Coventin convicted of manslaughter in 2010 Jackson Walmart homicide
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On Friday evening, May 15, 2020 Rankin County K-9 Deputy Tony Shack and his partner ‘Voodoo” were working a criminal interdiction detail when he attempted to make a traffic stop on Interstate 20 on a Nissan Altima bearing Florida license plates for a traffic violation. The suspect, Lee Anthony CORENTIN evaded the stop and began to actively flee the deputy in the vehicle. Deputy Shack pursued the vehicle through Rankin County and into Scott County where he was assisted by other local agencies. The suspect exited the interstate near Lake, struck Deputy Shack’s vehicle and then got back on Interstate 20 westbound. The suspect continued westbound back into Scott County. Rankin County Deputies were able to deploy “stop sticks” just west of the City of Forest. The spikes disabled a front tire on the vehicle and slowed the suspect down. The suspect then crossed the median in his vehicle and entered the eastbound side of the interstate in oncoming traffic before driving off the shoulder and down in to a ditch. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Deputy Shack followed the suspect across the median and stopped on the shoulder of the east bound lane. Deputy Shack was getting out of his vehicle to deploy “Voodoo” to apprehend the suspect. Before Deputy Shack was able to release his K-9 an oncoming vehicle struck Deputy Shacks vehicle knocking it into the deputy. Deputy Shack sustained numerous injuries. A Rankin County Paramedic Deputy began immediate treatment of Deputy Shack’s wounds. Deputy Shack was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center in Jackson escorted by Brandon, Pearl, Flowood, and Pelahatchie Officers along with Rankin County Deputies.
K-9 Deputy “Voodoo” was visibly shaken up by the incident and was immediately cared for by other Rankin County K-9 Officers. “Voodoo” is recovering at a sheriff’s office facility and is being monitored by deputies.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded in force and is investigating the accident.
Deputies from Scott and Rankin County and the City of Forest were able to quickly apprehend the suspect in a wooded area nearby. Lee Anthony CORENTIN was transported to the Rankin County Jail and was booked on the charges of Felony Fleeing and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Lee Anthony CORENTIN will go before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel for an initial appearance. CORENTIN will be presented to a Rankin County Grand Jury by Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett.
We are so thankful God placed a protective hand around Deputy Shack and Voodoo and protected them from more serious injuries. We are so thankful for the safety of all officers involved last night. Thank you to all the agencies in our law enforcement family that responded last night. It is such a good feeling to know that when you call for help, an army of blue shows up!
Please pray for a speedy recovery for Deputy Shack and comfort for “Voodoo” while he is separated from his handler.
Kingfish note: Some folks may take issue with the headline but the archives of the state newspaper spell out his story.
The suspect was born in 1991.
A life born with promise as all babies are but young Lee Anthony made his share of deadly mistakes.
The Clarion-Ledger never reported the outcome of his case but the court docket states:
03/07/2013 | 21 | PLEA GUILTY - COUNT 1, MANSLAUGHTER, 20 YRS MDC, 5 YRS SUSPENDED, 5 YR PRO BATION, CONCURRENT COUNT 2 Book: 0753, Page: 539. (Entered: 01/01/2017) |
03/07/2013 | 22 | PLEA GUILTY - COUNT 2, 15 YRS MDC, STRONG AR M ROBBERY, CONCURRENT COUNT 1 Book: 0753, Page: 540 |
Corentin apparently served only a few years of his sentence (assume there was credit given for time served) before release.
It will be a surprise if Judge McDaniel gives him a bond.

Remember, the ACLU in Washington DC is suing Mississippi to have inmates released during the coronavirus pandemic.
This perk will be out in no time to kill, main, & destroy honest hard working citizen. Thank YOU! Deputy Shack, Voodoo, & all other hard working law enforcemnet officers who risk their lives every day to pull these criminals off the street!
Quarantine Corentin in prison for the remainder of his life.
Great headline, but wasn't there a human injured as well?
So, it looks like he's been at least arrested for two murders, and had from 15-20 years to serve on a conviction for manslaughter. But, he's OUT? Is this the "nonviolent" offender set we are putting out on the streets in "prison reform?" So, he kills working productive black men, one of whom ostensibly is supporting a child in some way, and attending a community college, but HE's "the victim" of "injustice?"
No, society, the men's families, the child, we all are victims of an insane leftie "prison reform" movement. And, so is the deputy injured.
Was he wanted? Any outstanding warrants?
Here we go again: FELONY FLEEING.
Remember last week, the "runner" in Madison? Well, here we go again, except this time a deputy was hurt.
STOP FELONY FLEEING !
"Kingfish note: Some folks may take issue with the headline but the archives of the state newspaper spell out his story".
So what ?
Who cares what those people think ?
You are only reporting facts.
The media, as well as ex-pres Obama are responsible for the reluctance of our LEO to shoot these bastards instead of deploying stop-sticks.
@3:30 Because responsible journalism, whether or not it's a blog or national news, includes relevant facts.
Good on you for the additional info, KF. Besides, this judgmental flock of keyboard warriors you have here need one more reason to hate this guy so that they can say stupid shit and condemn other peoples' lives to hell as the model souls they so hypocritically type themselves out to be.
the clarion -ledger and jimmy gates headline about ''high profile'' murder cases................what a joke.
a murder in jackson is ''high profile'' for about 24 hours until the next one takes place.
there are so many murders nobody knows a ''high profile'' from a ''low profile'' case. and that goes for the chief of police, the mayor , the city council, and the district attorney.
" Good on you for the additional info, KF."
Quick basic English lesson for 8:40 PM:
It's (Good FOR you KF . . . not good ON you KF)
Geeze.
If you're going to counter another post, please at least use proper English.
But back on topic, spin it however you wish, this thug should have still been locked up.
@9:49 I typed it the way I meant it. It's proper grammar, albeit mostly used in Australia or Ireland meaning "good to you" or "well done".
If you're going to correct someone, at least do your homework, genius.
"STOP FELONY FLEEING!" Please expound. Does this mean Felons need to stop fleeing or do you mean that LE should stop pursuing people who break laws, even the so called routine traffic offense. People usually run for reasons, may have just assaulted or killed someone, kidnapped someone (as the unfortunate incident with the Domestic Violence Victim from Canton) outstanding warrants, knowing they have no DL or a Suspended DL, being DUI, or any of a plethora of reasons. Maybe LE should just let those that decide not to stop a free go. Never know. Please help the ignorant.
The fleeing, itself, is the felony. It's kinda like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. Anyone who does it is not in a rational state of mind, and should therefore be presumed dangerous.
