Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.
Tuesday, Mayor Lumumba has extended the
city-wide curfew issued on August 6th commencing at 12 midnight on Wednesday, August 12th.
As in the previous order, the curfew prohibits a range of non-essential
pedestrian and vehicular movement during the hours of midnight to 5:00
am for a period of five days. After the five-day period, the need for a
new Order of Curfew will be reviewed.
The curfew extension is part of a comprehensive effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This effort also includes the Fourth
Amended Stay Safe Jackson Executive Order issued today by Mayor Lumumba in effect through August 19th.
The
amended Executive Order extends the “10/20” restrictions on gatherings
to include parks. The 10/20 rule limits inside gatherings
to no more than 10 people with appropriate social distancing and no
more than 20 people with appropriate social distancing at outside
gatherings.
“The
science is clear. Staying home, wearing masks and physical distancing
are important to keeping each other safe,” said Mayor
Lumumba. “Our commitment is to protect the health of our residents by
any means necessary. We will get through this together.”
Residents
are encouraged to seek support in these challenging times by calling
the City of Jackson’s Warmline at (601) 601-586-3073
or 866-300-7948, or learning more about support services including
employment opportunities at
www.jacksonms.gov
The
curfew order also requires essential businesses or operations located
within the City of Jackson to provide essential employees
– upon request - documentation or verification of their essential
status and necessity for travel during the curfew hours.

Absolute and unreserved credit when its due: Good job and thank you, Mayor Lumumba.
As a citizen of Jackson I’m glad our Mayor is proactive on this point. Now if he only understood that Andy Jackson literally ensured that the US wouldn’t become squeezed between the Mississippi River In British hands, and the blockade of a British fleet, and Florida in Spanish hands, and put Andy’s statue back, we’d have it all around here.
Kang,
Can you get a count of arrests/citations issued for violation of the order? If there are none, I suggest that Baby Chok is either the greatest motivator ever or a braying ass...
With exception to:
1) All block parties, regardless of why they are being held.
2) All gatherings his honor wants to attend.
3) Any and all shootings may proceed without delay.
4) Stabbings, fights and ice pick usage shall remain curtailed until after sunset.
7:15 for the win...
Antard extends weekly (purposefully) in order to keep his name in the local press and mug featured by the TVNewsers. The notion that his orders will have a meaningful impact in only one week is pure folly. The press (KF being the exception) falls for his garbage every time.
The science is settled; the virus is nocturnal and a curfew (with certain exceptions) is the ONLY way to stop the spread.
Combining a curfew with no "open carry" will completely eliminate this virus. Baby Chok is a real trail blazer.
I wish the owners of Capitol Grill would adhere to the mandate.
Is everybody who drives an '80s model General Motors product exempt from the curfew or is that my imagination? Axing for a friend who drives a Studebaker.

Great historic observation !
(Not that real history is taught anymore)
But I ask again, where did Antard hide the General/President Andrew Jackson Statue ?
5:02: Yes, Andy literally saved the US. The Treaty of Ghent had a provision, little understood today, that the Treaty would preserve boundaries as of the date of the signing. Had Andy by then not have tossed the British out of the Louisiana territory, and earlier wrested Florida from effective Spanish influence, we would have become a truncated country perhaps for ever, and never freed (for the sake of all) for at least generations without a lot more bloodshed.
