Read & Weep: State GDP Lags

Mississippi had the sixth-sluggish economy from 2017 to 2018 out of fifty states The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis stated the dismal findings in State GDP report issued Wednesday.

Unfortunately, Mississippi ranked last among all Southeastern states from 2015 to 2018.   The report is posted below.

Remain calm...All is well.

Sluggish, my ass! Not a damned one of us who is either happily employed or successfully retired gives a shit and we've been cruising right along. Pay no attention to damned reports like that.

You'll also notice that cemetery plots are becoming more unavailable if you want a Wednesday burial. Don't fall for the bullshit. You can still find a pineapple milk shake in most cities.

But, you can look for the regular dooms-dayers on here like Pitiful Pander to tell us the fucking sky is falling. And if HE doesn't, Kingfish will.

Phil Bryant said in a public talk that there is no brain drain in Mississippi.

There is only one reason we are lagging the surrounding states....Mississippians are taking themselves, their families and their money to those other states for a better life. And I don't blame them.

But TATER is going to save us all and grow Mississippi....

Or not... lol

Yes. Mississippi has it's shares of problems. One which is the education system. Unless you live in NE Jackson or parts of Madison you will always remain lower middle class or poor. It's really unfortunate that we provide such little opportunity to our youth. I moved to NE Jackson from Massachusetts 6 years ago. My first thought was why in the crap do my neighbors send there son and daughter to a Northeast birding school. Well, after seeing the schools here I knew the answer. It's almost like college is for athletics only. Very odd!!! What about progress and I'm not talking about the state flag.

This is Philbilly and Tater Tot running our state in the ground, while they spew bullshit about what a great state we are and pick stupid battles to distract from real problems. Love this state.

Anonymous said...

No doubt it must be sluggish because we haven't jacked up taxes high enough and gone way deeper on the giveaways. While we're at it we must, must, must work harder to chase away employers. That always pumps up a state's GDP.

3:40, just wait until the momentum created by Sen. Cochran runs out, and you'll see what a state economy looks like when the federal money spigot dries up.

Tate gonna fix it.

Tho since he’s been Lt Gov with a solid GOP legislature, I’m unclear what additional powers the office of governor will provide him to bring prosperity to the state.

With no disrespect to Phil and Tate, but they are a great example of the brain drain. In other states they could not be elected dog catcher but they are our best. 90% of our brightest leave the State each year after college.A few stay home but fewer each year. Our numbers are so poor for we have too many that are unproductive people. Nothing will change this trend; been in place way too long.

"My first thought was why in the crap do my neighbors send there son and daughter to a Northeast birding school."

My first guess is so that the kids learn the difference between "there" and "their" and use them correctly. Little things like that matter to employers.

“Jim Hood won’t fix the economy, but I will”...Tater

Wait a minute, hasn't Tater been more involved in MS’s current economy policy than the state’s top law enforcement officer?

Hmm....let’s compare: the state’s top legislator, who makes the actual policy, VERSUS the AG, who enforces those laws.......

Yea, let’s blame the enforcer and not the creator.

We don’t work together.

In the old days whites and blacks helped each other and more was done for the poor. It was almost like Christians doing things.

Now it’s separate, unequal, and hateful.

For all the Tater/Phil haters, many probably paid, that want to complain that over the last eight years Mississippi hasn't increased from 50th to be in the top 10, hold on a minute. Unlike some states (NY is a great example with all its advantages) that are moving down, at least MS is moving in the right direction and by this measurement we are no longer 50th but now 44th. Improvement - little, yes. But considering what has gone on for the 100 years prior to this century and where we started from, this ain't terrible. (And, of course, never said because it just isn't right to bring it up, the demographics of our state don't help when trying to make any improvements.)

It won’t matter if Tate, Waller or Hood wins, this won’t turn around until we have a metro area where young people
And families want to move and outside companies want to put jobs.

Anonymous said...

Tough news for the GOP. Build a wall around this trash state.

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute 7:58, we are 44th in exactly what? If we had moved up from 50 in anything Phil and Tate would have blown up the airwaves.

Anonymous said...

Let's all remember if the federal government was to cut Mississippi off, it would have to be annexed by the four neighbor states. If Tater is elected he will probably piss them off and they might just do it.

This is a culture problem. We are more concerned with athletic departments at our local schools that we lose focus on issues such as vocations and looking out for each person and not just pushing everyone into attending universities. It's a small mentality this state has.

We need more cheap farm land and more mules to plow it. Our leaders could relate to our economic status with a pencil and paper.

Anonymous said...

8:40 - Not that you can, but please tell us the last time young people and businesses wanted to move to Jackson.

Multiple Choice: 1959....1967....1971....none of the above....all of the above.

Blame the GOP all you want, but many of the states with strong GDP have GOP leadership. I'm not saying Phil and Tate are great (they aren't), but many leave MS because of the danger of Jackson and the third world nature of it. If anything, blame Lumumba, Stokes, Judge Green, etc. Madison is an oasis in an otherwise impoverished state. I am in my 20's and have moved out of state where I will stay.
All that said, I do think Bill Waller will address concerns and help move MS forward. You Mississippians need to elect him.

Anonymous said...

Lower our GDP?
JIM HOOD WON’T... BUT I WILL.

All that said, I do think Bill Waller will address concerns and help move MS forward. You Mississippians need to elect him.

You know nothing about Waller on which to provide a recommendation.

I think Bill Waller will improve our state in many ways. Reeves is an egotistical, mean-spirited, little man. We can do much better. Vote Waller!

People leave here and don't come back because our largest employer is the government and it is run by idiots who put their campaign contributors, relatives and mistresses in every available job opening, regardless of whether they know how/want to work. I've repeatedly seen high caliber talent in their 30s and 40s come here and then leave in disgust after they were frozen out by the Mafia of Dunces and passed over in favor of Rep. Jo Bob's idiot nephew.

Our politicians might give lip service to brain drain, but they absolutely depend on it to stay in office. No one with any sense would tolerate this Boss Hog/Jerry Fallwell clown show we call leadership. We've got government by the morons for the morons, and anyone who tries to do anything different is going to be run out of town.

Rod Knox said...

I'll vote for you 11:42. Hell, I'll throw a few dollars your way to campaign. Just run for something. Anything. The Boss Hogg/Jerry Fallwell team will continue to keep the state at the bottom of the pit with the average Mississippian scrambling to get by until the media and press drop their support of the GOOD OLE BOYS/DIXIE MAFIA.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
