Domestic Violence Turns Deadly in Oakfield

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Madison County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on August 22nd, 2023, around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Oakfield Boulevard in Canton, Mississippi.

Deputies were responding to a call for service regarding a domestic disturbance at a home where it is believed the involved subject had fatally injured another individual at this scene. Upon arrival, the subject presented a weapon at the deputies. The involved subject received fatal injuries. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

Kingfish note: Law enforcement sources say the perp shot his girlfriend at her home.  Deputies received calls  about a domestic disturbance and the sound of gunshots around 9:42 PM. Deputies arrived at the Oakfield entrance and discovered a truck near the entrance.  A man and woman were inside the truck. They were friends of the girlfriend and were on their way to the girlfriend's home after receiving a call from her.   Unfortunately, the suspect shot them, killing the woman and wounding the man.

Deputies received. more calls of shots fired and tracked the suspect down to the clubhouse.  A shootout ensued.  A deputy wounded the suspect but the suspect delivered the fatal shot to himself.

The presser has an error. It started at about 9:45-10:00 PM, not 11:30 PM. I live in that area.

Not the city of Canton, but in a neighborhood off Clarkdell Road.

a domestic disturbance-

Yes, the neighborhood near the "It's not Dope, It's HOPE!!!!" billboard. Classy place. Family values. Right.

Wtf. Violence has been in demand for a long time, but it seems like more and more seemingly sane people are losing their sanity. I don’t have social media and don’t really pay attention to most of what I read. Seems like a lot more people are consumed by things they can’t control instead of keeping their head down and minding their own. If you know someone that is becoming shut off, that’s when you kind of start to pay attention and see if they just need an ear. Or, just ignore them and hide under the bed.

It could be bath salts, credit card debt, or a cheating spouse. Always be kind to everyone, but be prepared to kill them at any given moment. It’s getting out of hand. Love you!!

Gluckstadt is lost.

It's not in: Gluckstadt, nor Madison. It is a CANTON ADDRESS. Get over it.

If you want a Gluckstadt address or Madison address, annex to one of those cities, or accept the fact that you are in....CANTON.

And it’s just going to get worse with the help of the board of supervisors!

Well another mass exodus is about to happen with D R Horton coming in with more “affordable housing” and more of this will happen with financial constraints, job pressures, schools at max capacity. It’s a SHAME our supervisors are pushing for this!

These are madison county school districts which means it IS closer to gluckstat than canton. An address doesn’t mean a hill of beans. It’s the AREA the place is in.

Use to be a pretty nice area.

11:12 am, drive to that address, when you do, you will find that you are a mile from city limits a Madison by way of going south on Clarkdale, 800 yards maybe 1000 yards from LuckyTown, and freaking 10 miles from Canton. Dufus! Several people heard the shots that live in both, but not Canton.

Sad to have loss of life on any day.
The stupid of the day seemed to have taken his own life. I'd called that looser 24/7.

Grateful and thankful law enforcement are safe.
Thank you to those who assisted or engaged during this ordeal.

That is in Germantown school district less than a mile from the Madison Crossing Elementary. It is labeled a Canton by the postal service but that’s not Canton.

12:06 PM..thank you for setting that 11:12 a.m. dufus straight! People just need to keep their mouths shut if they don't know what they are talking about!

@ 1:01 Correct. Just like in Rankin county. There are addresses just outside of Puckett that are delivered by Brandon 39042 but yet the kids go to Puckett schools. 12 miles or more from town.

Y'all with a "Canton" address are just plain embarrassed, butt hurt, and defensive. But there are locals with a Madison address that don't live in Madison the City, so why don't they get all defensive and say "I don't live in Madison!"? They actually tell anyone and everyone "I live in Madison."

Too bad about your property values.

The point here is it doesn't matter where some people live, the results will always be the same.

I do not live in that area, but I know many people who do. Its a nice area and a wonderful place to raise your kids. Can I say that while the news is awful, its comforting to know that it was not a random act of violence. Domestic Violence knows no address. Can someone clarify how many people were shot.. The shooter was killed by the PD, but were the friends in the truck shot too? The water got a little muddy with KF's update at the end.

I just "drove around" that subdivision (via GoogleMap). What a bleak, ugly place! Are trees outlawed, there? I didn't spot even one tree, except for a few Crape Myrtles incorporated into foundation plantings. ...not even newly-planted little trees.

It's also apparent that 'Neutrals' are out, the "Ken Tate Look" is out (I spotted a gable copied directly from 'Windy Hill'), and square posts instead of legitimate columns, are OUT. If such things predominate in such a place, they're on their way out of fashion.

And I don't know which is worse: Madison County Builder Names, like 'Deerfield' (Madison County natives seem to have barely learned English, and so can't grasp what's substandard about such names), or the Naming Wheel names preferred by the Carpetbagger Dynasties coming out of Jackson. 'Deerfield' is, at least, authentic Redneck.

@1:10pm: I live in FLOWOOD AF, yet have a "Brandon, 39047" address. They even told me that "my post office is the Flowood Post Office." WTF?
If -I- don't live in Flowood, there AINT a "Flowood."

3:32 Your keyboard warrior attempt to achieve a response was successful. However, your shallow opinion is without substance. You would feel more relevant if attempted to be productive.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that the majority of the comments here are referencing the address and not the loss of life! Is that really what this society has become? Are we more concerned with where an act of violence occurred than we are the families that will be affected with these tragedies? My heartfelt prayers are with all of these families.

Oh, SLAP! Looks like somebody angered the wrong schoolmarm.

Can you clarify if that means “the involved suspect received fatal injuries” ‘AND,’ ‘AND/OR, ‘Or ‘IF AND & BUT’ “the suspect delivered the fatal shot to himself.”?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
