No, Jackson is not suffering from another Chi-com engineered virus but rather a flu of the good ole fashioned labor variety.
Over 50 Jackson firefighters did not show up for work today. JFD normally staffs approximately 72 firefighters per day. Firefighters work a 24 hour shift and then are off for another 48 hours. Current rules allow firefighters to call in sick without a doctors excuse Monday through Thursday so it is a safe bet the Red Flu will continue until the weekend.

Such a radical bold city! Chokwe is the best mayor we have ever seen!

Red flu? Are you calling the firefighters communists?
The city council that has to authorize the pay increase for the firefighters, not Chokwe.
Does it really matter how many show up for work? No one knows where the fire hydrants are or if they even have water in them. Some of the roads are so bad that a fire truck has problems driving down them. If the trucks do get to the fire the firefighters. It would be nice if about half of Jackson did burn down. Some have already been on fire before. Some are falling down shacks, and some are so overgrown that they do not know if there is a building there.
This sounds like a vast left wing conspiracy. Right?
The civil servants of Jackson, the teachers, the government officials, will ultimately choke Jackson to death with their salary demands. They will want to keep up a competitive pay structure while Jackson's tax base falls apart and revenues dwindle. Unless money comes in you simply can't pay everybody, some services will have to suffer. It's apparent already. Jackson is becoming the ultimate turnip and blood cannot be extracted therefrom.
However, there is the Democrat dream. New money will be printed and ....
Clerk at Dollar General in Brandon said today she is working 7 days straight opening to close with no help or rest. Chokwe May have encouraged this behavior .
What kind of McDonalds job actually requires a doctor's excuse to prove you were sick?
Fire every f--n one of them.
There's a time and place for salary issues but, staying home when you know people can die directly due to you being a hard ass is unforgiveable.
@11:14 AM
The one on Hwy 471 close to SWAG motors closed down for several days as all the employees no-showed. But now they are all back.
The City of Jackson just awarded 18 MILLION, that's right 18 MILLION, to a company for renovation of the Russell C. Davis Planetarium. The city can live without a planetarium, but the city and it's residences CANNOT live without FIREMEN. These men and women put their lives on the line each day they put on the uniform. Not only are their lives in danger with every fire they fight, their lives are in danger by dodging random bullets when they go on medical calls. WAKE UP JACKSON CITY COUNCIL AND GIVE THE CITY OF JACKSON FIREFIGHTERS A RAISE !!!! Don't use the ole excuse that you don't have the money for a raise. If the city can find money for the foolishness it spends money on, the city can find money for a raise for the firemen. The city council can start by making cuts in their budget in the areas of foolish spending. I hope all 72 firefighters call in sick tomorrow.
STAND STRONG FIREFIGHTERS. You are supported !!!!!
So with over 50 of the 72 not showing up for work today, does this mean there are about 12 firemen taking care of the entire city today ? WOW - way to go City Council. Looks like another area of the city you've failed to fund. These firemen deserve a raise. Give it to them !!!!
nothing else works in Jackson ; why should firemen?
Ted, you interested?
Not taking sides but good timing for Firemen's strike: 100 degree weather.
Maybe more effective to intentionally control-burn Jackson blight to ashes, earn bonuses for each house and stay on the job.
Quit wasting State tax dollars in Jackson. It gets worse daily with no leadership to begin to even slow the decline. Move State government jobs to anywhere else.
Richard's Fire Dept coming soon.
The fire dept has taken a lesson from Lumumda. They stop maintaining the fire hydrants in the city for no stated reason. That's another job that has now been turned over to the czar of Jax. Now the fire persons want a raise? Come on now really?
zoo, planetarium, museums, arts support, sports support and city parks, old stadiums and golf courses and buildings, school consolidation, ending leases in mold infested old shopping malls, and a convention center are all things that need scaled back and some need to go away. the city just doesn’t have the people or tax base resources to pay for it all.
lumumba is in way over his head. he has
no clue how to steer the city.
cities in the rust belt have either figured it out, or had the state government put people in place that know how to change the situation. our governor has neither the courage or interest in the city of jackson. how many nights does he spend at the mansion anyway? probably very few.
@12:42 Winner!
And the new fire chief is....drum roll....Socrates Garrett.
Why don’t th firefighters turn in resignations & apply somewhere else.
How about that new golf pro the City of Jackson just hired ?
I bet he's making more than the firemen are. What ya think ?
@ 11:02 - Turn your cap around, Cletus. Teachers and government employees don't demand wage increases in this state.
Having no union representation, bargaining unit or leverage to do that, sort of makes them impotent in that respect.
Please educate yourself before popping off at the mouth.
Take the vacant positions for 911 or other departments and redirect to cover raises & Not raise taxes! Lumumba give up your Salary!
Laughing at 12:42!
Jackson needs to learn how to prioritize. When the drinking water system was in complete failure, and the City got ARPA money, they decided to use it to build a park on Farish Street. Not to fix the drinking water system, not to repair the sewer system, not to repair the roads, not to hire people and pay them a decent wage (not just firemen, but police and maintenance workers). Maybe the real people of Jackson (not the people running it) could get together and require all the Council members to develop a priority list for directing funds for repair and maintenance.
@9:01 AM - Speaking of Farish Street, there was an event there over the weekend with lots of nice booths set up, but maybe five visitors visible. How many million$ were spent paying Chowke's pals that flowed back to the Chowke bank account?
Illegal strike, even if KF won't say so.
I understand the Red Flu is still going on with the Jackson Fire Department. I hope JFD doesn't have to start closing fire stations in order to have enough firemen. These men and women need a raise! They are out in this heat today fighting a wildfire. Enough is enough! The City of Jackson needs to give them a raise & let them return to work doing the job they are trained to do. The firefighters are a huge asset to the City of Jackson and it's citizens.
