Wanted: Used Push Lawnmower

The Jackson Zoo was forced to go a'begging yesterday:

No words are needed.  Sad.  Very sad.

So much for the city taking care of bidness. Good job, Antar & Virgi.

“Self propelled” - apparently beggars CAN be choosers.

Where is mayor Lumbago

As Granny Clampett tearfully said to Uncle Jed:

"Pitiful Jed . . . that's just plum pitiful".

In the months to come the animals that survive will learn to panhandle at certain busy intersections around town. The kangaroos have a natural pouch which give them an advantage but I'm betting on the monkeys if there are any left.

"Self-propelled" Well, you don't want to work these slackers too hard. Oh, and just don't show up with your donations without calling first, as they may be on their hourly 30-minute break or 2-hour lunch.

Slackers? That staff works its ass off. It has been overworked and underpaid for a very long time. When the zoo was missing payroll nearly two years ago, they stuck it out and didn't quit. There is plenty to knock city government about but that zoo staff isn't it. You should hope government employees elsewhere follow their example.

set them free. they'll do fine. plenty of wilderness in the area

How I wish those poor animals would be moved tonight.
(And that's nothing against the staff)

God Bless those employees !

Residential self propelled mowers are heavier and just piss me off. Give me a lighter mower that is easier to handle any day. I've never used a commercial grade self propelled.

The mayor couldn't get his ego out of the way and move the Zoo when he had the chance. It would absolutely thrive in the museum district, which is still in Jackson, but not in the part of Jackson he wants it in. Pathetic lack of leadership from a complete and total loser who could not get elected dogcatcher anywhere else.

Anonymous said...

@5:30 - then you've obviously never owned/used a decent one.

Anonymous said...

Shut it down or move it somewhere else.

Anonymous said...

Moving the zoo was never an option. That was just a pipe dream started by some clueless posters here on JJ, and it’s taken on a life of its own. Building a new zoo would cost hundreds of millions, which is impossible for a city that can’t even afford to fix its crumbling sewer system.

Anonymous said...

I thought you conservatives preferred private donations over public funding. Now you guys are sending mixed signals. What did I miss?

Anonymous said...

KF is so predictable and easy to troll.

Anonymous said...

Fucking pathetic - a city office begging the public for equipment. Hey Chok, why don’t you ask your wife for some of that dispute resolution program money she’s got stashed away in your freezer?

Anonymous said...

why isn’t the zoo open? it could make a ton of cash right now. social distance? check! outdoor? check. beer food trucks? ask and they shall come...

Anonymous said...

Never seen a city with a zoo beg the public for a lawn mower before. Sad.

Anonymous said...

7:33, I think most of us conservatives would agree that the zoo is a costly extravagance and should be closed.

As long as we're bitching about how the City spends its money, maybe someone can figure out why we are paying a beat unit to sit in the church parking lot across the street from hiz honor's house 24/7. Why are they taking one of the precinct units out of service for taking calls instead of paying an off-duty cop to do it?

Anonymous said...

Basic, brand new self-propelled can be had for $325. After getting us into this mess Antard you can't dip into your personal pocket and cover this?

Anonymous said...

Since Fat Melvin works for the city now (which makes it easy for him to cry about remaining locked down) why not have him do the job with an old fashioned push mower? Grass gets cut, Melvin loses some poundage, win-win.

A new Zoo in a different location would be a good thing, but Rankin and Madison Counties should share the cost as their population would attend the zoo often, if located in a safe area.

Welcome to Jackson the BOLD NEW CITY

6:20 am As long as we're bitching about how the City spends its money, maybe someone can figure out why we are paying a beat unit to sit in the church parking lot across the street from hiz honor's house 24/7.

WOW! Learn something new ever day on KF blog every day.
Crazy how the Democrats elect the most radical mayors.

If Jackson cared about the animals they would
move it McClain Lodge in Rankin county. It would do great their.

"A new Zoo in a different location would be a good thing, but Rankin and Madison Counties should share the cost as their population would attend the zoo often, if located in a safe area. "

Good idea. By "share the cost" you must be planning on locating the zoo in Rankin or Madison County, right? So the name will be changed to Mississippi Zoo, right?

Or are you thinking of "a safe area" within the Jackson City Limits? Bwa ha ha ha ha ;-)

@9:43AM

What do you think admission fees are?

@ May 15 - 7:17...Moving the zoo was NOT a pipe dream. I heard rumors that the same Construction Company involved in the highway & Street paving made a proposal to build a HUGE 1 acre Zoo, complete with bike paths, walking paths, and parakeet cages for between 95 and 98 million. And that included the 1 acre of Land.

They "donated" a ballpark in Pearl..

Maybe city should have invested in mowers instead the COVID tracking software Antar brags on. Not that anyone at the City is qualified to use the software And interpret the data - well maybe Kenny “Sunday Press Conference” Stokes. I’m sure he is capable.

I've got a 2002 craftsman riding lawn mower for em' if they will pick it up.

It still works fine,

It probably needs an overhaul and new blades.

But from what I'm hearing . . . sounds like The City of Jackson can't even afford to sharpen the existing blades.

Anonymous said...

It really is pathetic they have to beg for a lawn mower. What is even more pathetic, and even more disgusting, is you have so many animals there right now living in isolation. Their two biggest animals, the lone rhino and the lone giraffe, have lived alone for over two years now going on three. They are joined by two different Colobus monkeys, klipspringers, that poor bear and others. Good job mayor and those in charge!

Anonymous said...

I don't even want to think about these poor lonely animals. It's disgusting. Find a way to get those animals in other competently run facilities far away from here.

I could say put a viewer's gallery, with popcorn, at the City Council chambers and charge fifty cents, but that would not be nice.

Anonymous said...

Isn't 1 acre about the size of a football field? Not exactly HUGE.

Cynical Sam said...

Close the zoo. Cut losses. Move on. Denial is not a river in Egypt. Put your huge ego aside, Baby Chock-wad.

Oh wait, those decisions would require leadership.

Will the last person leaving Jacktown please turn off the light? Oh wait, Entergy will have already done that.

Kingfish said...

As I've said before, Lefluer's Bluff is a great location but a horrible site. The area floods. It is very hilly. It is only 25 acres, the zoo is 33 acres and frankly, many of the exhibits are already too small. That leaves no room for expansion or other projects.

What are some sites? Over at the old auction site by Target. Up I-55 by that Chase building in the middle of nowhere. Sulphur Springs wouldn't be so bad it if wasn't so far off the interstate. Building it by Continental Tire would work. Of course if there was a way to build near Trustmark Park, that would be nice too. I"m just not familiar with the land in that area.

Seems like the international zoo company that Chokwe promised would be the one donating the lawnmower.
What is the status of Zooquarium? Transparency? Demand the status of this now. Otherwise ship off all six million dollars of animals. Film a horror movie there as a sequel to the horror story that is Jackson leadership.

Anonymous said...

11:55--Great point. One would think a Dubai based international company who, apparently wants to manage the zoo, would have a vested interest in keeping the lawn mowed.

Anonymous said...

" Dubai investing in Jackson, Mississippi."

That's funny !

Anonymous said...

"self propelled push mower"

Make up your mind.

Zooceanarium's website tells you all you need to know about them. The mayor immediately jumped on their bandwagon without checking them out. Now he cant admit to all the lies he told the council and citizens. October 1 they announced they were in final stages of talks. Same on November 14. Then in March he said they would have a signed contract to present to the council at the next council meeting. And again nothing. How could these self proclaimed experts not even know you need a USDA exhibitors license to operate? Maybe they listened to the mayor too much. Did you watch the tele conference they had with the city council? They refused to answer any questions until a contract was signed. The mayor needs to man up and admit he has mishandled this from day one. But we all know he wont.

Is it just me?

Anyone else notice that since Baby Chock make the big announcement about enforcing regulations preventing homeless people from camping out under Interstate overpasses that a new colony has appeared at I-55 and Northside?

Anyone else notice that Pear Orchard Road in front of Baby Chocks gated community (the old Sweeny Place) just got a new coat of blacktop?

Leadership? More like pressers and no action. What a d#uche bag.
Sayinig' for a friend.

I noticed that within 36 hours,

I also noticed the homeless demographic are the only ones trying to comply with Lil' Man's "orders".
( And that's only because they are a poor group than can expect the only enforcement).

The remainder of Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba Junior's constituency laughs
at him every day.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
