Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Hinds is clearly off the chart and out of control.
Who cares anymore. This will end and we can not focus on this, as it will go away go back to not giving a damn about the other things that kill us which don't go away.
A few states did not report numbers this weekend. Should be a blockbuster record setting fearful day...
But the mortality rate is dropping like a ton of bricks, don't listen to those people who tell you that.
But governments aren't about asking; ordering is what they do. And they're getting a lot of pushback.
Even at the beginning of the pandemic, when fear and uncertainty were at their height, many Americans worried that they would lose more to economic stagnation and social isolation than they gained from society-wide lockdowns. Closing businesses and banning gatherings might slow the spread of disease, but it also chokes off commerce, kills jobs, and sends people to the brink of despair.
.....
Americans' unwillingness to be governed any further by officials who responded to the pandemic with a series of botched policy initiatives, personal exemptions, and seemingly arbitrary commands to the public is understandable. Why would you take orders from people who seem to have no idea what they're doing and clearly don't intend to follow the rules themselves?
Besides, it's not at all clear that the myriad dictates from authorities helped slow the spread of COVID-19 as promised. That's not to say they were entirely ineffective—experts debate the impact of the orders. But "months of mixed messages have left many exhausted and wondering how much of what they did was worth it," as a report in The New York Times concedes.
Several big-city mayors and top officials are acknowledging that weeks of anti-police protests and riots may have contributed to surging coronavirus rates, weeks after Democrats and even some epidemiologists openly encouraged Black Lives Matter allies to demonstrate in the streets.
In public statements and interviews with Fox News this weekend, officials in Los Angeles, Seattle and Miami-Dade County, Fla., have indicated that some link between protests and new cases was at least possible.
.....
"I talked again with Dr. Ferrer about that this morning," [Los Angeles Mayor Eric] Garcetti said, referencing Dr. Barbara Ferrer, the L.A. County public-health director. "She does think some of the spread did come from our protests," he added. "It’s not the act of protesting — that’s a great and American thing to do no matter what your opinion is... but protesting without maintaining physical distancing, without wearing your mask, without having sanitizer – we just have to be smart. Whether you’re at a protest or at your home, whether in your workplace or whether you’re out shopping, these rules don’t change."
12:58 We aren't even 10% of the way to the end. Hospitals in some areas are beyond capacity. This will get a lot worse before it gets better. Our best hope is to contain the spread as best we can until an effective treatment or vaccine is approved. Acting like things are normal again isn't helping at all.
1:15 That is a result of the politicization of the pandemic. The initial numbers coming out of China and Italy were bad. Once it became evident things weren't as dire as initially thought you had certain people calling it a hoax and a deliberate construct designed to hurt politicians.
The reality is the disease is still deadly and we would have been better served by a consistent message of acting in a safe and prudent manner so things could reopen safely. Yes, most things can resume but others needed to remain closed. Politics is what turned this into some kind of referendum on liberty rather than a consensus on what is best for America as a whole.
Research Determines Protests Did Not Cause Spike In Coronavirus Cases
The "liberal protesters spread Covid" explanation is one that has gained a foothold recently, especially among Republicans, even with a lack of scientific evidence backing it up.
The scientific evidence so far doesn’t back up that explanation: Last week, a team of economists also released a 60-page paper through the National Bureau of Economic Research, which found “no evidence that urban protests reignited Covid-19 case growth during the more than three weeks following protest onset.”
Tater's apologist finally sobered up long enough to cut and paste some drivel from Fox News and the Trump campaign.
Dang LibRuls!!! Yeah, so many tens of tens of them running about Mississippi with masks on!
Stop the excuses, Gunn, Tater, Guest, Cindy, and Hurst. You dumbarses not wearing masks is PATHETIC leadership.
The above is from that "librul" rag Forbes Magazine.
For those who cling to the protests as "the cause of the spike" theory, give it a rest. Of COURSE there are likely cases that arose from contact at protests. But how many people do you really think protested recently, as a percentage of the country, vs the number of people who gathered to celebrate memorial day or just to gather, as a percentage of this country of over 300 million people? I mean seriously? Are those of you who want to blame the spike primarily on protests really this dumb or just ridiculously transparent? It would be much better if you'd focus on the reality rather than the conspiracies or whatever your particular ill-informed political bent might be.
Anyone believing ANY "numbers coming out of China" is a fool.
Messenger shooters ready, aim, fire.
But how many people do you really think protested recently, as a percentage of the country, vs the number of people who gathered to celebrate memorial day or just to gather, as a percentage of this country of over 300 million people?
Give us your percentages.
% protesting:
% Memorial Day celebration:
% information gathering:
Put up.
PLEASE... someone tell me of one hospital in the Jackson Metro Area that is at capacity or exceeding capacity. thanks.
Only an idiot would think the protests, marches, burning, and looting didn't
increase the numbers of the virus. You can't have it both ways. I didn't see any of them social distancing, many without masks, and yelling at everyone. What else could equal the riots in spreading the virus.
People piss and cry about people not wearing masks but will make excuses for the rioters. That is the main reason people do not believe the masks and social distancing has worked.
Don't be stupid.
"We aren't even 10% of the way to the end." "This will get a lot worse before it gets better." I'd like to see the proof of that statement as I'm sure others would. I also disagree with your statement that this disease is still deadly. While we and the world have had deaths, we have had many more recovery's. The numbers do not support that. I for one do not take at face value the people who flip flop like Fauci, Birx etc as Gospel.
On 3 July 2020 The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 914 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 11 new deaths. Today's blog states MSDH reporting 357 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 3 new deaths.
Having retired from Medicine I hear differing aspects of our health care system being, so called, overwhelmed. I would like to know who was tested, why, symptoms, if any, immediate need for treatment OP or IP, etc. What's reported is actually not helpful at all at this time. Remember, in the beginning we were only testing folks that met specific guidelines. Now we are testing anyone who walks through the door, so more positives will be found, but are they actually sick or post infection.
I miss the days when all we had to protest and worry about were plastic straws. Which no one seems to care about as they rip off their disposable gloves.
Well 2:37, I doubt anyone has polled the entire country to determine those percentages. But let's use our heads. Statista.com says there were 128.58 million households in the US in 2019, with an average of 2.52 people per household. Although my head tells me that it's more, let's just assume that only 5% of households were around others, in groups of family, friends or strangers, to celebrate Memorial Day and "reopenings". Not counting church attendance etc. That would equate to a little over 16.20 million people nationwide. Again, I personally think more than 5% did but if you disagree, please let me know why. As to the number of protesters, I have no idea. I do find it hard to believe that 16.2 million people were out in the streets. If you have numbers to contradict that, put up. I do know that news reports from across the political spectrum refer to thousands of people protesting nationwide, not millions. As I said, of course protests likely caused some additional cases. To say that protests are responsible for the spike is asinine. Especially in Mississippi. Look around.
"PLEASE... someone tell me of one hospital in the Jackson Metro Area that is at capacity or exceeding capacity. thanks."
Uhh... just a quick reminder that 80% of the state live outside of the Jackson Metro Area.
We run a real risk of overwhelming our hospital systems -- or are you one of the ones who will never believe something until you get t-boned at an intersection and have to hang out in an ER for a few days until an ICU bed becomes available?
What is hospital capacity in MS? In the metro area? What is ICU capacity in these two areas? It would be much more helpful if the authorities would post hospitalizations as a percentage of capacity; raw numbers can show trends, but most of us have no idea when or if we are approaching a critical limit.
Also, I would be interested in knowing how much capacity is being consumed by COVID patients and how much is non-COVID. Other diseases and medical care needs didn't take a holiday, but lots of needed care was postponed in the early stages and may well be back on the table at this point.
We need More Protests. Apparently according to CNN this is the only time you are guaranteed not to catch it.
There were no protests within 100 miles of me in Mississippi but there are skyrocketing numbers of cases in my county after Memorial Day, church and businesses opening, and so on. There is no doubt where the cases are coming from and it is not protests.
According to the CDC, Mississippi currently has 63% of its approximate 1,250 ICU beds currently in use. We're not critical statewide yet, but neighboring states that are on the leading edge of the uncontrolled outbreak are at 75% - 80% capacity. Don't think it can't happen here. And that doesn't take into account regional capacity. I haven't found anything that lists it hospital-by-hospital. Jackson may have plenty of beds, but you could be completely out in Laurel or Meridian.
https://www.cdc.gov/nhsn/covid19/report-patient-impact.html#anchor_1587406849
2:58 - there may not be, I don't know, hospitals "IN THE JACKSON AREA" that are at capacity, but I do know that there are places in Mississippi today that you had better hope that you (or your loved ones if you have any - children, other family members) better hope that they don't have an automobile accident anytime in the coming future. If they do, or frankly if anybody - whether you love them or not - better hope that they don't have an accident or for that matter need any other medical attention in those areas. Because they are likely to be an additional thirty minutes or more from being able to get any emergency treatment.
Not everybody of importance, excluding you of course, lives and revolves totally around "the Jackson area".
Don't know specific ICU capacity @ UMC but know for fact UMC is/has been treating non-Covid adults in Pediatric ICU.
Yes UMMC is very near capacity. Everyone needs to take this virus seriously.
So is UMMC the only facility treating Covid? What about our other facilities in the area? The virus is being taken seriously, but it is not the only problem out there and will end/become dormant, etc while the other problems will not.
Here's one for the math wizards wanting more numbers on bed availability, whether they understand them or not. And I venture to state that it won't make any difference if they do, primarily due to the fact that we appear to be way past the "math is hard" part of the epidemic and full on into political perspectives on how we feel about the solutions.
Google Simpson's Paradox for today's math problem for all of the statistics wizards in this comment thread.
And btw, while you will only want ONE bed for yourself or family member, please be prepared to be transported to where that ONE is available. And it probably is not going to be in your first choice of locations. Cheers
8:29 I can confirm that. Adult patients are being placed in the children's hospital.
According to the graph above, there were 160 in ICU in Mississippi on June 29th. That is nowhere near 63% of 1250. It is 12.8%
I just got my test back since testing Thursday. The system was overloaded with test since July 1. I went to a private clinic that now has daily test results. I went because I was around 2 people who tested positive on Wednesday. Some others kin to them were tested and several tested positive. They would not have known that they had the virus otherwise because they had no symptoms. So every day there are people walking around that dont know they can give it to their friends and love ones.Thank God I tested negative . Not knowing was rough but not as bad as those that tested positive with no symptoms. You have to be a real selfish jerk to not care if you give this crap to someone else.Get tested if you have been around known positive folks.
10:54, you could be a false negative. You should still quarantine, unless you want to be a jerk.
10:48 The number reported by the CDC is the total ICU units being used, not just for COVID.
10:54, thank you for doing the right thing. Having an immune suppressed relative, I can't post here what I think of folks who refuse to even mildly inconvenience themselves, much less want to make a "political statement" on wearing a mask or social distancing.
Life is hard enough for the immune suppressed, even in regular times. Regular common infection can kill them, and it's NOT a person's fault if they get cancer or an autoimmune disease. The hate filled who spew venom at folks as though they "deserve" diseases don't have a clue, or a heart.
These are not folks who've partied away, smoking, or using drugs, or even being overweight. They are just sick folk, young, old, and middle aged.
FORTY PERCENT of the folks 20-55 years of age fall in the vulnerable population. That's someone in your family, your neighbor, your best friend's family. Your co worker or your employee. Your small group member.
And if you are more concerned with partying and your "FreeDumb" than spreading this to others with impunity, I just can't say much good about you.
But for those who care, and take the time to act, and to get tested, and wear a mask even if they don't think they are sick or anyone around them is sick, Thank You.
Wear a mask. Social distance. Don't gather in large parties. It's that simple.
11:22, so COVID apparently isn’t overwhelming the ICUs; it’s mostly other stuff?
1:15 Another way to look at it is 1 out of every 5 ICU patients are there because of COVID already. That would be on top of the normal other stuff.
With the dramatic spike in cases and hospitalizations over the past few weeks along with other states' experience with overwhelmed ICU capacity wouldn't it be prudent to ensure we don't fall into the same situation? Do you want to wait until we're in the same boat as Montgomery, Alabama or Texas Medical Center before doing something to slow the spread of the disease?
Baptist ICU at capacity.
44 new deaths with 34 of them being current reported today. I do believe that is a record. It is going to get worse.
