Governor Imposes C19 Limits in 13 Counties

Governor Tate Reeves is holding a press conference on the Covid-19 virus.  It is streamed below.

* Governor said we are "in the middle of a spike."

* The spike is worst in Hinds, Desoto, Rankin, Jackson, Grenada, Washington, Madison, Quitman, Sunflower, Harrison, Claiborne, Jefferson, and Wayne counties.

* The Governor is placing additional restrictions in those counties.  The restrictions will be further limits on social gatherings.  No businesses will be shut down.  All citizens must wear masks at public gatherings or in a shopping environment.

Isn't the idea that you wear a mask to protect others from you giving permission to people who think they may have Covid 19 to go out an about? Aren't we really just creating a false sense of security and in doing so, spreading the virus?

When will Governor Reeves switch parties? His conservative principles must have just been a soundbite in an ad. He has said multiple times that this is America and not China...hmmm. This "pandemic" is showing all the true colors of the politicians. Well, at least we know now but it's a long wait until Nov 2023.

@2:55pm - No

The Governor is struggling, as all are, with COVID. He is reaching out for something (masks) that may work in the mitigation process. Is it "proven" with an RCT? No. But it may work. To condemn him as a tyrant or a Democrat as taking your rights away is both stupid and blind.

Love the deniers. No, we're not China. They have their shit under control. And no one has EVER suggested we do exactly like them. But lots of free countries apparently can read, write, and follow some basic rules and not simply walk about staggering drunk looking for the next party.

No, wearing a mask is simple common sense and good health. You don't KNOW and possibly cannot know before (if ever) developing symptoms that you are transmitting Covid to others. This has been known for a long time. Hence, mask.

This disease has the sweet spot between transmissibility and lethality. That is, it's not so deadly that it kills off its hosts quickly, because then it'd die out. But it's 10 times or more transmissible than flu.

And you don't know if it's going to be no effects, a little sick, really sick, or if it's going to kill you, give you a stroke, hurt your hurt, put you on dialysis, or even lead to an amputation. And, folks, that's been among 40 year olds.

Again, 40% of the US population between 20-55 years old has some underlying condition.

With sky high transmission, we can't keep the economy open with everyone getting sick all the time.

Mask Up. Social distance. Avoid gatherings, so we can keep the economy open and save lives. THAT's America. Not "FreeDumb" and toy ARs, hero.

But let me give Tater some credit for trying to carry out basic common sense rules in spite of Cletus the Ignorant.

China? Can't believe any data that comes from that country.

2:55 Then the message needs to be clear. You wear a mask to prevent inadvertently spreading it to others if you are in the 80% of COVID victims who either have a couple of days delay in showing symptoms or who never show recognizable symptoms at all.

If you have a fever, bad cough, loss of smell or other serious symptoms then you get tested for COVID and stay home.

It's not that difficult. It takes a special kind of stupid to think wearing a mask when you are showing serious symptoms of illness makes everything OK. Yes, there are some idiots out there that will think that, but they will also be the ones that wouldn't have heeded the advice to isolate in the first place.

Everybody wearing masks will be more effective than the 1/3 we have wearing them now even if a few people riding the short bus don't understand to stay home when you think you're sick.

How can they even know where the spikes are? I'm still waiting on test results from over a week ago..... Apparently most of the labs took the 3 day weekend.

Must not be that much of a concern!

Anonymous said...

@3:14 wrong. If you don't have symptoms you are highly unlikely to be spreading the virus.

What's the old saying, those who can't do, teach
Those who can't do either run for office.

How much more testing are we doing as a percentage? If the testing increased by 100% but we're seeing a 500% increase in cases, that's bad, but.. if we increased testing 10 times as much and see an increase of 300% in cases, is it really that big of a deal?

It's easy to look at stats and believe what you want to believe, but we need to know the full numbers.

Anonymous said...

What does this do to youth baseball?

Anonymous said...

@3:22, That's exactly right. Many states didn't report numbers on the 4th of July and under reported on the weekend. Suddenly we're at 60,000 for the nation but the 7 day average isn't much different.

"If you don't have symptoms you are highly unlikely to be spreading the virus." Sure, Ima trust your Internet conspiracy theory science. Or,

Let's see, versus: New England Journal of Medicine: "A key factor in the transmissibility of Covid-19 is the high level of SARS-CoV-2 shedding in the upper respiratory tract,1 even among presymptomatic patients, which distinguishes it from SARS-CoV-1, where replication occurs mainly in the lower respiratory tract.2"

WHO: Ryan emphasized that this was a reason for wearing masks. “There is this period of time when, you know, even a professor of infectious diseases themselves wouldn’t know that I’m getting COVID,” Ryan said. “There is that hours or days in which you’re not that unwell, or you could be becoming unwell, you’re not aware of your status, and it’s because the disease can spread at that moment that the disease is so contagious. That’s why it’s spread around the world in such an uncontained way. It’s because it’s hard to stop this virus.”

But, hey, either cherry pick the Conspiracy Theory of your choice, or deny science and evidence.

2:56 - that's about the dumbest statement on this blog in a week. Maybe even more. Questioning Tater's conservatism is a hell of a stretch.

But since you think you are so damn smart, we can all hope that in your ignorance you are one of the ones that catches this stuff and suffers greatly. That way, you wont be around in 2023 - help with cleaning out the gene pool.

I can’t understand anyone who says that wearing a mask that protects against the spread of a virus is somehow an infringement on your freedom. Wearing a mask and maintaining distance is what increases our chances to maintain freedom of movement.

2:56 putting “pandemic” in quotes says it all.

@3:22 PM - and you know this, because?

Anonymous said...

Pointless. Make all counties wear masks otherwise you’re just going to have this spike again.

Anonymous said...

3:22 The WHO said pretty much the same thing a couple of weeks ago and had to immediately retract it. There is little evidence to show how much asymptomatic people spread the virus simply because they don't know they're sick and can't be contact traced.

On the other hand, there are plenty of examples of people who spread the virus but didn't start feeling sick until later.

Asymptomatic people can and do spread the virus even if it may not be as much as someone who is coughing up a storm.

Looks like Scott, Newton, Neshoba, and Lauderdale in my area finally got their act together. Leake is still a shitshow with 50% higher infection rate in the last week than Wayne. Don't know why they didn't make the list.

Anonymous said...

Listening to Tate and Dr. Dobbs the last couple of weeks it has sounded like they didn't want to mandate masks because they thought it would only make the people refusing to wear them even more entrenched in their views. Now they're not just selfish brats, they're freedom fighters against government tyranny.

Really hope that is not the result here and that people start to get the picture. We're running out of time to avert some truly terrible outcomes.

@3:14, well you disheveled, neck-bearded, Fondren commie in an elbow-patched corduroy jacket, you managed to somehow package your fear of the most common rifle in America, your hatred for “rednecks” (however YOU define that) and your worship of Big Government into one succinct package. Tom Head shall bless thee.

Anonymous said...

@3:22 No, you are very wrong. Most people carrying the virus and spitting it out and exhaling it are asymptomatic. As in no symptoms. Ever. So your statement is flat out wrong.

Anonymous said...

Just back to the way it was prior to opening up. Keep it closed at that level until after New Years 2021, and try again at a lower pace. Cancel any and all sports, schools and any public gathering including protests. Guess the only way that we may get anywhere near helping is severe action.

Anonymous said...

Tate must be in this for the money. The only reason I can comprehend that he is going along with this fake plandemic hoax is for the federal aid. It is so obviously a hoax and psyop.

Serious questions that I have not been able to find answers to. Where can one find hospital census data for either the whole state, counties, or individual hospitals showing current capacity, length of stay, and admittance? How much of current hospitalizations are patiens being treated for covid vs admitted for something else, being treated for something else but also have tested positive for Covid with mild symptoms but not necessarily being treated for it? Is the bed shortage at the hospitals physical beds or is this a staffing issue? If a staffing issue is that caused by the previous shutdown and cutbacks or layoffs? I seem to remember articles back in 2018 flu season about Jackson area hospitals being at or near capacity. I don't remember the exact details but would like to see a historical comparison from then to now. I know hospitals like to operate close to capacity so how much over the normal capacity are the hospitals? Current and historical census data would be able to tell us that.

Who says were going to go back to freedom? Everybody politician I've seen has said this is a new normal when talking about where we go from here.

Get it out of your head that we will ever have sports again.
Get it out of your head that you will travel where you want when you want.
Get it out of your head that you can go to a movie theater again.

Get those things out of your head. This is your new normal. It's not just America, it's the New World Order.

Why should America enjoy so much wealth and leisure when many countries can barely feed their children?

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, government control (i.e. China) is actually good during a pandemic because the average citizen is too stupid/selfish to protect themselves in others in great enough numbers for it to matter.

Why not just close every damn store. That way people will not have to worry about masks. Close all of the highways so people cannot go anywhere.

Can we talk about schools reopening? I find it very interesting and disturbing that Claiborne and Canton, two of the worst school districts in the State, are doing “distance learning” several days a week while Madison, Rankin, and DeSoto are pretty much going back to normal. I have a feeling JPS will announce on the 17th that they’re going to use distance learning, as well. How in the world do they expect many of these children in Jackson to get a laptop or device per student AND a working internet connection?! Not to mention proper supervision and help with school work. I would guess that many of their parents can’t just stay home from work. The disparities between children living in low income areas and Madison, Rankin, etc. will continue. And it’s no one’s fault but our own. It also doesn’t seem like the Coronavirus is going anywhere anytime soon so it’s hard to imagine a time when schools will choose to reopen fully if not now.

@6:28 You couldn’t be more wrong. You sound like Thomas Friedman 20 years ago talking about the wonders of the Chinese command economy. Government dictates are inflexible and they become boxed in by the need to preserve their infallibility so there is no deviation, no change of direction, no assessment of the situation because that would appear they are wrong. Look at our own bureaucrats. No humility, no admission of how bad they have boned this up, just on to the next set of demands that will preserve us from millions of deaths, overwhelming the healthcare system, the second wave or up next...the long term Covid effects.

@3:43 Thanks for the kind words! I hope you feel better now. I don't wish ill will on anyone, and I certainly don't wish the virus on anyone.

So if I wear my mask on my chin does that still count as wearing it? Most of the employees at stores and general public don’t wear them correctly so why wear them at all. It’s turned into a dang fashion statement instead of prevention.

We have become such a weak society...to screw around with ALL sports schedules the way that the idiots running them have done!

Youth baseball being altered will be bad enough, but if our SEC football is pushed back, by even a week, then God help us all. I cannot fathom the thought of not getting to see Bama run USC out of the stadium...for the second time in less than half a decade.

Roll Damn Tide, and the question needs to be asked: is this coronee, whatever it is, a hoax created by SEC haters?

Worldwide deaths are up, year over year, in roughly the same number as the deaths from coronavirus. Hospitalizations in Ms are up commensurate w coronavirus. Yet, many on here - and elsewhere - refuse to believe this is anything of significance. One of the marvels of Nature is the resistance which the average human brain offers to the introduction of knowledge.

@8:42 p.m. — I'd say Canton is handling the resumption of school in a much more responsible manner than Madison County. I'm a teacher in a metro-area district (neither of the two mentioned above), and I don't hold out much hope that my district will take the proper precautions to protect the health of students and staff members. As someone in a high-risk group who also has a relative in a high-risk group living with me, I am afraid I will have to seriously consider not returning to school next month unless the district makes responsible decisions.

Anonymous said...

I hope the youth baseball comments are facetious. If that's what you people are worried about right now, it's no wonder we're in the situation we're in.

Anonymous said...

Madison and the other school districts, will be shutting down within two weeks once cases show up. Not to mention if anyone thinks that 100% of the staff shows up, good luck with that. They signed contracts to teach not get sick or die.

Anonymous said...

+1 @7:13.
Any school or school district that attempts anything in person before a vaccine will be shut down within 2 weeks from explosion of cases. That explosion is already happening among the private school crowd who assembled at the sewage/Covid fest at the Pearl on the 4th and other gatherings.

Anonymous said...

The metro schools appear to be run by fools. Not only did this state NOT follow "re opening" guidelines, they are now hell bent to kill a bunch of folks. When "Mr. Willie" the beloved janitor and bus driver dies, parents will realize what these Districts decided to do. The Supes and boards in Rankin and Madison decided to wing it, knowing it will kill teachers and staff, just like in NYC schools which were open when this thing got romping. That info is available to them, if they read.

And remind me again what that "prison contract" guy did besides badmouth "GubMint" while taking GubMint contracts and giving bribes. Oh, yeah, RCSD board. Always talking about "cutting costs" and "saving tax money." So it went for his contracts. We sure didn't have any soap then! Think they are going to "retrofit" the schools or have hand sanitizer or reduce crowding? Nope. Let the folks die. We won't spend a nickel!!!

And remember that the AAP, who's endorsed wide open germ factories, also had wholeheartedly endorsed transgender "celebration" and mentions in its statements how important socialization is. Not education. They prioritize social engineering over actual education. And, boy, think of the office visits!! KaChing.

Sad to see the 40, 50, and 60 year old teachers, kitchen staff, janitors, and bus drivers who are about to die as literally political cannon fodder. Martyrs, sacrificed for a damn fool in the White House. And, no, I'm not a "democrat" or "librul."

We know this will happen, and most other countries have tried the "heck with it" school method and had to retreat. But, Hurry, Children!!! Hurry! There's an election coming!

Look at US history and the timing of Presidential election and the times we've either rushed or postponed critical life taking issues, from wars to pandemics, in the name of politics. It's a damn shame.

And, no, I'm not a "Fondren" "librul." I'm from Scobey, and you couldn't find that without a map or making 200 phone calls. SCV. Vet. And I have more guns (and bigger ones) than the Springfield Armory in 1944. Spare me the "librul" crap.

I'm not librul because I can read and do math. And, we've been down this road before. And, apparently, didn't learn anything.

The truth is, no one F(*& knows. You wear a mask, probably the same one all day or even for days, you're wearing a Petri dish on your face. Yea, if you're in close contact with others and you're asymptomatic, you could spread it just like you could spread a myriad of other illnesses we've never been very concerned with in the past. And, if you're fiddling with your mask constantly, or, as with most people, it slips below your nose on a regular basis while you talk, what's the point? Truth is, wearing a mask is a feel good exercise and little else. If you wear one, good for you, but I think it makes you look foolish unless you're in a medical situation where they are discarded after each use. If I am forced by an unforeseen circumstance to wear a face covering, I'll choose a loosely fitting bandanna, which is just as useless, but doesn't make me look like as much of an idiot. But as long as this edict is in place, I probably will not shop in my county anyway.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
