The Ridgeland Police Department issued the following statement.
On Thursday, August 3, 2023, at approximately 09:22 AM, RPD Officers responded to Papitos Mexican Grill in reference to a burglary. It was discovered that throughout the evening, someone had broken into the business by breaking an exterior window and disabling the surveillance system. The cash register was discovered in the parking lot, having been pried open with all money taken. Investigators were able to analyze the surveillance footage that was successfully recorded and quickly develop a suspect. Photographs of that subject were distributed to RPD patrol officers, who informed investigators that the subject in question was recently seen walking throughout the city.
At approximately 2:00 PM, RPD patrol officers and investigators were able to locate Daveon Marquise Lindsey, 19, walking near South Wheatley Street in Ridgeland. Lindsey was wearing the same clothes he wore during the burglary and had evidence from the crime on his person. He was detained and promptly taken into custody without incident. Lindsey was charged with Burglary and is being held at the Madison County Detention Center pending his initial appearance.
Due to the collaborative effort between patrol officers and investigators, the perpetrator of this crime was able to be identified and arrested within 24 hours. The Ridgeland Police Department is comprised of officers working in numerous roles, all working jointly to ensure the safety and security of those living, working, and traveling through Ridgeland.

That was fast. They caught the thief in about the same time it takes Jackson police to get to the crime scene.
Smile! You're on Candid Camera!
1:43 True and funny.
1:43 Why should JPD care, when the Mayor and the DA don’t! A waste of JPD patrol officers time and energy walking down alleged criminals!
I have a good friend that is a JPD officer for over 20 years. I thought his work ethic/behavior was lackadaisical, but now I know why! Lack of interest and leadership from higher ups!
2:07 and sad
Thoughtfully written report. I'm so glad the suspect was 'detained'.
Dumbass! All that he had to do was walk across county line road and no problem! Scott Free!
It’s nice to see good police work done without enhanced interrogation techniques with milk, sex toys, and firearms.
