Baker Endorses Taggart

The Andy Taggart for Attorney General Campaign issued the following statement.

Representative Mark Baker of Rankin County, whose spirited campaign for Attorney General very nearly propelled him into a runoff for the office, has announced his support for Andy Taggart in that race. Between the two of them, Taggart and Baker tallied 56% of the votes cast last Tuesday in the first primary. “I endorse and support Andy Taggart in the August 27 run-off election for the Republican nomination for Attorney General,” wrote Baker, Chairman of the House Judiciary ‘A’ Committee.

“I respect Mark Baker’s honorable service in the Legislature, and thank him for his professional and courteous campaign,” said Taggart. “I am humbled and honored by his endorsement. As a former prosecutor, I know that Chairman Baker recognizes the importance of electing an experienced courtroom attorney to protect the interests of the people of Mississippi.”

“I look forward to meeting Mark’s supporters on the campaign trail over the next two weeks, and to earning their confidence and votes on August 27. I had the privilege of seeing Mark and his family members very frequently on the campaign trail as he and I went head to head in this race, and I fully understand how he was able to earn the support of nearly 100,000 people around our state. He spoke to many of the very issues that are important to Karen and me, and we believe we have a compelling case to make to Mark’s supporters that I am now the best qualified candidate to serve as our state’s top law enforcement official and top lawyer,” Taggart concluded.

Does it really matter who Baker endorses? Does that mean that a "Rankin County deal" is in play?

I don't really care who wins this Republican primary (runoff), but I'm willing to guess there are some sphincter muscles that are pretty tight right now in the Fitch Camp.

Either way, it should be fun.

I'm looking forward to these candidates "watch parties" in a few weeks.

Good luck to both Andy & Lynn !

I have never seen where Taggart has EVER had a job where work or sweat was required !! The Bapt. Hospital Board .. for example.

Anonymous said...

It may not matter who Baker endorses, but it damn sure emphasizes the fact that we need an experienced courtroom prosecutor in this job. And there is only ONE in the contest.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe Baker is endorsing Taggart, considering Taggart hasn't been on the Trump bandwagon like Fitch?

Regardless of Baker's endorsement, I was going with Taggart.

Anyone that isn't on the Trump bandwagon, is my preferred candidate

Good 'ol boys are alive and well.
Elect Lynn Fitch.

Anonymous said...

It means the "Good Ole Boy" machine is behind these two clowns since they can't control Fitch. Ask Taggert why he annointed D.I.Smith to take his place as supervisor while depriving the voters of making a choice. Only Communists do crap like that.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I would have never guessed that from a Trumper. I have new respect for Baker for backing the better candidate.

Anonymous said...

What is a 'Rankin County Deal'? This thread ain't about Tater.

Anonymous said...

Let's face it. Fitch was an absolute dud as Treasurer. You won't find anywhere on her campaign website mention of our massive national problem with illegal aliens though she threw in some soundbites about them in one of her TV spots as primary day approached.

I voted for Baker and in this lesser of evils match I'm going with Taggart despite his stupid man-crush for that raving sore loser Kasich.

Anonymous said...

It's my understanding Mr. Taggert was a "never Trumper" which, by default, means he would have been a Hillary supporter.

Sorry, I can't support anyone who would have chosen Hillary over Trump regardless of the circumstances.

Some have said Fitch is Pro-choice, so for me, there is some more research to be done before the runoff.

I'm Still unhappy with Andy about the flag. I don't mind if he thinks it should be changed, but he wants the legislature to change it. In other words you and me aren't smart enough to make the decision. You and me own all the property, work all the jobs, pay all the taxes, raise all the kids...it's our state. The legislature are our hired hands. If the issue was urgent or complex you could argue they should vote on it, but it's not. The anger and hard feelings that would occur by taking the people's vote away on this would be massive and long lasting. Andy still has time to fix this before I vote against him. He just needs to say that while he is in favor of a change, he realizes that the people are in charge and it's their decision to make.

Anonymous said...

since when is any state's treasurer responsible for fixing the failure of the federal government to prevent illegal immigration. Taggart shafted us when he left the BOS so she has my vote.

Anonymous said...

If Baker is for someone, then I am against them.

The best way for primary runners off voters to determine the best candidate for Attorney General is for the 2 remaining candidates to debate!

Anonymous said...

The MS Attorney General office is a non-entity-- locally, regionally, and nationally. It's been that way so long, no one even seems aware of it.

There are two primary candidates that remain. Lynn Fitch has avoided any real scrutiny either in practice of law and this primary. I don't know what she did while a staff attorney at the AG's office, but I haven't heard anything specific that leads me to believe that it involved real policy making or litigating. Whatever people's concerns are with Taggart, he's been in the arena and knows how to litigate. I had high hopes for Fitch, but at every opportunity she's avoided scrutiny during this primary. I don't expect the AG to show up in court everyday or handle arguments, but nothing I've heard Fitch say indicates she has any substance or actual plans/vision for the AG's office. I don't care that the AG's office is the next logical step in the succession in her political career. The AG's office is distinct from the other statewide offices, and whoever is the next AG needs to prove they aren't an empty suit. I'm pretty conservative, but I have more confidence in the Dem nominee from the ACLU than I do for LF. I'm voting for Andy.

Anonymous said...

Lynn has never actually been in a court of law. "Special Assistant" was under Mike Moore. Her private practice was as a bond attorney. She's just trying to use this as a stepping stone for Guv. Look at her yard signs -- no office printed on them so she can use them again for her next office. Lastly, I don't trust any AG candidate who is afraid to debate her ideas in public. Andy by a mile.

Anonymous said...

Why has Lynn not answered to missing a bond payments? We, Mississippi, has been around for over 200 years and not aware of the state or Tater EVER missing a damn bond payment. Come on Lynn, you had one job!

She is a neophyte in the courtroom. How many of you would hire her to represent you in a court of law in a civil or criminal matter? Seriously, think about that. She has no place in the AG office.

Kingfish, if your ass was in court and you had to pick an attorney, would you take Lynn or Andy?
I will hang up and listen.

Mississippi HAS defaulted on its debt. Go to Google and type in "When Mississippi defaulted its debt' and you'll see that in 1840 we walked away from $7 million...and that was then. It's a lot more today adjusted for inflation. Read the NPR article that'll pop up first.

Can’t vote for NEVER TRUMP TAGGART!!!

How arrogant and establishment minded must one be to prefer Hillary Clinton over Trump?

How can someone claiming to be a Republican prefer the party that not only believes in very late term abortion, but now supports killing babies after birth?

Just like on the golf course, the difference between winning a hole, and losing a hole, is called a swing.

Can you imagine “the swing” we would have instead of Trump’s two SCOTUS picks/Gorsuch & Kavanaugh had evil Clinton been elected???

Taggart’s NEVER TRUMP stance is unforgivable and Baker endorsing Taggart is very disappointing.

Anonymous said...

Lynn really has never done much of anything but mooch off the state government. But she will get the woman vote.

Taggart will carry the male vote 60-40, Fitch will carry the lady vote 75-25.

Fitch in a narrow win again. Then, she will come back out of her hole for a party, then back in again for 4 years.

Anonymous said...

This thread sounds like Taggart tactics! You guys are a real trip. The AG does NOT practice law in the courtroom. They have Special Assistant Attorney Generals who do that. When is the last time that you saw Jim Hood litigating in a courtroom? Get real - the AG is a desk job for a decision-maker.

Anonymous said...

Hood made a career showing favoritism and ignoring crime, while hiring his trial lawyer friends to sue businesses on behalf of the state under the guise of ‘consumer protection.’ NOW those same plaintiff lawyers and Hood are supporting Lynn Fitch. You are only partially right 7:05, and I agree that voters need to be hiring a decision maker, however we also need A REAL PRACTICING ATTORNEY that is capable of personally litigating to support and defend the state’s legal interests. The only way we can determine the best person for that job is for the two candidates to engage in a series of debates. Then let the voters choose based on than relying on the trial lawyers and Hood to continue to hold this important office.

Anonymous said...

705 - AG Hood has tried to be in the courtroom many times when he thought a news camera would be there. Most notable was when he went to Neshoba County and almost screwed up the trial of E R Killen, usurping DA Mark Duncan'a job. He also went to Vicksburg not once but three times dealing with the trial and retrial of a MHP patrolman. Screwed that one up also, but his personal interest evidently took over.

But, the AG is not really a state prosecutor as you say. The AG is the manager of a law firm. Lynn has proven that her and her women's social club in the Siler Bldg can't do - manage. At least Taggart has shown much managerial ability, as the Executime Director of the State GOO, as the Chief of Staff in Gov Fordice'a office, and recently as the manager of - wait for it - a successful law office.

Taggart got to where he is based on his own capabilities and investment of his time and money into his business. Lynn got to where she is by her, well - can't say it here. Worked for Democrat Mike Moore. Worked part time for Democratic law firm McGlinchy Stafford as an assistant bond lawyer. Was appointed to a state job by Chalice Williams, and then promoted by Charlie before his retirement from the golf course to a lobbying job.

Lynn 'management' of her current position in state government has only one notable accomplishment. For the first time since reconstruction Mississippi failed to make a bond payment - and when it was discovered, she tried to cover it up.

For me, I'll take the guy who has,at least seen the inside of a courtroom, and more importantly used his abilities to build and manage a private business, rather than one who uses her personal attributes to move up the state government position ladder.

Anonymous said...

Also what about Taggart and his cushy Mississippi Technology Alliance gig at $150,00.00 plus??? These people make me freaking sick

Anonymous said...

So I understand the pain of having to vote for a never Trumper. I don't like how Andy was so against a POTUS who has saved our land. It shows me his lack of discernment and his love for status quo. I mean come on- Kasich is not pro life or pro 2A. This will likely cost Andy this election.

But Andy is far better than Lynn. She is pro-choice, she is bought out by trial lawyers. She is the real liberal no matter how liberal Andy may be (esp on immigration and size of govt). I'm taking Andy.

Anonymous said...

all this talk by the JJ LEGAL EXPERTS about fitch having no courtroom experience. bobby kennedy had never even tried a case when he was appointed by his brother to be attorney general of the united states. thats why the AG has what's known as a staff.

Anonymous said...

Way to go Mark! Yeah right, way to shoot yourself in the political foot. Sorry I supported you in the primary. Rest assured I will not do it again in the future. We all know that Andy is a RINO and hates our duly elected President.

Anonymous said...

Taggart's Never Trump sentiment is his most endearing quality.

Anonymous said...

7:19 pm You shouldn't say that where people know it's you saying it. They will question your abilities.

Many " non-Trump" conservative Republicans voted for the Libertarian candidate or wrote in a candidate Jeb Bush or Cruz etc.

Anonymous said...

I'm real surprised at the number of women who rush to the side of a female candidate simply because of her gender. When they do that, it's a form of self-degradation. They admit their inability to engage in critical thinking skills in making important decisions. And, they buy into the 'glass ceiling myth', which is something Fitch is counting on heavily.

But, equally as inane are the examples of voters who will say things like, "Well, lookie here, if he ain't a Trumper he ain't got no vote from me!" or "If he don't like my flag, Ima write in my neighbor's name!" Not that either has anything remote to do with the job of the State Attorney General.

Anonymous said...

I'll vote for Andy because he is a never-Trumper. Went to law school with him, know he is bright, capable and a hard worker. I've been a Republican voter for decades, detest Trump and his ilk, and am LMAO at the poster who says Trump "saved our land". I'm female, too. God help us.

Anonymous said...

If you have no experience, and your brother is the president, then yes you can be appointed to US AG, subject to confirmation.

If you very limited and unrelated experience, and you seek a partisan nomination, then you have to answer to voters and account for your experience or lack thereof.

I'm no fan of the Kennedys but Bobby Kennedy's resume pre-AG is much more more impressive than Lynn Fitch's. How about we agree that neither were/are adequately capable, and move on to the next candidates.

Anonymous said...

Can someone point to where Taggart was a never-Trumper? I know he supported Kasich until his bitter end, but didn't he then support Trump? I haven't been around Andy lately but I can't believe he could have ever pulled the lever for Hillary or any Democrat for that matter.

Anonymous said...

Anyone who knows Andy well would spit coffee at the idea that he would vote for a Clinton. He is an actual principled conservative, unlike the current President, who makes it up as he goes along.

Anyone who knows Andy can verify that he works hard and plays hard, just as the doctor would order. He's had his own law firm for years now, and that requires long hours.

Andy took Kasich's failure personally; too personally, some would say. He has bounced back from much worse, as many of you know, and as he has described during his campaign.

Lynn Fitch is qualified, but Andy will do a better job when it comes to relentless pursuit of criminals of all persuasion, and in the daily work of interpreting state law for the Governor and Legislature.

Anonymous said...

Best description yet, 12:48.

There is no way Andy would vote for Clinton. He may not have supported Trump, but he damn sure didn't support Clinton. And guess who's president now? Trump. Nothing any of us can do about that.

Andy isn't looking to beef up his political resume like Fitch is. Fitch is using this as a stepping stone for her next race in four years, hence no office listed on her campaign signs. Wouldn't you rather have an EXPERIENCED and passionate attorney general as your state law enforcement officer instead of a woman who will jump in the political bed with whomever can help her the most?

We need a proven leader and it's my opinion that Fitch is NOT it. Andy is brilliant, wise and an excellent orator. He will represent us well. Fitch won't even accept an invitation to debate with Andy because she knows he'll scorch her. He's successful and has a passion for the position. It's refreshing for someone to actually want the job for the actual job duties and not as a political stepping stone. We have way too many on the stepping stone path as it is.

Plus, Fitch was rude and disrespectful to a SPB employee waaaaaay back in the day and God don't like ugly.

Good day.

Barney Fife (Taggy) and Strong Arm Baker are both sexist anyway and would never support a woman for a job. Neither one has EVER endorsed a woman for office. NEVER WILL!

As far as Barney Fife hating our President, On Aug 12, 2017 he Taggy tweeted, "I voted against Trump in primary and in the general" That says it all, you are no conservative, no republican and you are not the man you say you are. Let's see if more information comes out on that?

Also, why is it the only time I see Barney Fife with his gun on his belt is when he is talking to African Americans. Just check out his social media.

Point me to any employee who ever worked around Fitch (in any of her Barbour-appointed positions) who 'likes, admires, respects or supports her'. I'll wait.

9:20 You are correct. The state flag has nothing to do with the office he seeks. Yet, he was determined to try to make it an issue. Suppose Chick Fil A said "If you want chicken, you must sign a card saying you are against abortion and gay marriage. Otherwise, no chicken." Now, I know Andy wants a new flag, but it's unlikely he wants it more than the owners of Chick Fil A want to see an end to murdering babies and marrin homosexuals. The difference is, Chick Fil A knows what they want, but they aren't completely stupid about it. So, yes Andy's decision to make the flag an issue speaks to his basic intelligence and his political intelligence. Both ARE requirements of the job he is seeking.

Anonymous said...

Ha!!! Like the name Barney Fife for AT as it fits him so well and I am using it going forward. Andy looks like he has lost his mind. He really does not look well and is acts crazy. What kind of intelligent person bashes our republican President and thinks he should be rewarded by republicans? This is absolutely stupid!!! 7:36pm would have you believe that only Barney Fife is intelligent and that all who like the historical MS flag are unintelligent. Wow, Barney does sound like Hillary Clinton. So I guess the historical crowd in MS are Deplorable s to Barney Fife and his bunch of good ole boys. And I went to the old tweets and Barney Fife has lost his mind, he is an idiot and I plan to start posting these everywhere. He is not a Mississippian anymore, just trace the money and look at this tweet from Barney! Guess he wants Ohio's Flag too!

After Kasich won the Ohio primary, Taggart tweeted that Kasich and Ohio "might have saved the nation".

Anonymous said...

In the scheme of things ... what should be the most important factors for voters to consider in determining who to vote for in the Run Off election for AG. Andy’s initial support of Kasich or Lynn’s poor job performance as Treasurer? Her habitual absences and lack of attention to the job which resulted in an embarrassing mess for Governor Bryant to clean up after she forgot to make the state’s bond payments TWICE? Apparently, Taggart, a lifelong Republican, now supports Trump and why shouldn't we pay attention to Lynn’s acceptance of 100’s of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Democratic Plaintiff Lawyers? Has anyone gone back and compared the two candidates voting records? Has anyone reviewed Lynn’s campaign finance report expenses over the last eight years? Let’s put these candidates in the spotlight and ask them to appear together and answer relevant questions from the media and the public. Let’s see how they stand up and present themselves in a public forum. Why would any candidate for the Attorney General not be willing to present their views and debate issues important to all Mississippians?

Anonymous said...

Lynn is an empty suit. She is the only candidate in any statewide election who can give a 10 minute speech without one memorable line. Just a bunch of "we need to all work together" bs.
She is an embarrassment to all women for hiding in her office without being willing to debate. She looks weak and not ready to be Mississippi's top lawyer. She would be eaten alive in court.
Would her hero Donald Trump be proud of how she has dodged debating her opponent? Just because she had her picture made with him don't make her like him.

Anonymous said...

She won't debate, but, hopefully if she does, we won't have the same junior-level democrat hacks at TV stations crafting the questions.

Hint: We do not need to know from these two what their opinion is on Jackson streets, the state flag, jobs in the delta, federal enforcement of immigration laws, how they think PERS can survive or whether they support Donald Trump. The job is much too serious to waste a debate on those silly damned inquiries.

Obviously people who come up with these questions have zero clue as to the duties of jobs so they just open the stock can of questions that even Miss Pennsylvania could answer. She's for world peace and the elimination of hunger.

Anonymous said...

When you say, "Miss Pennsylvania", your sexist voice is heard loud and clear. Go back to the 1950s with your racism, sexism and Barney Fife (got my gun and bullet). You are a pig! We know what your team is made of!

Andy Taggart was chief of staff for Governor Kirk Fordice during the first term of the Fordice governorship. During that four years, Fordice was generally effective and had some legislative and policy victories. Although it was hard to keep the Governor focused, Taggart at least was successful in reining him in enough to allow him some successes in policy. Contrast this to the second four year term, after Andy left, when Fordice was out of control and embarrassing the state on an almost weekly basis. He had no policy or legislative success during that last term.

Anyone who ran the executive branch successfully under the volcanic Gov. Kirk Fordice can easily handle the AG position. So, I'll forgive Andy for other mistakes (exit from supervisor race, Trump skeptic) and vote for him.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
