Remove "Interim" from JPD Interim Police Chief Joseph Wade's title. Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba named the interim chief to be the permanent chief of the Jackson Police Department today.
The City Council must confirm the appointment. Wade replaced former Chief James Davis.

What happened to the former chief? Catch me up.
Yep, and they are putting a $100,000+ "drone" into service, as apparently Chowke's "real time crime center" didn't take a bite out of crime, right?. It did however give some of hi$ people contract$ to in$tall $tuff.
Which one of his pal$ has the contract? Will the drone operator training be in Paris?
Nobody cares. Nothing will change for the better.
Kissing mayoral booty brings promotions.
Nice. Wonder if he will last longer than the others. Or longer than the Mayor's Public Works Directors.
Speaking of which - who is the Public Works (interim) director now? After the last guy bailed three weeks ago, haven't heard anything said abouot 'who's in charge' of that fiasco now.
3:53, do your own research. Let us know what you find out.
Chief James Davis retired.
This guy is actually qualified and doing well. Glad he’s here.
He’s not permanent UNTIL the council approves the appointment. Otherwise, he’s still interim.
State law is very clear on this.
Wade is a good guy but he’s the Captain of a sinking ship.
Great. Now that he’s serviced the mayor enough to get the job he can now settle in, do nothing and collect that moolah.
Give him a chance!
Recently heard his spiel in person. 100% Lumumba-speak by a guy wearing a uniform and badge. Knew within minutes while his gums were still flapping like that other guy's that nothing was going to change. His reaching out to the PDs of other municipalities? All window dressing.
The fact that Chowkie nominated him tells us he's willing to be the latest puppet. Boot licking - not competence - is the primary BFOQ to be a Lumumba Boy.
I don't know him. Wade may be a good man, and I hope he is. But being selected by Chowkie is a really damning sign.
I CANNOT WAIT for our piece of @HI%! "mayor" to be sent packing in the next election!! Can.Not.Wait!!!
He should be in jail for what he's done to this city!
This guy is actually qualified ...
Which implies that previous Chiefs this Mayor has hired were not qualified.
If Wade's predecessors were not qualified because the Executive doing the hiring was unable to recognize a candidate lacking the requisite qualifications, how the f*&k do you know that Wade is qualified now?
Chowke wouldn't have chosen him if he wasn't going to carry Chowke's water. Duh.
Hotter than a pepper sprout.
Wade is a good man and a qualified police officer who has spent his career trying to help the city. Like a previous poster said - give him a chance to do good work that can help (in my opinion, he's begun doing some noteworthy things.) I read so much here about how Kingfish is doing good reporting, that this site is the first and best at giving us news and discussing items of concern. It seems that readers/commenters could do their part, and lend credibility to this same site by offering comments that at least showed forethought or consideration instead of blanket negative statements or quick character assassinations. The statements so far only cheapen and DIScredit the supposed legitimacy of this blog.
Wade is all about Wade. He wants to be seen and is always looking for a camera. He will do whatever Lumumba tells him. JPD is lost. Collect that check Wade you won’t change a thing.
Wade is probably a pretty good guy. Wonder if anybody else would promote him to chief - but frankly, I don't care. Not sure if that demeans him even though he is now the chief of the largest city police force in the state (even with the fact that the state is having to supplement the force by almost a 50/50 split of officers - but I digress.)
Lumumba has appointed several good folks to be heads of departments during his six plus years - and every damn one of them has bailed from being a subject of his administration. (yes, Malembaka has not bailed yet, but he has only been there a little over a year; can't judge yet whether he will stay the term or find a reason to bail.)
This Lumumba administraiton is so similar to Donald J Trump's administraiton - Trump appointed several really good folks to work for him, lets start with his Chief of Staffs, head of EPA, NSAs, etc, and many Secretaies. BUt as soon as any of those fine people said "no" to the arrogant SOB, they were kicked to the curb.
Lumumba has followed in the Trump mold - but in his case the good appointees bailed before being kicked to the curb. They found that Lumumba wouldn't take their differing opinion (maybe the kush didn't approve and told Baby Chocke that he had to ignore those infidels); and once their opinion was no longer considered, they decided they didn't want to ride in that sinking boat any longer.
Many forget Baby Chocke's first CFO, he stayed less than a year - he found he didn't fit within the mold since he didn't look like or think lieke those across the street. Public Works directors? The holdover from Yarber (career engineer bailed and went to the private sector). Miller came in and tried to save the city, but wouldn't put up with the Mayor's hiding of the EPA notices from both the Council and the public. CAO Blaine? He stayed a couple of years but once offered a chance to move to DC he jumped ship realizing it was sinking quicker than his dashboard could save it. Police Chiefs? Planning Directors, even those that become PW Directors. And this pattern includes many more than just the directors - look at the PW staff directors, the Finance staff, etc. None of them stayed when they found out dissent was not allowed, or were allowed to stay when they questioned the kush leaders.
Wish Wade well. But the pattern left before him doesn't look good. Once he attempts to provide stats - required by law, a law he has sworn to uphold - the big boys will kick him to the curb along with the others.

Total CRAP.
August 22, 2023 at 10:18 PM, this website must really burn your ass. The fact that Kingfish allows a diversity of opinion seems to be your problem. Your opinion is supported by most totalitarian devotees, and is anti American. Ain't you something.
11:50pm Miller praised the current mayor when he resigned. Miller was excellent but HE talked about the problem with the plant when he arrived. He did get the theft of water (and it was employees working there when he arrived who were the thieves).
No doubt he was discouraged.
The people I know who have left cited the lack of community support and that the small but extraordinary gains made despite the resistance of political opposition to allow the other party to succeed and anything, (large or small), were ignored. Worse and every city employee was suspected of being an idiot or criminal. In other words, the divisive and hateful political rhetoric has infected our social lives and in some cases, health (which was cited in Miller's resignation). Also, cited were the lack of funds needed to "fix what is broken". Indeed, I talked at length to one highly qualified hire that came from a large city. They left ASAP because "the mission was impossible" in the political climate".
Now, I admit to not being certain you are correct about Trump until those who were in the administration and appalled described his behavior with specific examples to the media. The men you cite have not done that.
I will say that with certainty,as long ago as 1988 I was convinced by some honest police officers and some worried relatives of those in high positions that an established culture of accepted corruption existed in the city's administration. Indeed, we lost some fine police officers at that time who quit because of it. They have succeeded elsewhere. At least one other Mayor and more than a few AGs tried to improve the structure that allowed corruption to thrive but without laws or funds or honorable men and women in key positions, it's still not just easy but sometimes legal. That is WHY we have had so many scandals. Without laws that keep an eye on where tax dollars get spent, the you get Magnolia Venture Capitol, Meat Packing Plant and our latest, that Favre is battling to penny ante theft at the employee level. Because some of these corrupt people are with us in our neighborhoods ,churchs, schools and social activities and seem absolutely upstanding and God fearing to us and apparently are successful, we don't want to see someone like the News or Favre or Ebbers until we are forced to see them.
Perhaps, some of them come to believe " everybody else is doing it".
And, with the water, it's the poor and powerless who've always had it worse. And, frankly, prejudice feeds that.
As I write, citizens are ignoring evidence of crime to the extent not being willing to make it legal for those who they've come to admire. They will even believe Jews willingly put their children on trains to Auschwitz ignoring that all their resources to save themselves and their children were stolen first (a claim in a speech by Micheal Flynn, a convicted felon!)
The "Good Germans" can't really pretend " they didn't know". They just didn't want to see anything other than their life improved ...well until their sons began to die or forced to do things they abhorred or their survival depended upon turning a blind eye.
"...lend credibility to this same site by offering comments that at least showed forethought or consideration instead of blanket negative statements..."
I'll make a deal with you. You provide a list of positive things that can be said about this administration, the current state of Jackson affairs, its outlook or highlights AND I will work them into positive posts, one at a time.
DEAL?
I've tried to come up with a figure. Best guess is Jackson has had 21 Chiefs of Police in the past 34 years. And that may be a conservative guess.
In that same time period, Madison has had ONE.
August 22, 2023 at 11:50 PM, late night drinking is a setup for a rough next morning. I mean, some kind of mind-altering substance must be involved to compare Lumumba, to Trump.
The people I know who have left cited the lack of community support and that the small but extraordinary gains made despite the resistance of political opposition to allow the other party to succeed and anything, (large or small), were ignored.
KF, call Henifin or Judge Wingate. You've got a raw surface sewage discharge on JJ this morning.
Change "interim" to "pending final approval." Chowke took his victory lap a little too soon, right?
That sounds like a certain engineer who used to go to industry conferences and say Jackson should get an award for most improved water system. Blamed the troubles on negative media coverage.
Didn't think I knew about that, did you.
August 23, 2023 at 8:11 AM, what a convoluted mess you have penned. If you had finished one thought before moving on to two, or three, others, it may have even been a good post.
I'm sure it all sounded good in your head, but the jigsaw puzzle way you presented it is basically unintelligible.
Feel better, 11:14 AM?
