C-19 Update: More Bad News

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,025 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 18 new deaths. The total number of cases is 38,567. The virus has caused 1,290 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 48% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 22,167 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt factor is 1.07.

Hospitalizations? ICU's? Just read the chart and weep.

Cases going up the hotter it gets. Saw a theory tonight where AC might be spreading it.

I'd like to see the clinic-by-clinic data; there is reporting that some clinics have 100% positive reporting, and in some cases double counting of the same cases.

Economic and policy decisions are being made with inaccurate data. Show me the collection methodology and information assurance safeguards so we can have confidence in the data. Then, audit the data, and audit the death certificates against patients' charts to separate "died with" and "died from" numbers.

This is getting ridiculous and everybody knows how effed up the numbers are and they just look the other way.

Trust me...the same model/methods will be used to steal the election.

I don’t like the data, so I’ll cast doubt on the source. Pretty common propaganda technique.

Attack away, but spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt helps literally no one.

Hell KF I thought you said we had turned the corner back in June.

I’ll let you in on a little secret, you better be looking 3 weeks ahead with Covid.

Thanks to 7:14 am, Kroger is out of tin foil.

714 - show you all that detail so that you can be assured of what? You think you would know how to digest it? Maybe you ought to go to work for the MDOH, but I think they would want to see your credentials. Either your virology or epidemiology degree and training, or your statistical analysis ability. Or at least some reason that would justify your ability - that is at least equal to those that do this for a living -so that your results would be believable.

But your experience as an anonymous blog commentator would surely qualify you as an expert. Be sure to include that on your application.

Kingfish why do you let these crackpot conspiracy people comment such as 714. He obviously things there are black helicopters swarming overhead his house.

we had turned a corner. then summer came and people went out, shopping, dining, clubs, didn’t social distance or wear a mask, attended large events. you know-the things medical professionals said would spread it rapidly.

while europe and asia resume normal life, we are stuck (can’t travel outside of usa) in a country that is hesitant to do what is right and necessary to defeat this. we aren’t winning. it’s not under control. covid 19 doesn’t care if
you are liberal or conservative. it’s real but defeated in other places. why not here?

mask on, stay home if sick. your personal rights do not include clogging a healthcare system. we all pay for it in the end thanks to something called the federal government (supported by our tax dollars..)

Anonymous said...

Everyone that I've talked to about their recent trips to the coast, has said that there is zero distancing going on, and no widespread mask wearing being practiced. This from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach. Restaurants, bars, stores, amusements...business as usual, everything's fine, no worries.

Conspiracy theorists like 7:14 would be sad except for the fact that there are many, many more of them than you would expect in what should be a first-world country like the U.S.

It is quite simple. Unless people do things to control the spread of a contagious disease, that disease will propagate among the population. In the case of a viral respiratory infection such steps include wearing a mask, maintaining adequate distance from others, and limiting gong out as much as possible until a vaccine or treatment is developed. Mississippians are not doing that and as a result the disease is spreading uncontrolled.

The Rt is dropping some, but all that means is we are settling into the new normal of 1,000+ cases per day. Mortality rate is starting to increase a lot too. The death-by-date chart shows we hit a record high in the last couple of weeks.

Just go ahead and call off fall sports. The MHSAA isn't unbiased and is pushing what is in their best interest. With things just getting worse every day the governor needs to step in and put a halt to such insanity. Get the kids back in school safely, but that can't include competitive sports or group extracurricular activities until our infection rate is brought down closer to countries like Germany.

Agree with 7:14s clarification of "... "died with" and "died from" numbers"...

If 50%+/- of all people walking around have C19 but don't know it and don't show symptoms, then it's logical that 50% of all who die are probably found to "have" C19 in their system. It is what contorts the numbers.

I immediately dismiss anyone who says "tin foil" because the foil has always been aluminum. And of you can't even get that right then you are an obvious brainlet with a room temperature IQ.

I appreciate Medical people so much. Thank you. Thank you. Unfortunately I know Health systems were and are in reaction mode from this horrible virus but now that is has been traced and One Lady has been counted in the Florida count 15 times and now confirmed also has happened in Ohio ( I can definitely see how it happens we gave 200 tests today and 10 were positive but if Patient 2 was counted yesterday and last week that is messing up our new case numbers. But 1035 gets your attention n matter if 45 are duplicate counts but we do need to clear his up. But yes Thank you Thank you Medical workers.

9:18am You really are bad at math and science and logic. All your comment does is tell me that you are either not well educated or were socially passed in these subjects.

7:14 is spot on. The calculations that are provided to us from health organizations and/or agencies need to be accurate. The only criteria is you must start with good data and if you catch later that the data has weakness such as did a person die from the Covid-19 or did they die from a heart attack then those revision will come but that shouldn't be the norm. Most of this is basic statistic. It isn't necessary for a person to work in a laboratory, be a mathematician, or work for MDOH to understand simple ratios for basic information. By the way, policy and economic decisions are being made from this data. Remember the 4 Trillion Dollar CARES ACT from a just a couple of months ago. Accuracy Matters. BWC

Might want to start looking if "recovered" keeps up with the increases.

We didn't think at first that children or young people could die of this , but they have.

We don't know the effects of repeated exposure yet. It's that a factor in how sick you are?

We don't know if those with continuing effects will fully recover or not.

This virus is mutating ( that's from scientists who are doing the research instead of those relying on their feelings).

The virus cares only that your body is available for it's survival.

Dr. Dobbs has repeatedly stated that when a person gets tested, retested, and retested again that it is only counted as ONE TEST. Can't say that's what's happening in other states, but it ain't happening here.

9:18 Except that the number of excess deaths over average since March just about equals the number of COVID related deaths. If, as you are alleging, half of the deaths are being improperly treated as COVID deaths then we would see a massive drop-off in other deaths compared to historical average. We are not.

Are some deaths from other causes being attributed to COVID? Sure. Are some COVID deaths not being properly counted? That is true too. But there is nothing to support the allegation there is widespread manipulation of the cause of peoples' deaths due to COVID.

And your logic is flawed. 50% of COVID infected people being asymptomatic does not corollate to 50% of all people who die having COVID. The populations bases are completely different.

9:36 Foil has not always been aluminum. Prior to 1926 foil was made of tin. It is almost exclusively aluminum now, but the "tin foil" moniker stuck around. Get your facts straight before you start accusing others of mental insufficiency.

It's been funny, the evolution of some covid deniers as the disease gets closer and closer to their front door. Then when it kills someone they know, they really change. A guy I know went smooth from "it's all a hoax" to "all we need is zyrtec and antacids but the government doesn't want you to know that." There is just an endless supply of paranoia in this country.

I agree with 7:14 in not suspending reasonable questions when so much policy is built on numbers and trust. All those pearl clutches should just remember - WWSD. Because Shad would be asking the same questions.

Kingfish it's crazy that you publish complete nut job conspiracy comments like 714 all day long, but i make a comment about the new private data collection and you don't allow it. Biased much?

Kingfish said...

Ok, leave the election crap out of it.

I have seen quite a few comments such as 714 on social media. I don't think they should be ignored but I allowed it because I knew y'all would knock it down. Sunlight.

Anonymous said...

Other than his last sentence, how can you definitively debunk 7:14's theory?

Anonymous said...

Nobody said shit about an election, only that the white house is getting rid of the CDC data collection in favor of their own private company and that the process wasn't transparent. It's relative to the thread bc everyone likes to comment how the data is manipulated to make Trump look bad or something. I know it's not a convenient fact for a Trump supporter like yourself, but you can deny it.

Anonymous said...

We are now sending patients out-of-state.

Sad.

The CDC's efforts some years ago to collect and publish data regarding firearm deaths in this country made that organization the target of the NRA and as a result the Breitbart wing of the GOP will continue to mock and denigrate any efforts of the CDC to relevant.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
