Shooting at Northpark (Updated)

Check on your people. There was a shooting in the food court at Northpark Mall this afternoon.

Law enforcement sources said two groups of yutes were in the food court when one yute bumped into a yute from the other tribe. The assaulted yute aggressively verbalized his grievance in street vernacular.  Fisticuffs between the two groups immediately ensued.

A yute pulled out a gun and shot a yute in the opposing group.  Only one round was fired. The two groups fled - but not before picking up the bullet casing.

Unfortunately, the cameras in the food court do not record.

Stay tuned for more information.

Update (8/13/23): The Ridgeland Police Department issued the following statement.

We received multiple calls in regards to a shooting at Northpark. This occurred in the food court area this evening. It appears that all involved are from the Yazoo City area. Law enforcement from that area is assisting our investigators with locating witnesses and other parties involved. This is an ongoing investigation and we will update all media outlets as information becomes available. One person was injured in this incident but is expected to fully recover. Ridgeland Police Department is actively investigating this incident. If there is anyone who has information in reference to this incident please contact us at 601-355-TIPS or 601-856-2121.

Taking the same course as metrocenter. Slowly but surely dying. It’s no longer a mall for all tribes. Thanks Jackson.

I live in NE Jackson and I don’t go to north park mall due to the ridgeland apartment dwellers fighting there

I haven’t been through that food court in over 15 years, probably more. Even then it was headed south. I’m surprised this isn’t a more frequent occurrence.

The “perpetrator” apparently had enough experience to recover the bullet casing. Does anybody out there think this was his “first rodeo”? I can wait to take my children to that mall.

The security cameras in a shopping center don't record. Wow.

Just introducing Ridgeland to the product Rukia is selling.

Judging by the age of my oldest child, it has been about 30 years since I darkened the doors of that place. It is a minor miracle that more of this does not occur there.

And what's with the re-do? (I haven't been there, since Rainbow Whole Foods moved there and died a second death) But all the fun Postmodern colorful stuff had been torn-off, replaced with a whitewashed NOTHINGNESS. At that moment, the 'Nothingness Look' was trendy. But I can't imagine the public's seeing it as being.... well.... ANYTHING.

Remember when TV screens would turn a greyish-white, when nothing was being transmitted? That's how it felt, walking through the re-done mall: like being trapped inside a blank TV screen.

Have they recently redone the redo? Does the place look like something, again? If anyone went there, anymore, would anybody care? Does anybody even go onto County Line Road, anymore? I'm imagining a zombie movie street, with newspapers blowing-around - except newspapers have been gone for so long, now, I don't know what would be blowing down the street.

I bought a suit at Dillards in Northpark a few weeks ago, and I had it altered at a family-owned alteration shop in the mall just outside of Dillards. It was a good experience. I hate to hear about the shooting, but I probably won’t stop going there. I dont usually go to the food court, but I’m gonna get a bite to eat in there if I’m hungry, I can promise you that.

Just amazing how Chuck can muster his forces to attack jxn water and totally ignore all the crime that is occurring daily. Maybe the feds need to take control of this situation and send Chuck and his new world order to the house.

How to handle this problem is have security officers at the all the doors. If you are under 18 years old, you are not allowed inside the mall without parent. The city of Ridgeland needs to crack down on this before it really turns into another Metro Center.

As for Rukia she needs to keep here sorry ass in Hinds County. We don't play your games up here in Madison County.

No camera’s in food court??
Good Lawd, there needs to be at least 6-7
in that area!

Anonymous said...

Dillards still has good stuff you can afford. Other than that, no reason to go to the mall. It is shame.

Anonymous said...

Malls are still a thing?

Jackson went to shit when Diamond Jim’s and Aladdin’s Castle closed.

Anonymous said...

I assure you my peeps are not in a food court at Northpark.

Anonymous said...

Cameras in food court that don’t record? Then why are they there? The clowns who operate the mall are really just screaming to people with money to stay far away from there.

So much for the gun-free zone.

Tico's will be the next to close in that neighborHOOD. The food has gone to crap also.

Just five years ago, the mall underwent a multi-million-dollar facelift.

King Gene Magee touted the project as a really neat thing for the city but is upset there's no bike trail through the outdoor green space and leading into the corridors of the mall.

"Old people should be able to ride their bicycles through the mall without all these damned pedestrians getting in the way", somebody said Gene said. "And elevators...they need a bigger, dedicated elevator for bicycles".

I remember a facebook interraction with the new girl who was hired as mall-mouthpiece. She assured me of good things a'comin'. And she said ramped up safety was a major objective.

I wonder how long she lasted.

We go to North Park quite often and feel very safe there. Most of you have no idea what it is like there.

Mall location is Ridgeland, Mississippi not Jackson, Mississippi .. Crime must be address in all locations. Let’s stop pointing fingers and make the commitment to unite as one to making efforts to handling the young offenders ..If one of the shooter had enough skill to pick up the bullet casting then he has the same skills to be a future criminal investigator. Why not create a metro group of volunteers to address the crime in Hinds, Madison and Rankin .

Anonymous said...

Last time I checked, Northpark is in Ridgeland, Madison County. This is all about Ridgeland not Jackson as we know time and time again that crime spillover does
not happen-according to the experts here on JJ.

Another prime example of a progressive America.

Madison county has certainly taken a turn for the worst. Once a nice place to live and shop, it’s now just too dangerous for me.

The people involved are all from yazoo city

@7:07
What makes you feel more safe? The packs of pint-sized illegal alien males soliciting single women? Or the packs of young unemployed thug wannabes aggressively mean-muggin, sagging and swaggering around in the middle of the work day? Neither of these groups are doing any real commerce. They are simply gathering where they believe they can observe and harass actual shoppers.

"We go to North Park quite often and feel very safe there. Most of you have no idea what it is like there. "

This article tells us everything we need to know about "what it is like there". Go peddle your delusions and lies somewhere else.

@8:15, just be honest and say that you’re scared of black and brown people. It’s pretty clear from your comment.

"Why not create a metro group of volunteers to address the crime in Hinds, Madison and Rankin"

How utterly silly. The only group of volunteers who can address crime are the parents of these children. But they're too late if the child is past seven years of age.

Suppose you tell us, 7:20 a.m., just what can a group of volunteers do to reduce juvenile crime. List just two things. Well, how about just ONE?

Anonymous said...

So, the update (above) says the yoot groups (gangs) are from Yazoo City.

Hmmm...According to my map-reading skills, The Madison-Ridgeland area is squshed in between Jackson and Yazoo-Canton-Durant.

What's that song? Nowhere to run to, nowhere to hide.

August 13, 2023 at 10:22 AM, of course that's what your progressive eyes read. From my position, they were pointing out problems, but don't let me interfere with your biased mental process. Carry on.

Anonymous said...

One gang is from Yazoo and the opposing side is from Jackson.

Anonymous said...

State Legislators must change laws how Juveniles committing crimes are adjudicated in Mississippi. Need more bite in the law and making parents more accountable!

I know they won’t do shit until these little fools come knocking on their doors and their family member gets raped, robbed or killed!

Anonymous said...

@10:22
Stop making racist claims. The guy said nothing about race. Only your racist viewpoint made that assumption. Not all illegals are black or brown. Go to Chicago it’s overrun with polish illegals and Ukrainians as well. If you have a maid in Chicago they’re generally polish. So stop being stupid. You’re one small minded person.

Respectfully disagree with your comments about Tico's. Jack is carrying on the tradition Tico started and we have not had a bad dinner or bad service since Tico stepped down.

Wonder what "Top Golf" thinks about their decision to open in Ridgeland. Can hardly wait for the BIG ground breaking (sic).

Its always odd to me the way Jxn residents revel in the crime in other cities.
Residents get so angry at others for pointing out crime in Jxn, but they become gleeful when it happens to surrounding non-garbage cities.

I've had cavities before and yet I never felt the need to cheer when any of my loved ones suddenly got to experience similar tooth pain.

It really should be a catalyst for some soul-searching and self-reflection when you smile because others are forced to deal with the chaos that you willingly tolerate in your city.

Nobody I know walks in that mall anymore.

If you have a nice car - you will get car-jacked there.

No point even going to the Northpark food court since Kelly's Cajun Grill is no longer there.

@10:50pm Silly is an ugly usage of words when it comes to Parents and Volunteers getting together to address the youth crime problems. Keep your head and ideas in an underground hole where they will get no attention. No ideas no solutions. For your information a group was put in place 2015-2017 in Jackson did some good lack of funding it went into the history records. If you don't have any ideas to give keep your backward thinking to yourself.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
