Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On September 28, just after 7:00 p.m., a Rankin County deputy observed a UHAUL moving truck traveling on Highway 80 in Pearl. The deputy attempted to stop the truck for a traffic violation. Upon seeing the deputy activate his lights, the driver of the truck accelerated and began driving more aggressive in an attempt to evade law enforcement.
The driver of the truck, later identified as JACKY A BLACKWOOD, struck another vehicle as he continued from Pearl to Flowood. Officers from Pearl Police Department as well as Flowood Police Department assisted in the chase as BLACKWOOD continued through Flowood towards the Reservoir area. While on Spillway Rd., other deputies assisting with the pursuit were able to successfully deploy spike strips in an attempt to bring the pursuit to an end. BLACKWOOD then got back on Highway 25 heading south back towards Flowood. On Highway 25 just south of the Hugh Ward Blvd., BLACKWOOD lost control of the truck and flipped the vehicle on its side.
BLACKWOOD and his passenger, VALERIE SHEPARD, were both taken into custody and taken to the Rankin County Jail. Both are charged with felony fleeing. District Attorney Bubba Bramlett will bring both before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel for an initial appearance. BLACKWOOD also has warrants out of South Carolina. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey would like to thank the local law enforcement agencies for their assistance in this matter.

I saw the chase. Bizarre to see a U-Haul truck with a flat tire evading 10 police cars
" District Attorney Bubba Bramlett will bring both before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel for an initial appearance." What the hell type of traffic violation and leaving the scene of an accident requires the DA's involvement? Understand he may go through extradition for his foreign warrant(s) but if they aren't felonies, SC may not want to spend the money to come and get him. Not that I'm bitching, I had a friend ask me.
Book 'em, Bubba.
Also saw the chase. Wondering what the outstanding warrants were for and why the driver chose to flee. Also surprising that law enforcement would engage in such a long, drawn out pursuit over a "traffic violation." It is fortunate that no one else was hurt.
When a routine traffic violation becomes felony fleeing. To be continued...
A lot of things you can haul in one of those things. Nuclear warhead, dope, sex slaves, missing children, couch, love seat.......
This same bunch came through Flowood last week. They got pulled over and asked what you haulin. The driver said Penguins. So they rolled up the door to find 52 flappin' penguins. The officer told them in this heat they needed to get those Penguins to the Zoo, pronto, and let them go on their way.
Now a week later, after the crash, they roll up the door to find 52 flappin' Penguins. The officer says to them "I thought I told you to take them Penguins to the Zoo last week?!"
The driver says "yeah, well, they had such a good time at the Zoo we're going to the beach this week!"
12:59 here. I was wondering why FloPo didn’t speed past the UHaul and block it in. I thought the police were exercises too much restraint. But perhaps I’ve watched too much TV.
I too witnessed this chase. Has to be more to the story for at LEAST 10 PoPo cars to throw spikes 3 times and chase a uhaulit on busy
Lakeland Dr. The guy driving the truck was crying like a baby..
Wow... Trashy People...
Why are they both being charged only one person was driving the passenger was only in the truck what you want them to do jump out in the middle of the chase Ranking county justice for ya
Were the LEOs confused that the vehicle wasn't traveling towards Jackson?
I'm the only one commenting who did not witness this 'chase', but, if this 'chase' was on spillway road, why the hell could not ten or more police vehicle simply block the roadway?
I'm surprised Sigman's boys weren't activated since a truck that size is illegal on the spillway.
