D.A. Tries to Get Bond Revoked for MBar Murder Suspect

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens asked Circuit Judge Faye Peterson to revoke the bond of Javarius Stewart.  Stewart is a suspect in the murder of Mantrell Shelby at the M Bar Friday night.  Stewart was free on bond after a Hinds County grand jury indicted him in December for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and several other charges.

Clinton police arrested Stewart on October 26, 2018.  Clinton police attempted to stop him as he drove a stolen vehicle.  Stewart allegedly fled the police and rammed both a police car and a civilian vehicle.  However, Circuit Judge Tomie Green ordered him released in May 2019 because he had not been indicted.  The grand jury indicted him in December for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing, and receiving stolen property.

Stewart did not appear for a court appearance (presumably his arraignment) in February.  Judge Peterson issued a bench warrant for his arrest but he had not yet been apprehended when the murder took place Friday night.

Mr. Owens asked Judge Peterson to revoke his bond for the December indictment.  The motion includes an affidavit that provides more information about what took place Friday night.

On 07/04/2020 I, Investigator Samuel Dukes was working an off duty security detail at the Mbar Bar/Grill (6340 Ridgewood Ct. Jackson, Ms.) when several gunshots were fired from the interior of the establishment.

Hinds County Deputies immediately notified dispatch of the incident occurring and asked for JPD units to respond. At that time the patrons of the establishment began to disburse from the interior of the establishment. Once the scene appeared safe Deputies entered the business to locate a crime scene and any injured individuals. While accessing the scene it was noticed one unknown black male lying on the floor unresponsive face down bleeding from what appeared to be his face. During the investigation the unknown black male was identified as Mantrell Cortez Shelby. As the investigation continued video surveillance was located and it was noticed a physical altercation occurred between several individuals and an unknown black male wearing a red baseball jersey who was later identified as Javarius Dajion Stewart pulled an unknown caliber handgun from his front waistband and fired several shots. As the video continued It was noticed Mantrell Shelby was fatally wounded during the series of shots.

At this time three other victims were confirmed injured and all were treated at UMMC for their injuries. Once on scene at UMMC all three victims were identified as Kendarrian Undrey Chatman(Left Hand), Lagarius Love(Arm), and Damion Demario Williams(Right Hand). Mantrell Shelby was pronounced deceased by AMR Personal Bill Davis (Truck #427). Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham was notified and arrived on scene taking possession of the deceased. While on scene Capt. Tyree Jones was able to identify Javarius Stewart by showing a photo taken from the video surveillance to JPD Officers on scene and he was identified due to previously being arrested in an unrelated incident.
Stewart is still at large.  He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Another blessing from Judge Green! Someone needs to keep a record of the number of people she releases who then go on to commit a murder/violent crime. That's blood on her hands. Scum

wouldn’t surprise me if he got more severe punishment for not wearing a mask than murder..

How about locking up judge green?

I think they should just make him promise to be good until he is tried for murder. No need for the DA to get all huffy with him.

Wasn't that the same day the Mayor said he was going to start shutting down any business that didn't follow his mask order? He wasn't sitting at a table eating so they should add a mask citation. When the cops got there, did they issue citations to everyone that I'm sure was congregating in the parking lot maskless.

See, this is a perfect example of the judicial reform that is so badly needed in this country. The laws are just to strict and too harsh. I'm certain this poor man did not mean to murder anyone. Him remaining in jail will not bring the victim back to life. Keeping him in jail and most certainly a conviction will only add to our over crowded prisons. I demand that the laws be changed so that everyone is allowed on free murder at some point in their life.

Could have sworn I only heard 3 shots in the video.

Why did it take from May to December to indict?

As I said in the earlier post these Judges know what they are doing! They are releasing these fools so they can kill in their communities. Yes, you will have collateral damage! However these retarded fools like the smell of ass in the prison. Yes it’s sad to have a loss of life, however we know the risks of going into these places where fools, retards, guns and alcohol are present.

My people, stop going to these places, have your own house parties, then you can be selective of your company.

Yes, I used to go clubbing, but now I save my money and go to far away oasis’s where I can really party!!!

Didn’t he know that you aren’t suppose to kill people! Lol !

Can nothing be done to Green about all her blessings?

The way I see it, this one's mostly on the D.A.'s office for dragging its feet on the indictment, and the Lumumba administration for not pushing bench warrants for failure to appear in court. Of course the ROR release by Judge Green, perhaps as a slap at the D.A.'s office, or maybe just as her own version of bail reform, had real-world consequences for the people Javarious Stewart (allegedly) shot in a bar fight.

A review of the facts: In October, 2018, Javarious was charged with receiving stolen property, felony fleeing, and aggravated assault on a LEO. About seven months later, with no indictment in sight, he was released on his own recognizance by Judge Green. Seven months after his ROR release, and more than a year after he was charged, he was finally indicted.

Three months after his indictment (9 months after his ROR release), Javarious failed to appear in court and a bench warrant was issued, but apparently not served on him. Five months after that, he (allegedly) shot some people in a bar fight.

Judge Green was right that the state can't just hold someone in jail, indefinitely, without an indictment. BUT, she certainly didn't have to release him ROR. The more I learn about the history of the Hinds County D.A.'s office, the more stench I smell. It seems that the most recent former D.A., Robert Shuler Smith, wielded the power to grant amnesty to those of his choosing, simply by slow-walking indictments.

Green was right to set him free. He was in jail for nine months with no indictment. The fault again lies with RSS.

And people complained about Ed Peters!

Judge Green is not the problem. People need to be indicted sooner. Instead of giving millions to business that didnt need them, some of dollars should have been spent on additional prosecutors and judges to help move cases in court systems that have a backlog.

Kingfish,

Do you know if Javarius Stewart had any prior arrests before the Clinton incident?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
