Dixon Goes Free in Fortification Street Murder Case

Lidarious Dixon is back on the street after serving less than three years in prison.  Dixon was linked to the murder of 23-year old Chelsie Kirschten on August 17, 2017 at the intersection of Fortification and North State Streets in Jackson.

A jury convicted Dixon of conspiracy to commit armed robbery last August.  However, the Mississippi Parole Board paroled Dixon just a few months later.  Dixon became a free man in January.

JPD arrested Nicholas Coats, Lidarious Dixon, and Jushun Paige for Kirschten's murder and trying to rob the passenger in her car.  JPD reported in August 2017:

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the victim and a front seat passenger were stationary at the intersection of Fortification St. near State St. waiting for the traffic signal to change, when an unidentified black male subject approached the vehicle from the driver side armed with a silver handgun. The suspect, wearing dark colored clothing, fired a single gunshot through the front driver side window of the vehicle striking the victim (in the upper back) and he fled on foot. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound on Fortification St. and came to a final rest near the interstate. The motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
The grand jury indicted Coats, Lidarius Dixon, and Jushun Paige for capital murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.  Coats admitted to driving the other suspects to the scene of the murder. The police report stated Nicholas Coats said "Red and Twin got into the Jeep"  He drove down Congress and saw Kirschten's white Pontiac G6 GT.  Coats said Dixon  jumped  out  of  his car  with  a  silver  revolver  and  fired the weapon into the Pontiac as  he  approached  the driver's side window.  Kirschten drove off but suddenly died as she drove down Fortification Street.  The vehicle crashed near the I-55 overpass.

Coats testified Dixon sat in the back seat of the car while Jushun "Red" Paige was the shooter.  Coats testified he drove the car as it pulled up next to Kirschten's car. Coats pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on December 6, 2018.  Circuit Judge Jeff Weill sentenced Coats to serve forty years in prison but suspended ten years of the sentence.

A Hinds County jury convicted Dixon of conspiracy to commit armed robbery of Lauren Brown on August 8, 2019.  Ms. Brown was a passenger in the car with the deceased.  The jury acquitted Dixon of capital murder.  Judge Adrienne Whooten sentenced Dixon to serve 5 years in prison but gave him credit for time served (710 days).  Dixon has been incarcerated since JPD arrested him on August 29, 2017.

The Mississippi Parole Board granted parole to Dixon in December. The District Attorney nor did the victim, Lauren Brown, oppose parole.  She did not even enroll in the victim notification system.

The trial for the last capital murder suspect, Jushun "Red" Paige, is supposed to start next week.  The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Winston Kidd.

I guess certain lives don’t matter. Who is on the parole board again ?

Anonymous said...

Yep. Pretty much confirms my belief that no lives matter unless you are the 1%

Anonymous said...

Is anyone surprised ?

Anonymous said...

Not surprised at all.

Any word on the 14 year old that was killed last week? That one has been mighty quiet.

And we wonder why there is so much crime in our streets.

Someone please remind me, was this random or was the victim known to the criminals?

The only way you teach your kids to avoid this from happening since there are no consequences in Jackson is to avoid Jackson altogether.

Anonymous said...

and so it continues. Where would a betting man put the over and under on his next felony?

Let me tell you the victim notification system is utterly broken. I know from personal, unfortunate, and unfair experience. DA victim service advocates routinely do not advise victims they must register with both the county and the state through separate processes. And then, if the convicted gets this part and that part suspended and never actually spends any days in true state custody, he isn’t tied to the state victim notification system and instead floats off into the ether. My guess is this young lady was never told she had to register and is now going to see this man’s face on the news and be gripped by fear. It is a damned shame the way the system treats victims.

Burn, Loot, Murder!

This is why Jackson is a horrible, disgusting place and why nobody wants to live or visit there.

Must be a slow day in the racist newsroom. He got a token conviction for something he wasn’t involved in and served less time in prison than he did waiting for trial to be found not guilty of murder. Yawn.

Life is cheap in Jacktown, the murder capital of Mississippi.

At a minimum, the felony murder statute applied in this case.

Time to sell your homes at a loss and get out, for a year or two down the road you won't be able to give it away, at which time you can become a landlord.

Like a drug addict, Jacktown will have to reach absolute bottom before it can work its way back to the glory days.

Nice job “reporting” that he only got 5 years and got *gasp* credit for 710 days but conveniently neglecting to mention that 5 years is the statutory maximum and he is legally entitled to credit for every single day served in pretrial detention. Doesn’t fit the narrative, huh?

Anonymous said...

@8:11 They literally charged him with murder. He was acquitted. What the hell are you talking about?

Anonymous said...

Dear 8:14, you illustrate perfectly that he never spent a day in true state custody as a convict, only in county custody awaiting trial, and would therefore likely not be tied to the victim notification system. Convicted of a state crime but skate having to let your victim know when you’re paroled. Nice system. Except it’s not. Maybe it’s changed since I was the victim. I doubt it.

I bet the other one walks. Hinds DA cant prosecute their way out of a wet paper bag.

Also, of course Jackson is the “murder capital”. It’s the biggest city in the state by more than double. Meridian, a city 1/4 the size of Jackson consistently has more murders per capita every year. If you’d going to dog whistle, at least try to be factually correct.

This kind of crap is exactly why I will never live in Jackson again. Someone could kill you or a member of your family and walk free literally getting away with murder! The Herrion family has been waiting six years for some kind of justice in that murder! Pathetic! The taxes are sky high and the infrastructure is horrible; Jackson is in sad shape. I pray the new DA Owens will at least try to get the murderers off the street. I mean, gah, what a low bar! Just seems to be getting worse!

You're half right

This is exactly why no one in my family is allowed to go to Jackson. My children have been taught to avoid that cesspool at all costs. I feel very sorry for the children whose parents have means to leave, but stay in some attempt at a ‘last stand’.

It was the Mississippi parole board? Who is on this parole board? Is it state or local.

We could save money by losing the prisons and once a week, give every convicted person a gun and put all of them in Veterans Memorial Stadium and the last one standing goes free. Most of them are pretty good sideways grip shooters, so it should be an interesting 15 or 20 minutes. Can you imagine how the participants would act the last thirty minutes before the stadium shoot out starts

Well dang. Where’s the commenter that said Madison is boring?

Anonymous said...

@9:18. Read the article.

Anonymous said...

@8:37- Our friend Google says Meridian had 15 murders in 2019 vs 84 in Jackson. Where did your numbers come from?

Anonymous said...

Why has it taken so longer for the shooter, Paige, to be brought to trial?

Silver Lining said...

On the bright side, since he is a convicted felon, he will never be able to own, possess or be in proximity of a handgun.

Whew! So glad for that law.

Jackson should have a statue of Lidarious somewhere. Maybe with some lights shining on it.

"Why has it taken so longer for the shooter, Paige, to be brought to trial?" You do know where we are talking about, I assume.

Like that has ever stopped a felon in Jackson. Have you paid attention to the perps of murders in Jackson?

Anonymous said...

RESPONSE TO 8:14pm. "...Doesn’t fit the narrative, huh?" I re-read the article three times to find the slanted, judgmental narrative you seem to propose. It isn't there. There were only statements of fact provided, such as Judge Whooten "...sentenced Dixon to serve 5 years in prison and gave him credit for time served (710)." All of which is backed up by the support documents below the article. There may be other articles to suggest your criticism but this isn't one of them. Have a Nice Day! BWC

My parents used to tell me that “nothing good happens after midnight”. I’ll teach my kids that nothing good happens in Jackson...really at any time of the day. Just stay away from the place altogether and let it finish going through it’s death throes alone.

Anonymous said...

Interesting how many people here say they and their families must avoid Jackson at all costs, but somehow always seem to find themselves reading a blog about Jackson. Almost like they are looking for something else.

Anonymous said...

Who pulled the trigger? The narrative alludes to two different people.

Some of us have moved out. I managed to at the end of May. It's like keeping an eye on a neighbor that has a bad reputation. Or situational awareness.

Who is parole board?

Anonymous said...

@8:37 some numbers for you. Jackson is the largest city in the state with population of 160,080 with 82 homicides in 2019. Gulfport is the second largest with a Population of 72,670 and they had 13 homicides in 2019. Now meridian has a population of 35,949 and had 15 homicides. You can do percentages but 82 homicides compared to 15 in meridian.

2+2 said...

4:01 - If you wanted to make a point, why the hell didn't you? Given the numbers you cite, the percentages, in order, for Jackson, Gulfport and Meridian are as follows:

.0005122
.0001788
.0004172

Not to be rude, but, what's your point?

Anonymous said...

Not a single one of you morons understands the felony murder role or its actual application in criminal cases.

Anonymous said...

So this guy didn't actually kill anybody, and he spent years in prison as he should have. The felony-murder rule will eventually be declared unconstitutional. It is absurd to argue that it deters any felonies; instead it merely bypasses the mens rea requirement that is so central to our criminal law and imposes punishments grossly out of proportion with the acts and mental state of the defendant. All of y'all that want this guy locked away for decades are bloodthirsty and objectively wrong.

Jackson is indeed a terrible place, though. Mississippi would be better off abandoning that dirty, stinky, crumbling debacle of an attempt at urbanity.

No justice.
No peace.

For those still stuck in Jackson, ITS TIME TO GET OUT!!!

Forget selling your house, burn it to the ground and get the heck out of that place!

Violent criminals are getting more emboldened with each passing year, and they will continue to encroach on the nicer suburbs as that’s where the money will be.

2002 Eddie Williams was burned alive. Eye witnesses identified two “men” at the scene of the crime who had accelerant injuries their person. Both failed polygraph tests. Neither were indicted. That DA is now a judge. You get what you vote for.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
