Goons Plead Guilty to State Charges

The Goon Squad is pleading guilty to various state charges in Rankin County Circuit Court right now.  The hearing is live-streamed below.   An earlier post covered the state's prosecution and sentence recommendations.  The defendants agreed with the recommendations.

McAlpin

McAlpin stood before Judge Ratcliff in a dark green jump suit.  Duct tape covered the name of the detention center where he is housed so as to keep his location secret.  McAlpin pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution in the first degree  and conspiracy to hinder prosecution.  Attorney Aafram Sellers represents McAlpin.

Judge Ratcliff accepted the guilty plea and set sentencing "at a later date."  The unspecified sentencing date probably means the defendant is cooperating with law enforcement in other investigations.

Middleton

Flanked by attorney Carlos Tanner, former Rankin County Leftenent Jeffrey Middleton faced the state's justice.  Judge Ratcliff accepted Middelton's guilty plea for hindering prosecution in the first degree and conspiracy to hinder prosecution.  He will be sentenced at an unspecified date.

Prosecutor said he supervised Elward and Opike.  Middleton supervised the second shift and called it the Goon Squad.  Ah, this is the first time the Goon Squad term is applied to the whole shift and not just the five deputies and Richland police officer.   Middleton lied to MBI investigators and submitted false reports.

The details are just as sickening to hear as they were when first heard.  The cops took turns testing their tasers on the victims to see which taser was the strongest.  Shots fired near the victims to scare them.  The dildos, chocolate syrup, and eggs- symbols of torture instead of stupidity.  Threats to kill the victims if they told the truth.  The shot in the mouth.   Terror, terror, terror.

The Attorney General recommended the following sentences:

Hindering prosecution: 15 years with 7 years suspended.

Conspiracy: 5 years.

Dedmon

Dedmon was a narcotics investigator at RCSO.   A bill of information charges Dedmon with Burglary/Home invasion with intent to terrorize and Conspiracy to hinder prosecution.  It was Dedmon who aimed his pistol out of the back door and fired in an effort to intimidate Jenkins and Parker.  He told them to stay out of Rankin County.  It was Dedmon who poured milk and chocolate syrup all over the victims.  It was Dedmon who sanitized the crime scene.  The defendant also lied to MBI investigators and submitted a false report.  He filed false charges on the victims.  The Attorney General and defendant agreed to the following sentencing recommendations:

Home invasion: 15 years with 5 years suspended.

Conspiracy: 5 years

Attorney Michael Cory represents Dedmon.

Elward

Clad in irons, the strapping former deputy shuffled his way to the podium, accompanied by attorney Joe Holloman.   The state charged Elward with Aggravated assault with a firearm, Criminal home invasion to terrorize, and conspiracy.  The Attorney Generals submitted these recommendations to the Court:

Count 1: 20 years with 5 years suspended

Count 2: 15 years with 5 years suspended

Count 3: 5 years

Opdike

Clad in the traditional Dr. Suess-style jumper, Daniel Opdike waddled to the podium where his attorney, Jeff Reynolds, stood.  Opdyke pleads guilty to Hindering prosecution in the first degree and conspiracy to commit hindering prosecution in the first degree.  The defendant took part in beating, tasing, and kicking the victim in the ribs. Opdike mounted the dildo on the BB gun and attempted to use the dildo on the victims.

Sentence recommendation:

Hindering prosecution: 15 years with 10 years suspended.

Conspiracy: 5 years to serve.

Hartfield

Clad in a dark green jumper,  Joshua Hartfield shuffled into the courtroom, his head bent down in shame as cameras clicked away.   The state charges the former Richland police officer with hindering prosecution in the first degree and conspiracy to hinder prosecution.   The sentence recommendation is:

Hindering prosecution: 15 years with 10 years suspended.

Cospiracy: 5 Years.

The first charge will be classified as a crime of violence.

Attorneys Robert Lingold, Jr. and Victoria Giliam represent the defendant.

The Court took a short recess after dispensing with Hartfield.

Kingfish note: Keep in mind these are probably 50% crimes.

It’s a shame that there are limits on the judgments against these goons and their boss. They have destroyed lives, families, and careers. $500,000 would not be nearly enough to make me whole if I had been a victim. They have been a plague on the metro for too long. People have been saying for years that they plant evidence and abuse their power. I don’t think the chickens haven’t fully come home to roost.

Anonymous said...

@9:10 a.m. no monetary limits in a federal court civil rights case though.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure investigators are looking into other cases that involve the goon squad but I can't help but wonder if they are also withholding that sentencing to see if they can catch a bigger fish in the Rankin County sheriff's office. It's plausible to think that higher ups didn't know "step by step" what the goons were doing but there's no way they didn't know the group didn't exist.

To all Law Enforcement Personnel if you see or Hear something that you think is illegal inform your Supervisor via electronic communications. If it gets out of control and your Chain of Command turns a blind eye contact the FBI via electronic communications.

I know the aforementioned sounds elementary but if you are built for prison say nothing! What’s happening to these former Deputies can happen to you!

This is some serious shigity!

The Goon Squad are the ones scanning the license plates catching money returning Westbound and dope traveling Eastbound on I-20. They were dealing with millions of dollars of confiscated money and property.

Anonymous said...

The judge should ask the goon squad, while under oath, if the sheriff knew about their existence. If they lie, all plea agreements are off the table

Anonymous said...

Got a question. Why does a judge sentence people to so many years in prison then suspend years from that sentence immediately after? Why not just give them the first sentence and forget about suspending any of it?

Anonymous said...

How much of that money seized on I-20 actually made it to the sheriff's evidence vault?

Anonymous said...

The High Sherriff did not need the MMA/Fewtball Hewo Wes Shivers to wear his Cellophane drawers at Flag Island Saturday.

Anonymous said...

Any statement from Bryan Bailey other than “I, Sheriff Bryan Bailey, take full responsibility for years of neglecting my duty to protect The Citizens of Rankin County from my criminally abusive deputies, do hereby resign” is a waste of all our time!

So many more people were affected by this than the two men who brought the world’s attention to the RCSO.
You don’t just get to hire some outsiders and wash your hands of the last decade.

Anonymous said...

Thank god the sheriff didn’t do another bogus ass press conference!

Anonymous said...

11:08
I have heard the same story! Apparently after a big cash bust is made there is a phone call to one person then the deputy takes the money to that one person . The interdiction guys are getting tired of being out in a bad situation .

Anonymous said...

@955 and @1108

The Interstate guys have nothing to do with the Goon Squad, to say they are is absolutely reckless. Every penny that is seized is turned in. if that wasn't the truth believe me the Feds would be all over it.

Anonymous said...

So when are we going to get rid of qualified immunity for police officers? I think the RCSD is not sorry about torturing two people, only sorry that they got caught.

Anonymous said...

I am sure a Federal judge knows what questions to ask. If anyone thinks they can do this job; then fill out an application!

Anonymous said...

Wonder if Bailey has seen the.Wes Shivers video
on Jackson Jambalaya??????

Anonymous said...

Why are their lawyers even there?

Anonymous said...

*

Shame on the mess!

Anonymous said...

These goons had numerous code words for their unlawful practices which they obviously had used before. There's no telling how many other similar or worse crimes these guys have committed and how many other LEO's are involved. Some are still out there.

Anonymous said...

I want to know what was going through the minds of these sick f*cks while they were doing what they did.

Anonymous said...

The sheriff said the system of checks and balances did its job. That system starts with him.

Anonymous said...

Seriously, who gets proceeds from book and movie rights? Has this been narrowed in the litigation/judgments?

Anonymous said...

The facts are sickening. The damage is irreversible. Accountability should be held from the top down meaning the Sheriff should resign. Let the citizens heal and start anew.

Anonymous said...

"We have asked for assistance from outside agencies and contracted with outside firms to evaluate us, make recommendations, and conduct training. These actions are taken to prevent anything like January’s tragedy from ever happening again."

So, this is the level of malfeasance it took to trigger an internal review of the RCSO? Time to clean house.

Anonymous said...

11:21
I am LEO and have heard similar stories about RCSO.

Anonymous said...

The Chief Goon Bailey did not write that CYA press release. He isn't that articulate.

Anonymous said...

I notice that the lamestream media is now referring to the criminals as the "Rankin County 6" instead of the "Goon Squad." I suggest the latter is entirely appropriate.

Anonymous said...

Now with this behind her, the AG can pursue those Chinese indictments.

Anonymous said...

@11:21 AM

How do we know who is and isn’t Goon Squad?
They are all getting rid of their challenge coins
Was there a “Goon Squad” registry?
The only identifiable trait is they all dressed like wannabe special forces instead of wearing normal RCSO uniforms.
That’s what we see out on the interstate is guys with beards in SpecOps gear.

How do we know the difference?

Anonymous said...

I just returned from Greece and the news channel playing in our hotel showed video of the Federal hearing and also Bryan Bailey telling Maggie the Meek that he was lied too.

It was extremely embarrassing to see that and recognize those faces.

Anonymous said...

@12:09
This isn’t about really cleaning house. It is about CYA and distracting and denial. More evidence that the rot is already reached the top at the RCSO.

But just like Niknar loves to say about Jackson…. Y’all voted for him! So y’all get what y’all deserve!

Anonymous said...

And the readers want to punish the Todd Mardis guy.

Anonymous said...

Deputy Christian Dedmon this sort of thing has to run in his bloodline heard he's related to Deryl Dedmon who was convinced of a hate crime for running over the black guy at Metro Inn in Jackson years ago

Anonymous said...

So, McAlpin could be cooperating? To tell them what? How many years he has been the ringleader of this crap? That piece of crap has been doing this kind of thing for a very long time, likely longer than some of these guys have been in law enforcement. I am anxious to see what his sentence will be. He deserves to rot.

Anonymous said...

This is the biggest SHAM I've ever witnessed. I've seen trespassers get more time than these Assholes. Shooting, beating, tasing and raping black men mean nothing in Rankin County. I'm ashame to tell someone I'm from Rankin County. This is not the 1st time for these Goons. Nothing will change until the Chief Goon is gone. Bailey was trained by the Original Goon Jones from Simpson Co. I hope the Feds throw the keys away.

Anonymous said...

Rankin Judges rarely ever rule for suspended sentences and if so, not for violent crimes. It Rankin stays true to their motto, then these POS Perverts should not have suspended time. If a little weed/meth/bad checks do not get concessions, then nor should those filthy excuse of humans be afforded the same. One of the cowards got off damn near free when he’s the largest problem with plants and using peoples houses as his playground for years under the protection of his dishonorable badge. Those boys knew to plead but Rankin & Madison do not afford defendants the constitutional right to Pretrial Motions; Defendants either take the deal the judges allow the ADAs to give or they plead open and that means max sentence. Quite the effective, unconstitutional way to move the docket; don’t you think? This is only the lid to the can of worms. Where are the rest? Where is the female officer who played these scandalous games? She’s out there. Somebody get the mop bucket!

Anonymous said...

Everybody keeps praising the feds like the goons were not literally working a FBI task force. I have to assume the FBI was just as willingly blind as the sheriff to their antics until it was politically untenable to do so.

Anonymous said...

I feel like we are going to have to march on the courthouse lawn to get Bailey out.
Clearly this idiot is STILL not getting the picture that Rankin residents of ALL color are done with him.

He needs to resign. Now.

Anonymous said...

Sure seems like a slap on the wrist considering other sentences in Rankin County for much less violent crimes or not committed by people in positions of authority. Definitely has the appearance of being swept under the rug as quickly and quietly as they can.

Anonymous said...

9:10 -- correct. Money just can't make up for some things. But, I will tell you that nobody is going to be collecting civil judgments here in all likelihood. It's one thing to be awarded a civil judgment. It's another to successfully collect it.

Anonymous said...

Their actions are a side effect of the unwinnable war on drugs.
Nothing will change until we abolish civil asset forfeiture, qualified immunity and equitable sharing.
Folks in Rankin County will ultimately have to pay for their crimes.
Enjoy your tax increase.

Anonymous said...

Why were some charged with different things and given different sentences?
Aren't they all just as guilty at the same level?
3 guys go to a bank with the intent to commit armed robbery. 2 guys go in and while inside, shoots and kills a teller. The driver said he knew they were going to rob the bank, but didn't know about any shooting.
Aren't they all equally guilty of robbery AND murder??

Anonymous said...

McAlpin must be spilling his guts on fellow officers, and hopefully the sheriff.

Future comment? "McAlpin did not hang himself."

Civil suits - it's unlikely that the Rankin Six have big assets. Sure, some home equity but that's pennies on what the judgements will be. Their families will be homeless. Nice job goons.

The deep pockets are...wait for it... Rankin County Government, aka taxpayers and insurance.

Anonymous said...

So does Senate Bill 2543 mean that Bryan Bailey doesn’t have to answer for his lack of leadership for the prior years of abuses that his deputies committed by planting guns and drugs on victims?

What about the shootout that happened in Pelahatchie where a hopeless, mentally ill man was executed by Bailey and his deputies firing over 100 shots into him?

Can we investigate that?

What happens to a person’s psyche when you have seen time and again that there is no justice for you because Bryan Bailey and his Goon Squad will frame you. And then a Rankin County judge will convict you? And you have no voice unless a civil rights attorney takes your case to the national media?

Anonymous said...

4:19
To your point about the pelahatchie shooting. Judge Henry Wingate publicly admonished Bailey and took his police immunity away due to excessive force. He ll cough up personally on that one , assuming they are able to find his assets .

Anonymous said...

"And you have no voice unless a civil rights attorney takes your case to the national media?"

Truth!

Anonymous said...

Bryan Bailey can’t resign. What is his education and skill level? Does he have a college education? What is he qualified for besides being a rent-a-cop in the parking garage of a state agency downtown? He will have to be removed. He won’t willingly step down because he has nothing else to fall back on.

Anonymous said...

This case is sickening but to knowledgeable persons. The attorneys for the victim has stated this is the first time in Mississippi that white law enforcement officers have been held accountable for felony assault on a black person. Surely this is not true. How accurate is that statement.

Anonymous said...

All because a childhood friend of one of the victims invited them over to her home. If only she wasn’t white!

Anonymous said...

In 64 the fbi had 200 field agents in Mississippi and they couldn’t find gun man who actually did the killings so they hired Greg Scarpa the Mad Hatter who was a notorious hitman. Scarpa did what the “G” man couldn’t do. Look it up. It’s public info. Scarpa was also hired by the fbi to find Vernon Dahmers killer in Hattiesburg. Look that up. It ain’t nice. Dahmer didn’t deserve the death he got but the fbi couldn’t find the killer because they weren’t experienced enough. What I want to say is there are members of law enforcement that think they are above the law. The fbi is one of those. I’m not going to comment on Rankin. Rankin has been an issue for 60 + years. Torrence was a dirty scoundrel. Bailey is not near what Torrence was. Torrence had people “exterminated” and did it without cause. If you don’t think I’m telling the truth, ask the older people in the county. Things may have not been run like you snowflakes want it but let me say this. Drug dealers deserve the death penalty. They have brought death and destruction to families. Argue that. I dare you. The problem wa that there were 6 people. It should have been 1. So unprofessional.

Anonymous said...

All y’all bashing these men and the sheriff must REALLY want your daughters strung out on dope and total slaves to a drug dealer pimp.

Just because these two weren’t caught with anything doesn’t mean that 90% of the time these dope boys aint getting your daughters hooked and then turning them out as hoes.

They literally have an entire genre of music that celebrates this activity as some sort of masculine triumph over the civilized world.

I loved the court room perp walk on the news at 5, including wearing "dancing chains" and waist chain/cuffs. They were wearing a mixture of jail duds so probably housed at multiple gray bar hotels. The jail names were covered up with duct tape.

Anonymous said...

Bailey needs to step down! We need a new sheriff! Lack of leadership and accountability within the department at the least. And is taxpayers continue to pay him? Not for a job well done. We are also paying his wife. Wake up county taxpayers and supervisors!!

Anonymous said...

It's fine time Shad ( the next governor ) makes a public records request on patches or uniforms ordered by the taxpayers and citizens of Rankin County, that the so called ( Goon squad ) exists and it's known by the Sheriff and lets put this's to rest, and that my friends is the rest of the story.

Anonymous said...

Bailey is toast. A lot of “singing” has already happened. DOJ/Feds are not going away anytime soon. Civil litigation is going to be brutal. A huge embarrassment for Rankin County/MS. The ruckus this will cause for every criminal case involving these former officers on the horizon is only the beginning. Yet, still lil Bryan is clearly clueless. Only going to get A LOT a worse, Sheriff Napoleon is going to be eaten alive.

Anonymous said...

Maybe if Rankin Co. Circuit Court Rule of Criminal Procedure 1.2, subsection (we don’t grant suppression motions or offer plea deals after one is filed) was repealed, just maybe the checks and balances would work as intended, or at least better than it does now out there…and don’t let Bailey bare all the blame. Judges have the capability of granting motions to suppress, and ADAs have the right to tell their officers they’re full of caca. However, that is not often practiced in Rankin so it seems.

7:00 p.m., your backwards-thinking, racist rhetoric -- and, quite frankly, you aren't welcome in my Mississippi. Most of us have moved on. Since you obviously haven't, why don't you keep your mouth shut and stop embarrassing yourself and the rest of the state?

Anonymous said...

Attention all Rankin County S.O. personnel. If you intend on playing " Russian Roulette " with any suspects, then please do not do so with a semi-automatic handgun. If you do not have a round in the pipe, you can point the gun and pull the trigger and nothing happens. But then when you rack the slide and pull the trigger again, well, you should have known what was coming.
It really does not give the person that you are doing this to much of a chance, does it ? I wonder if Bailey is the one who taught the " Goon Squad " that they could play Russian Roulette with a Semi-Auto ?

@12:27 AM

Want to see backwards thinking?
Look at the current state of Jackson.

6:26 pm: If street drug dealers deserve the death penalty, I sure hope you keep that same energy for Big Pharma.
I am sure you would be equally pleased as punch if the Goon's busted into the CEO of the company that knowingly got people hooked on Oxy then proceeded to sexually assaulted him and as you suggested...give him the death penalty?
After all, drug dealers deserve the death penalty.
And anyone with any intelligence would hold such entities even MORE liable than an idiot street drug dealer.

Personally, I think the moron adults who have no self control should take a bit of personal responsibly for seeking out the drug dealer that you want to execute.

Regardless, these men did not deserve this Goon Squad treatment. Full Stop. We have a judicial system for a reason and people like you only want retribution when its not aimed at you or your loved ones.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait for when Rankin SO deputies testify in court and the first question out of the defense attorney's mouth is "are you now or have you ever been a member of the GOON SQUAD?"

Anonymous said...

Yo Bailey, the FBI is coming for you, and soon. There's a federal indictment with your name on it in the hopper. The Biden administration needs to round up a few more southern white boys for campaign fodder.

Anonymous said...

And the AG, without investigation, concludes these are just a few bad apples. Has she investigated her personal MHP guard she had evict her father’s wife from her house? Wasting taxpayer dollars for concurrent sentences to whitewash her failings.

Anonymous said...

Y’all don’t need to move on. We can’t move on until Bryan Bailey has either resigned, is a federal penitentiary, or both!

Anonymous said...

Looks to me like some of the Goons should have looked into joining Weight Watchers.

Anonymous said...

These psycho rednecks need to be on the sex offender registry. Why were they not prosecuted for the gang rape?

Anonymous said...

I get so tired of hearing people say that drug dealers are responsible for people doing drugs. People do drugs because they like being high. Some people do drugs because they hate their lives. I have never used illegal drugs, even while I attended college. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. I do love a Bud Light occasionally, but I would never drink and drive. Also, I don't blame Blue Bell or the grocery strore or the truck driver for me eating too much Blue Bell ice cream. I blame me!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
