Mississippi Covid-19 Update: Back Up Again

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 393 new cases of the Wuhan Virus as well as 15 deaths today.   The total number of cases is 10,483.  The virus has caused 480 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 47% of overall Covid 19 deaths in Mississippi.  More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website.

Hospitalizations fell to 410 patients yesterday.  Welcome news, to be sure, but it has yet to fall through the lower line of support at 399.  The number of patients in ICU's decreased to 131 patients while vents fell slightly to 72 patients.  The chart was good news yesterday but not enough to make a positive trend although the trends are not getting worse.

KF, you could get your wish - the MDOH could wait to release any information until it had all of those metrics in hand, instead of releasing each when they get compiled.

That way, you could be spoon fed all your info at one time as you would like.

Do you really think they have it all compiled and ready at the present time, but are holding back the other items that you want until later just to be an a**hole and p**s you off?

What's up with Madison County and Scott County? The per capita rate is enormous.

This is no way to run a war

I'm going to go out on a limb and say their increases are diametrically opposed. Scott County due to low income, tight knit community, multiple families in the same house due to poverty. Madison County all one has to do is ride through the neighborhoods to see the party going on. People in the driveways drinking and hanging out, kids playing together, and house parties and cookouts.

@11:40 Remember all the illegal workers rounded up in the ICE raid in August in Forest and Morton? They and their families are still living in the area and the virus is running through that whole group. Some is also going to be spread at the chicken plants, but Tate said most of it is due to community living conditions.

@11:40,

Not sure about Scott County but hoards of Hinds County residents are coming to Madison County since Hinds County and Jackson are shut down. It is amazing to see how the are not following guidelines. It is shocking to see how they dispose of any masks and gloves that they were wearing. Yes, I know they are Hinds residents from their tags. Their business is welcome here IF they will be responsible citizens and take their dirt PPE home with them. If you're too lazy to walk to the nearest trash receptacle then at least wait until you return to Hinds County to toss is on the ground.

@12:01 - plenty of partying going on in Rankin County as well. It's by county which includes Canton, Camden, and surrounding communities many of which live in similar impoverished conditions.

I live in Madison. I don't know a soul in the city of Madison with Covid nor does anyone I know (not saying there aren't any... I just don't know them). The Madison cases are from Canton.@12:01 you are a moron

Canton. Lock down Canton.

i’m sure glad i’m wearing a mask these days.. with all the new surveillance paid for by soros, hillary, and secretly implemented by gates with microchips in vaccines so they can control us. and when they see who i am with facial recognition they are coming for my guns.

Anonymous said...

Reminder that Canton is in Madison County.

@12:03, can you provide a source or is it your assumption that it’s “illegals” ?

Anonymous said...

KF, Did you know the common cold is a type of coronavirus.

Anonymous said...

Since daily cases go up & down so much I think the weekly totals would be more telling.

Anonymous said...

KF do they publish the recovery rate? I just found out in my state the unreported and never spoken recovery rate is approaching 90%. With Nursing Homes skewing the total number of cases and deaths.

A local TV station has a theme Facts not Fear but never release anything but total cases, new cases, total deaths and new deaths. So It goes for all the media.

As with everybody the highest death rates is age 65 and older.

Seems to me the cases per 100k population for Jackson are relatively low. The mayor must have done something right. And before you flame me, no, I do not live in Jackson. Eh, who am I kidding, some on here will trash me anyway.

Yes Canton is in Madison County, so is Ridgeland, Flora, Gluckstat and Madison. But if you want to send some aid to your neighbor please go by MCCAP or Our Daily Bread and give a donation, they would be greatful for help.

You sure it's Canton?

I know of a nursing home in Madison that had 14 cases and that was two weeks ago. Oh, I mean retirement community. Sorry.

If you don't know someone who has it, then it must not be true! You think you know a lot of people, but you don't. A tiny % of the entire county. Get over yourself.

1:15- Are you saying it’s okay if old folks and nursing homes residents get decimated? As long as you’re okay? If so, you’re a moral imbecile. A lot of those people had years and years of life left. The fatality/recovery rate has to be considered alongside how virulent and easy to spread the virus is. If just about everybody gets it and the fatality rate is low, it’s still an incredibly tragic event with a ton of deaths. The point is not whether you feel personally threatened or not; the point is you have a moral duty to minimize your role in spreading the virus because there are people out there who are threatened.

They are saying they are scared shitless. Doesn't matter that death will visit each and everyone of us eventually and when it is ready, virus or no virus. Know several Madison County folks, including Canton, who have been infected. Know at least 5 that have died. The state infection rate, today using numbers above, is less than 0.003% with the dead making 0.04%. Not sure I agree with "A ton of deaths" quite yet. I know, but the models say this and the projections are that. Those don't matter until and if it happens. Just like the Hurricane Spaghetti models. Hundreds of places but usually near one of them. Stay happy and safe, well, safe. Yes make sure you don't add to the problems and remember to stay 6 feet apart and in a room with 10 or less, Whatever that will do as sneezing and coughing travels up to 20 feet or so and it one takes one to infect others, but hell, it sounds good.

@1:15 Go to the MSDH website linked in the post and scroll to the bottom. Number recovered is listed there although it isn't broken out by LTCF/other totals. As of today there are 6,268 presumed recovered.

" Number recovered is listed there although it isn't broken out by LTCF/other totals. As of today there are 6,268 presumed recovered. "

I noticed that too.

I find those recovery stats aren't broken down into the same sexual and racial metrics.

Why is that ?

BTW, I find it Humorous when the "medical experts" use the phrase ( presumed recovered ).

WTF ?

Anonymous said...

Speaking of scrolling to the bottom of MDH’s website, that’s where they bury the total number tested metric. Over 100,000 tested, but good luck (still) with finding out how many tested on a daily basis. Until they report that number, the daily reporting of new cases is garbage. We have no way of knowing if the infection rate is rising. MDH must receive that data in order to update the total number tested, so why won’t they release it daily?

Given that there are about twice as many black folks with COVID as white folks on Madison County, an educated guess would be that Canton is an area where there has been a big increase. But without more detail on the areas of the county, it isn’t entirely certain.

Anonymous said...

Why can't we have the number of people infected broken down by zip code? What value does breaking it down by race bring to the table? I live in Madison also, I do not know anyone who has been diagnosed nor does anyone I have asked.

Anonymous said...

Good grief, saying it's "Canton" is part of what is wrong with people's take on the virus. Do you know how large the "Canton" zip code is? From Gluckstat to 43 by part of the Rez, to almost the Benton exit area, and beyond on 55,down the Natchez trace, etc. Lots of rural homes, lots of areas. Madison county is Madison county and it' s here. It doesn't matter where you live in Madison county.

I have known of a person (nurse) from Ridgeland with it, a person from Camden with it now in the hospital and of that retirement home KF mentions above. Yes, it was 14 cases at that "lovely, upscale" retirement home in Ridgeland on Highland Colony a few weeks ago. I'm sure the cases are higher now. Had a relative there, who is now in another facility down the road where knock on wood there are no cases. These are not nursing homes by any means, these are high rent, upscale places but you can't stop the virus it seems with the frail and the older people at a lot of these are. (Plus the employees come and go and they were doing that well before we knew how the virus was). This is a good lesson to see which facilities are handling this right when it gets time to place someone...

If you don' t know someone who has had it in Madison county or the tri-county area , you probably know someone with a cold, etc. who might have had it or had it months ago and no one knew it was here yet. I've known a couple of people who were really sick around Jan. that tested negative for the flu, etc., spouse included.

Spouse has been working in this mess (Madison county) and said "most" people that come in their business do not wear masks, so much so that the employees feel uncomfortable.

But some attitudes of I am not going to get it because I live in this part of the county, not in xyz county, etc. are ludicrous.

Anonymous said...

I'm 9:45. I would like to correct my comment. The above mentioned retirement home I typed Highland Colony. It is actually just off of Highland Colony...you make one turn off Highland Colony and are right there.. didn't want to be misleading.

Also, if you glance at the obits now, a lot of the obituaries have started saying so and so was a resident of xyz home or community, etc. and died of COVID ...

Anonymous said...

@9:45. I’m sorry your spouse has to work around that, but reassure her by reminding her that the mask, any mask that’s not a full, charcoal filtered respirator, is completely useless both at protecting yourself and protecting other people and is merely, at this point, a dose of hopium and/or virtue signal.

Saying that is likely Canton where the virus is spreading most is based on the demographics of Canton. We aren’t talking about zip codes. Twice as many blacks have been identified as victims of the virus in Madison. . That doesn’t mean it isn’t found throughout the county, but the question is why and where is it increasing so rapidly? Identifying the communities where it is rapidly spreading might assist in helping people in those communities be more aware and do a better job at limiting their exposure. It isn't about racism, but, it is about helping those folks who are most at risk be aware that they need to take appropriate measures to limit the risk. Precautions should be taken wherever one lives, but awareness is especially important on the most vulnerable communities.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
