Governor Extends Shelter Order

Playgrounds open with strict guidelines Monday.

Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement at his daily Covid-19 briefing.  The video is posted below.

Today, Governor Tate Reeves announced the next steps for Mississippi to continue safely reopening the state's economy and getting people back to work while protecting public health.
In a new executive order, Governor Reeves has extended his Safer At Home order and accompanying amendments for another week until 8:00 AM on Monday, June 1 to continue flattening the curve while allowing Mississippians to safely get back to work and move around their communities.

Executive Order No. 1488 also adds Holmes County to the list of hotspot counties under additional social distancing measures to help slow the spread within their communities.

"We cannot ask the people of Mississippi to do more than they are able to do for a sustained period of time. Over the past two weeks, we have steadily opened up more and more of our economy. That is good and right. It is necessary. There are very, very few businesses still closed. There will still be some guidelines in place for businesses—but we will be out of the business of closing down anybody," said Governor Tate Reeves.

Governor Reeves also issued another executive order to begin safely reopening outdoor recreational facilities to give Mississippians an outlet to take care of their mental health. Detailing strict social distancing guidelines, the new executive order takes effect at 8:00 AM on Monday, May 25 until 8:00 AM on Monday, June 1, coinciding with the new deadline for the Safer At Home order.

Governor Reeves announced his new executive orders at his daily press briefing today, which you can view on our Facebook page here.

The strict social distancing guidelines implemented under Executive Order No. 1487 to safely reopen outdoor recreational facilities include:

OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
For businesses/facilities:

  • Before they can reopen, the entire outdoor park must be deep-cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized top to bottom, including areas not open to the public.
  • All outdoor parks are expected to take every step necessary to implement the regulations, orders, and guidance from the Mississippi State Department of Health and CDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
  • Waiting areas and lines must mark spots at least 6 feet apart to ensure social distancing. Employees must be stationed there to make sure social distancing is followed.
  • No more than 50% of the outdoor park's capacity.
  • Outdoor parks must post signage at each entrance stating no customer with a fever or COVID-19 symptoms are allowed in.
  • Equipment must be rearranged and/or deactivated to ensure at least 6 feet between customers.
  • All high-touch areas must be sanitized at least once every two hours.
  • Hand sanitizer must be placed at all entrances.
  • Food services are allowed, following restaurant guidelines under Executive Order No. 1478.
For employees:
  • All employees will be screened daily at the beginning of their shifts, including asking whether they have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days and have they had a fever in the last 48 hours.
  • All employees must be provided training on how to limit the spread of COVID-19.
  • Face coverings must be provided to all employees. Employees are required to wear that face covering throughout their shift and clean or replace daily.
For customers:
  • Customers must be screened upon entry into the outdoor park.
  • Customers must sanitize their hands upon entry and when moving between rides or equipment.
SCHOOLS & SPORTS COMPLEXES
  • Schools may open weight rooms and training facilities for use by students, following gym guidelines under Executive Order No. 1480.
  • Team practices at outdoor sports complexes and multi-field complexes and schools' outdoor practices are allowed to resume, following outdoor recreational activities guidelines under Executive Order No. 1478.

The governor can take his "safer at home" order and bury it deep up his ass.

I don't care who dies as long as people keep exchanging slips of paper so that I can stockpile slips of paper and stay rich!

Lord Tater Tot, my liege. It's good to be King, or Queen, whatever.

Keep it up guys. The more you dig in against mask usage and insist on having block parties with hundreds of attendees the longer this will go on. The problem is those that have completely ignored the existing safer at home order will not do anything different going forward. The infection rate has been consistent for the last five weeks. Mississippi has one of the highest infection rates in the entire United States. Other states may have been higher in the past but they have made improvements while we're still stuck in last place. Typical.

Deep cleaning a park? That’s outside where the sunlight kills the virus? What a dumbass bureaucrat.

How I wish Hood the hood won.

outdoor equipment sanitized? what a waste of money and resources...are we sure he's an "R"? sounds more like a commie to me..

I missed most of today's presser.

( Caught something at the end about the Department of Employment Security)

Anyone know what that was about ?

I do know that even after three months that agency is still unable to be pay anything to thousands of unemployed Mississippians.

@2:48 - We’ll put that on your tombstone.

You vil komply. Ve know you have a sister in Tupelo.

Who let the sheep out? Baaahhhh Baaahhhh Baaahhhhh.

Just saying said...

Not to be controversial but at 4:05 what makes you think that you will be around when at 2:48 makes his departure? I'm just saying. You had no say when you made your arrival and odds are you won't have none in your departure. I've seen the prudent, most careful leave unexpectedly, while those I classified as foolish remain with us. Who among us can know his expected end? Maybe you have the answers, Grasshopper. Please enlighten us.

Could the arrival of the Miss.NG back in country have any connection to the governor's "safer at home" extension?
Surely, the guard members will be tested for the virus before being allowed to return home. But will the results be made public.

" Keep it up guys. The more you dig in against mask usage . . . "

And what ?
What's your point ?

No permit is needed for open carry either.

Just an observation.

I hope the infection rate stays high. Hospitals are empty. That's the whole point of flattening the curve. Keep infection rates manageable. If hospitals are not stressed, keep opening up.

Mama dies in the hospital all alone for the last two weeks. Pick ten members of the family to have a service at the funeral home or twenty to say goodby at the cemetery by the ORDER. But, grab the kids after tee ball practice, meet up at Applebee’s for some wings then go play a round of putt- putt. What’s wrong with this picture?

If there were an outbreak in a rehab facility that relies on donations, and the CEO of that facility wanted to continue to send individuals out in to the public who had been exposed to or potentially carry the virus, how would an employee who knows about it anonymously hold the CEO and other upper management accountable for it?

Is it even legal to knowingly send a sick person or asymptomatic person out among the public, knowing that they had been exposed to an outbreak?

Is 3:22 Debbie Downer or Kommunist Karen? Please name some times when "hundreds" of locals of locals were having block parties here in Lumubaville.

@4:05 please tell us exactly how you plan on dying since you have decided you will not die of Covid 19?

At the state Capitol, the signs at the elevators require that only two people on board at a time. There are no signs at the Woolfolk Building and signs at the MDOT buildings say four people per elevator! What the hell is the difference?????

From the Executive Order

OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
For businesses/facilities:

 Before they can reopen, the entire outdoor park must be deep-cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized top to bottom, including areas not open to the public.

The “entire outdoor park must be deep-cleaned.”

What in the hell? What in the hell is “deep-cleaned” and where in the universe did that term come from? This is unscientific and really stupid beyond belief.

From the CDC:

I think maybe we’re misreading the new order.

Page 2, # I says applies ONLY to dangerous counties. For most of state, shelter at home ends May 25.

No?

8;54am understandably pondered the mysteries of:

"The 'entire outdoor park must be deep-cleaned.'

What in the hell? What in the hell is 'deep-cleaned' and where in the universe did that term come from? This is unscientific and really stupid beyond belief."

What did you expect from a bank-teller-turned-lifelong-politician and a passel of redneck minions, scholarly research or even NEJM and Lancet articles?

In the meantime.... business after business are either permanently closing their “doors” for good or filing for bankruptcy protection. All the while driving unemployment up and tax revenue down.

Makes complete sense? Huh?

Understood holding the curve until we got our sh!t in order from a healthcare perspective. We have more knowledge than we did when it first hit. Medicine that works, ramped up testing, enough ventilators and enough sense to see this virus is wreaking havoc on the elderly, folks living in long-term care facilities, and people with underlying health conditions (make them vulnerable to many things not just COVID-19). If you’re not in one of these groups chances are you’re in pretty good shape of not catching it.

Can’t make stupid a crime. It’s everywhere. The “goberment” shouldn't take it upon themselves to dictate how most “adults” choose to live their daily lives. We all make choices and take risks every single day. It’s called adulting. If people can’t figure out how to wash their hands after going potty, stop picking their noses, or don’t sneeze or cough into their elbows- there is no hope for them - no number of “restrictions” will stop this sort behavior. Ever. Heard of Typhoid Mary anyone?

For the rest of us it’s time to get on with life. Preventative measures for this “virus” haven’t really changed from the same “preventative” advice given to the public during the outbreak of the great flu (viral too) pandemic of 1918. A.K.A. Spanish Flu. Washing your hands regularly, avoiding obviously sick people and/or wearing a mask in crowded situations (subway, airplane, bus, parades, etc.). All of which is solid advice for life with or without COVID-19 floating around. Though nobody should be forced to wear a mask, forced to get random temperature checks, or forced to stay indoors arbitrarily.

We have given up too many of our personal freedoms as it is over the past two months. We will NEVER get them BACK.

TSA anyone? Overzealous. Non-efficient. Overly intrusive “screenings”. Take grandma and grandpa down. Please remove your ponytail holder from your hair. Could be hiding something. You have water, the horror, in your backpack. Let’s see what other restricted items you might be hiding! Talk about loss of privacy and personal liberties and for what? To stop Muslim men determined to kill Americans? Who were able to get through existing x-ray security with box cutters and not raise any suspicion? No checked luggage or carry on bags? We can’t profile people who fall into the “most likely to kill us” bucket because it would be mean and racist! So we all suffer for the sins of a few. It’s absolute absurdity that we willing fell in-line and accepted this “new normal”. Let’s hope we aren’t foolish enough to do it again.

Tater and the rest of the overly excited and restrictive happy politicians, police state cities and counties can stick it.

Moving to Florida is looking better and better every day that passes. Mississippi remains last in so many important measures, and at the top for many things nobody should be proud of. The least of Tater’s worries are how clean we should be keeping kiddy parks in Madison. All these years of buying off the business votes by slashing their taxes will come back to bite us all in the you know what. And soon.

@11:18 what, specifically, makes any “county” dangerous right now???

The same people are at risk no matter what county one resides in. Common sense and a sense of humanity should be dictating how we’re living our lives right now. Not some government bureaucrat’s idea of “dangerous” in a thinly populated and exceptionally rural state. We aren’t NYC and we now know who is truly at “risk”.

The most sensible action re the virus is emotionally condemned by the rednecks of Mississippi while Japan enjoys using common sense

https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/03/coronavirus-pandemic-japan-shows-masks-help-slow-spread-covid-19/

But it's that hard nosed fight against common sense that keeps the state right where it belongs at the bottom.

If our "esteemed" president had worn a stylish face mask adorned with his favorite sport's teams logo back in January the US might have enjoyed as quiet a time as Japan.

12:00, I’m just saying what the order says. Write Tater a letter; leave me out of it.

10:06, the comments section of JJ isn't the best place to look for legal advice. Generally speaking, though, you should document everything. It will be helpful if there is an EEOC/OSHA claim, or if they get sued by an individual who gets sick.

I'm sorry I can't be more help. I actually think I know which rehab facility you're talking about. They're especially horrible to their employees.

Literally nobody will follow these rules as there is no real enforcement authority, and by the way how do you deep clean a playground??

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
