Waste Management will continue to provide sanitation services to the city of Jackson for another six months after the Jackson City Council and Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba avoided nuclear war today.
A hearing was supposed to be held this morning in Hinds County Chancery Court but Chancellor Tiffany Grove gave the two sides a chance to settle the case behind closed doors. After some time, the two branches of Jackson government reached an agreement that is posted below.

Trust the gut. This "getting along" is a survival tactic for every one of these crooks. The spotlight has become mighty and bright ! ALL of the county "leadership" should be feeling the heat now.
Six months for these crooks to come up with another plan to feather their nests.
Wait, what is poor ol' Soc going to do with those dozens of garbage trucks that he has standing by for immediate deployment? Oh my.
What happened to the City attorney? Did she get trashed by Ludumba The II?
Well that is one way to have a public meeting behind closed doors.
Just goes to show when everyone does not have to grandstand for the camera common ground can be found. I have always been a fan of the smoky back room personally.
Only because they hired a very competent outside lawyer who knows how to deal with people.
Poor, poor Socrates....."no soup for you"!
Alternate Headline: Graft Attempt Having Been Thwarted, Mayor and City Council Forced to Resort to Common Sense.
Mayor can now go by the name Choke-way Lumumba.
just keep kicking the can down the damn road
Six more months of weeping and gnashing of teeth over who wins the spoils of garbage.
In other words, we're going to have to endure the mayor's nonsense on this topic for another 6 months?
Does anyone else pronounce his name So-crates the way Bill and Ted did? It fits for this buffoon.
Who's making wagers that Antard still can't bill and collect for utilities in 6 months?
Soc get to keep the Incentive monies for a rainy day?
ain't shit settled. this is just the trash can getting washed down the bombed-out roads by jackson's above ground sewage system.
WM has done a great job for years in my neighborhood and should get a 5 or 6 year contract to continue status quo collection twice per day, with reasonable upward adjustment for verifiable inflation and a flexible adjustment for fuel cost surcharge.
Northside Sun argues a new contract should include collection of illegally dumped trash in ditches and elsewhere. That's crazy except as a separate cost item per ton, per hour or per load. This could stimulate endless illegal dumping.
Some loose trash in roadside drainage swales I have seen during a recent expedition through West Jackson are where renters have put out trash in bags, not protected in cans. This has been opened and spread all over, likely by stray dogs, raccoons and aluminum hunters.
Property owners (Landlords) should be billed extra for this loose collection by WM.
The City Council should hire an unbiased, independent Mayoral grading outfit to assign a letter grade to this Mayor for each aspect of his childish, inept policies and actions.
Surprise! Surprise! Somebody must have accidently hired lawyers who are more interested in the city than the usual bullshit for a big fee. Bookmark this. You may never see it again!
This goofy "agreement" only gives Socrates six more months to turn out an even slicker version of an another LBJ/MLK local media ad.
I agree Socrates is brilliant.
Many of the poor ... low information(ignorant)... Jackson folk will buy into this nonsense immediately at his first new commercial.
Anyway, I think tonight Virgi is feeling warm & fuzzy,
while the lil' Mayor and Socrates are laughing their asses off ....
Wyatt Emmerich, publisher of the Northside Sun, got it right this week when he wrote, "An RFP is a clear indication that the city, or any other governmental entity, does not have its act together. It's like saying "Hey, I don't really know what I want you to do for me, so how about you make me a proposal?" We're in for more of the same.
So expect the garbage RFP to go out around Christmas and get lost in the public’s eyes
Can I get some more "Whereas" please?
Darn, and I was looking forward to dumping my garbage in front of the boy mayor's security gate.
I dont ride down County Line Road very often, but found myself going somewhere near there. The trash in parking lots on the Jackson side is embarrassing. I’m sure the visitors to CCJ for the golf tour meant are impressed with their limited view of Jackson. Looks like they don’t even use trash pickup and just throw it in a parking lot…
@7:37 PM - the Jackson side of E. County Line Road has become a waste land. Businesses are closing and/or moving north weekly. The business owners on the Ridgeland side of the road must be very nervous.
Four years ago just before Christmas I went into the Honey Baked Ham store, which is on the Ridgeland side. There were three (3) off duty Ridgeland PD officers working security. That tells you something about that area, all influenced by Jackson.
