avenging his son's death by running for AG. While the death of his son is certainly tragic, I'm not certain that is a valid reason to seek the position. He also says he wants to throw all the resources of the AG's office at fighting the drug war. What I would like to know is exactly and specifically what he would do different than all the other people throughout the U.S. have done for the past 50 years in this very same effort. It seems that candidates always have the answers to all the problems that have plagued us for decades. Then 4 years later at the end of their term nothing has changed. As for Lynn Fitch - she needs a haircut.

Anonymous said...

I am a huge Trump supporter, yet I am all behind Andy. I honestly could care less what local people think about one person- for me it is policy. Lynn is all in with the liberal trial lawyers and is secretly liberal on many issues as she attempts to ride the ranks to become a career pol... Give me Andy, who is truly pro life and pro guns. I'll forgive his Kasich nonsense because Lynn is a disaster and that is why she wont debate.

Taggart's ad on this website discussing Trump is disturbing. Either Taggart is a dolt or he thinks we are stupid.

I voted against Trump but I know that charging China an average of 3.5% tariffs while they charge us an average of almost 13% in tariffs is not a good deal. This is without even mentioning the intellectual piracy by the Chinese.

So we have a candidate for AG who is a dope or who is smart but will openly lie to voters. Neither option is good. Andy is for Andy.

The #DontVoteForLynn ads on this site are shady as hell. They remind me of the crap Phil Davis pulled in 1998 against Heath Hall and Art Rhodes. Phil was convicted of election fraud for those shenanigans, BTW.

They are so obviously pro-Fitch, showing Taggart next to Mike Moore and what looks like Al Franken, while Lynn is at the top of the ad proudly shaking Trump's hand. The problem is they are made to appear as if they are pro-Taggart. That is dangerous territory for whomever is behind them, especially if it is Fitch's campaign.

If you don't remember, Phil Davis was running for Congress in what was then district 4. He sent out campaign literature that was supposedly from Heath Hall, stating that Hall planned to move in to the 4th district from Madison if he was elected. He also sent phony letters from the ACLU endorsing Rhodes. He pleaded guilty to election fraud in 1999.

KF, I'd seriously reconsider running those ads. You don't need to be associated with campaign literature that is misleading at best and fraudulent at worst.

There's no way that's a Taggart ad. Someone just wants you to think it is.

Taggart won 3 counties in the primary, he’ll win 4 maybe 5 in the runoff and Fitch will be elected. Taggart is only doing this to help sell his next book.

Putting out videos calling your opponent a liberal because they took money from people that donated to Hood, who many on this site voted for when he was AG and even supported prior to Waller jumping into the Gov race, doesn’t make you a liberal.

When people go dirty they are desperate, Fitch wins.

Anonymous said...

For those wondering, the same PAC which was called #DONTVOTEFORMARK advertised on this site immediately prior to the primary election. The "group" amended its campaign finance report to be named #DONTVOTEFORLYNN after a runoff was declared.

See the reports here.

You cant click on the Fitch with Trump and Taggart with Moore ads as they dont link anywhere. Clearly Lynn Fitch supporters behind them. But we know people will fall for them.

Can't vote for someone who would have preferred Clinton make the SCOTUS picks over Trump.

Whether you like or hate Trump he's shoved it the left's ass with his two SCOTUS picks and our country would be doomed had Mrs. Evil Clinton made them instead.

Hopefully RINO's Kasich and Taggart never hold any office again with an R by their name.

Fitch's handlers told her she could balance her relationship with Jim Hood with waving the Trump 2020 flag. So, at every turn, she now announces her live for Jesus, Mississippi and Trump. Sorry, it won't work. We need a lawyer in this job not just someone who passed the bar exam.

I'll tell you what's desperate, 2:28 - Desperation is Fitch claiming Taggart is opposed to the president. She actually thinks painting her opponent as anti-trump will somehow make Trump a liberal. That is desperation. She is not an attorney any more than Kenny Stokes is an attorney. Shuffling bonds 35 years ago is first year chump work. Looking closely at her ads, they could have been paid for and floated by that clown in Desoto County, Merle Flowers.

When Fitch was head of the State Personnel Board, she ran the state employee performance rating system in the ground. We thought it couldn't get worse, but she proved us wrong. Now there are dozens of items unrelated to job performance and no items related to job performance. If your job was digging post holes and your supervisor wanted an item on your rating to measure how many post holes you dug, they wouldn't allow such a question. Don't like incompetent public servants? Don't vote for her.

Anonymous said...

@1:55 I don't know who those people are you are talking about, but the #DontVoteForLynn ads are certainly shady as hell and isn't advocating "for or against" a candidate crossing the line for PACS anyway? In this case they are clearly misrepresenting who they are for and that should be illegal if it's not. Otherwise the "I don't care if she's a crook and took children's candy, I'm for Barbara!" stuff would get ridiculous.

ELECTION EVE CANDIDATE FORUM

Join Mississippi’s two largest Republican women groups as they host an ELECTION EVE CANDIDATE FORUM, where Gubernatorial hopefuls Bill Waller, Jr. and Tate Reeves, along with Attorney General candidates Lynn Fitch and Andy Taggart, will provide voters with the most up-to-date information to head into the polls.

This runoff promises to be the one of the most closely watched elections in our state. Don’t miss this important event, where the candidates will discuss pressing issues of concern for the State of Mississippi.

MONDAY, Aug. 26th, 5 pm - 6:30 pm
The Lake House, Ridgeland, MS

Anonymous said...

@ 4:08 -

Is a "forum" the same as a debate??

Anonymous said...

"If we allow her to use her office and public money to build her statewide name ID, then not run on ANYTHING except her name ID, we've created a platform for any empty suit to do the same over and over."

Sheesh, that just described the successful strategy of every useless Mississippi elected official for the last twenty years. They want Mississippians to remain ignert....so they'll never know who or what the hell they're voting for.

Anonymous said...

Fitch will beat Andy because the Republican women vote is all in with her.

Anonymous said...

If what 4:08 says is true, that's pathetic. Lynn has avoided debates and forums repeatedly since April, even backing out of some after they were publicly announced. Now she's doing some forum at a small venue on the eve of the election? I'm sorry, but her schedule isn't that busy. She's been hiding. Lynn is just hoping that name recognition and an affable personality can win. That works sometimes, so we'll have to see here, but I hope not. Whatever Taggart's shortcomings and mistakes, he's much more qualified for the job and run a better campaign.

It turns out that she and Clinton share more than a sense of entitlement. Has anyone noticed that "Lynn for Mississippi" closely resembles "Hilary for America" from 2016.

Well said @3:22.

Ask Fitch how many cases she has tried in her legal career. Her answer plus two dollars equals two dollars.

I truly can’t believe I’m the first to mention that Fitch doesn’t even use proper English in tv her ad. 10 points for the person who identifies her terrible error(s).

What the heck has she spent $900,000 on?. I have not heard a peep out of her for 3 months.

I am voting for Lynn Fitch. We need a woman in high office in Mississippi. I am a 74 YO WM and believe that woman's intuition trumps (no pun intended) bible-thumping every time.

Anonymous said...

Lynn's political signs are a clear indication she plans to run for other offices in the future. "Lynn for Mississippi" is all they say. Very generic and can be recycled for any office. She plans to win strictly by name recognition alone.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, Lynn wants "a" public office on her path to another one. Andy wants the AG office for a purpose. Don't like his purpose, fine. But he's got a vision for the office and Lynn only has a vision for her office.

The self-proclaimed oldster at 7:52 no doubt rejects the reality of sexual harassment, thinks girl candidates ought to all wear short red shirts and remembers his office breakroom from 20 years ago where the girl employee up front was in charge of getting his coffee ready.

Otherwise, what's all this nonsense about female republicans voting bloc? I thought only democrats did that? Have women become so unable to engage in critical thinking skills that they've become puppets in the voting booth? I don't believe that.

Anonymous said...

I will never vote for someone too chicken to debate. Andy is a smart and competent lawyer. He is not using this as a political stepping stone. #womenforTaggart

Anonymous said...

Madison paper killing Lynn for using so much of her campaign on personal spending.

Anonymous said...

Fitch has misused the office of treasurer the past 8 years. Nothing but flashy teeth and a leathery face plastered all over unclaimed property fairs. Renaming the state website and slapping her name all over her executive suite at Sillers. She is a disgrace to her office. Hope Fitch loses. Andy is so much more articulate and routinely practices in state court.

Anonymous said...

Andy Taggart as the Republican candidate will almost certainly ensure the Democrats keep the AG office. His racist past will destroy his campaign. The blackface incident is going to comeback, go national and sink his campaign, plus some other things hiding under the rug will be exposed. It will be a Roy Moore media frenzy. He is going to squall about tear down that flag as a defense and point fingers at ole segregationist, to no avail ( which will piss off the base). Its going to get real ugly and he fits the narrative ole racist white man. Republicans should run from this guy as fast as they can and hide behind a woman.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg may be the only remaining liberal alive today with any class and honor. The fact that she, a liberal icon, blasted the totalitarian minded leftist mob for their handling of the Kavanaugh hearings proves her integrity and lack of hypocrisy. Hopefully all of us, regardless of political views, are praying for and wishing the absolute best for RBG.

If however, Trump were to get another SCOTUS confirmation, Taggart will look 1/3 more stupid than he already does…having been a NEVER TRUMPER more willing for Hillary Clinton’s SCOTUS choices to be confirmed than Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and possibly a third Trump nominee.

If enough establishment minded RINO’s like Taggart had gotten their way, the direction and future of our nation would have been disastrously changed forever. Who knows, the SCOTUS could actually save our country from the left the planet loons like AOC, Omar, Sanders, etc.

Let’s send Taggart down the same path as Bill Kristol and his Weekly Standard magazine and make this his “Last Issue.”

11:10 must not have been sober when he posted. Fitch is not ever bound by the truth or by decency. IF she thought she had something that potent, she would use it.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it hilarious that Jim Hood is now calling for debates after he refused to debate his primary opponents. The only candidate who has been more afraid of a primary debate has been Lynn Fitch.

Anonymous said...

A candidate vying for chief counsel for the state has so little confidence in her ability to argue her own case for the job that she won’t debate or even attend a forum with her opponents. That’s totally insane.

Time stamp this: Fitch will get eaten alive by the national media and dems during the general election. It’s going to be bad.

11:10 your desperation is showing.

8:37 am - I think you mean 50% more stupid, not “1/3 more stupid” since trump is going from 2 SCOTUS picks to 3, under that scenario.

*******
Um, it is a 2:08 minute video of Taggart talking in a forum. Nothing out of context. Andy thinks the voters are dumb. Fitch is not a good candidate, but Taggart is terrible.

Fitch Is In Desperation Mode.. said...

Replying to 11:10 - Talking about a drunken post...What the hell racist past are you talking about?

If the Fitchster had heard any remote rumor about Taggart being a racist, she would have long-ago trotted it out faster than a midget calf-roper running between the legs of a bow-legged rodeo clown in red over-alls. Sheesh and By-Gosh!

The campaign opposed to Andy is deep in the trench of desperation.

Anonymous said...

White women are apparently the new black voting bloc.

Evelyn Gandy would have made a good governor. Fitch never will and never could rise to that level of ethics and credibility.

Think for yourselves, women - reject the silly notion of voting for this nincompoop simply because she's a woman. We're talking here about the state's chief attorney with responsibility for representing agencies of state government government at the highest levels and an attorney who must be able to effectively and competently seek redress for wrongs done to this state and its residents.

This is not an office manager's job or one for a paper-shuffler who has never seen the inside of a courtroom.

Anonymous said...

Fitch wouldn't use any racist innuendo regarding Taggart because it doesn't play to the base. Jim Hood will be the one using that, if it actually exists. Even he may shy away from it for fear of negative consequences. He already knows he has the black vote simply by having the D next to his name.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
