He's white, so no bail, no blessings.

I mean, I didn't realize that the 1700 block of myrtle was even considered part of Belhaven anymore...

No McLaurin on that street according to property records although there is a Vicki Pierce. Herman Jew and the famous dental student Jack Magee are the neighbors.

@8:10 AM - It was either Flowood or The Belhaven...

" the famous dental student Jack Magee "

uh, define "famous"

never heard of him

Dude was a legend over at North State Street.

Sometimes a person doesn't let you just walk away. Other times, that person is determined to have an argument and gets even more mad if he or she doesn't get one.

I just hate how they refer to a 74 year old man as "elderly". Such a bigoted statement.

You think at that age people would chill out.
Crazy World!
Crazy Peoples!
Why can't we all just get along?
It takes my whole day just to make enough money to put food on the table much less get in a spat over not getting any sex ual love. The elderly lady was just too demanding.

Lives at 1724 Myrtle. Sad situation and big trouble.

8:10 a.m., why would you say that? Myrtle is the last street in that part of Belhaven before I-55, running from Riverside Drive to Laurel Street, just like Devine St., Howard St., etc.

@ 8:57 Hold on a second. I'm 74 and I'm plenty elderly. I feel awful most of the time. Time was when a girl looked away as we passed in a hallway or on the beach I knew she was only pretending to not have noticed. Now they really do not notice.

As for shooting his girl friend. I only wish there was passion like that left in my "romantic" relationship.

Even more interesting is the fact that it happened just before 8 p.m. tonight.

Weird shit in The Belhaven.

Could be renters, of course.

Is that the Hugh McLaurin that practiced law in Clinton years ago? Kind of a conspiracy theorist kind of guy. He made me very uneasy.

Anonymous said...

The guy could have mental impairment, which would explain why he thought he was being attacked.

Just imagine knowing your great grandma is shacking up with some old man. He must either have a lot of money or had a big, uh, ....car.
It was rumored that you could hear Tommy James singing "My Baby Does The Hanky Panky" from that house.

I always bring up gun control and people yell about specifics so here ya go: senior citizens wanting to own firearms (or drive) should be required to take mental competency exams. If this ends up being an issue of dementia or senility then its 100% preventable.

Crap

That "My baby does the Hanky Panky" is a little more than I can envision in this situation!! But it is funny.

12:19, I'm 70. I live in Belhaven. I own a couple of guns. I drive.

And you, based on what, think I need to take a mental competency exam?

This guy was 74. Yes, he might have had mental issues. But the fact that he was 74 is not indicative that he should be cast along with all others into a pool that you assume have mental issues.

Just exactly at what age do you think your 'testing' should be instituted? And how often should one have to be examined?

Should we assume that whatever your age is should not be considered as possibly need to be tested?

So now some say we should lose our God given rights once we reach a certain age? Motor vehicle operation is not covered in the Constitution or Bill Of Rights jackwagon .. please use a dictionary and learn just what the definition of Unalienable is!

Both of them had been married a number of times each. She was a cat lady. Apparently she had btw 25 and 50 cats. Terrible way to go. I’ve heard a lot of nice comments about her.

to 9:15am ... if earning a living 'takes up your whole day" , what you doing on this site?

You should be mentally examined for living in Belhaven. So many better places north of you and across the river. Enjoy that ever increasing crime rate because you live in proximity to the ghetto.

Myrtle Street is very much a part of the Belhaven neighborhood. Great neighborhood! "The Belhaven" is a building on North State Street.

Just heard on WAPT that Hugh McLaurin was given a $200,000 bond. Would he still be allowed to have a gun in his possession?

Anonymous said...

Or..it could be that she WAS attacking him.

74elderly??? Really? I am older, work at least 50 hours a week, have a concealed carry permit, jog a couple miles several times a week and play softball. 80 is the new 50. I feel great and don't like it when 'elderly' is used to describe someone when you don't know that someone. I have been blessed and hope to continue my lifestyle. A great wife for nearly 60 years has played a big part in my life.

3:37, I have no problems with my continued living in Belhaven. Have no desire to move to Flowood, Ridgeland, Madison, etc. Move out into the country on 100 acres with a nice small lake -,I'm in. But you can keep your happy self across the river and enjoy it if you like - in my world, bits to each his own.

Hugh was never the most stable of people, but he really went downhill after being robbed blind by the attorney and investment broker in charge of his trust.

To 5:45 PM on May 16.

The police have never mentioned anything that would indicate that Margaret Pierce actually attacked Hugh McLaurin. Only that he had "believed" he was being attacked.

He was charged with murder.

Anonymous said...

He had been known to be violent in the past and family and friends had begged her to leave. He also had known mental illness. She had only been married once before; not sure about him. She was a small framed person so it seems unlikely that she would attempt to attack anyone much less him being as large as he is. He is where he needs to be; only a little too late.

Anonymous said...

"He was charged with murder."

So what? That has nothing to do with whether or not he's actually guilty of murder. It's the job of a defense attorney to establish the belief that he felt his life was in danger....not the job of the police.

Anonymous said...

Y'all better move to The Fondren where it is much safer. Belhaven is so violent.

!0:12am

You hit the nail on the head...he was robbed by an attorney and broker of a substantial trust. They flew the coup. No matter the lady's size, if there was a past history of violence, his criminal lawyer will likely bring that out. Then the picture may change when more facts are known. He may be different...He is 74...he may be suspicious of authority...he may have feared for his life, then fired a gun. Everyone seems entrenched on the right to own guns --- the Constitution is like life ---- you can't pick and choose only the parts you like. He is entitled to a jury that will hear facts. In the meantime, I so enjoy this page and the comments. I hope one day, a loved one of your own is not sitting in a lawyer's office in need of their Constitutional protections being applied to a tragedy. I also feel for the family of the lady --- no one deserves the pain and hurt life, at times, chooses to deliver.

Exactly where IS Hugh McLaurin right now? Didn't he bond out of jail?

And for the financial safety of everyone, what are the names of the attorney and investment counselor who robbed him blind?

Anonymous said...

"He was charged with murder."

That statement is just a statement of fact. The police CHARGED him with murder. What a jury will decide is another question.

Anonymous said...

Where is he now? There’s been a couple of comments concerning his trust. Obviously you're very aware of his situation as I am too and know him personally. Looking for contact info on him. Thanks

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
