Nursing home residents are 41% of all Coronavirus deaths in Mississippi even though they comprise only 12% of all cases.
There were 123 deaths in nursing homes. The overall Coronavirus death toll in Mississippi is 303 patients. Lauderdale and Monroe counties reported the most nursing home deaths. The counties reporting such deaths are:
1. Lauderdale: 14
2. Monroe: 14
3. Forrest:7
4. Lincoln: 7
5. Leflore: 7
6. Chickasaw: 6
7. Madison: 6
8. Pearl River: 6
9. Calhoun: 4
10. Adams: 4
11. Hinds: 4
12. Pike: 4
32% (39) of the deceased patients were black while 68% (84) were white. The racial composition of the death statistics are the complete opposite of the overall death statistics for Mississippi. 56% of the deaths are black while 43% are white.
The picture gets somewhat better for actual cases (MDSH term for reported infections.). Nursing homes reported 872 Covid-19 cases but those only made up 12% of the reported cases in Mississippi. The counties with the most cases reported in nursing homes are:
1. Lauderdale: 91
2. Monroe: 87
3. Lincoln: 48
4. Leflore: 42
5. Pearl River: 41
6. Jackson: 39
7. Madison: 33
8. Holmes: 27
9. Lafayette: 24
10. Smith: 23
10. Calhoun: 23

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Does the nursing home death total include nursing home patients that were transferred to a hospital and later died there?
The long-term care (LTC) facility numbers put out by the state are inaccurate. The MSDH web site says there have been a total of 15 LTC cases in Hinds County, but one nursing home in Clinton recently had over 40 residents test positive. Why are those cases not being reported???
11:39. Usually not reported as a NH death if death occurs in the Hospital. At least not part of protocol I'm familiar with. That would be like saying someone died at home of a AMI when brought into the ER in Full Arrest than pronounced in the ER.
@11:54 a.m. Thanks- what I thought. So, we are likely looking at an even greater percentage of nursing home patients making up MS's ~300 deaths.
And how many of them would be dead within 180 days anyway? Covid did not kill these people.
And for this we have destroyed our economy and the livelihood of millions.
That's stupid. These folks weren't in hospice. Yet again the Tea Party Death Panels (Profit over People) speak up with derp on behalf of Rich guys with safe houses and piles of sanitizer.
Don't be stupid.
We are facing 3000 EXTRA deaths a DAY from Covid.
That makes it 4 to 10 times worse than WWIIif we don't soon get a vaccine. And folks some scientists are predicting this will be annual vaccine.
And plenty of 20 to 50 years olds are going on vents and into ICU, that never suspected they were vulnerable.
Stop the BS. Trump and the Teatards are toast. Move on, help folks live, and do the right thing.
Try to expain the "constitutional" right to blow off wearing a mask in a pandemic or to lift weights.
You are foolish to count on getting a vaccine. How many vaccines for viruses are there? We don't have one and don't know when we will have one although there are some glimmers of hope out there.
It's even more foolish to think that mask-wearing will have any significant impact in lessening the spread.
It is a feel-good measure, at best, that is likely to do more harm than good. The average person is better off just assuming everyone they encounter are contagious and take appropriate precautions, rather than mandate something to make it seem like a government entity is doing something.
Universally wearing masks is the definition of false sense of security.
KF@1:20 - Not only do we not know when or if a vaccine can be produced, we don't even know if people form antibodies, how effective such antibodies would be, or how long they would protect someone from reinfection. Despite decades of research, we still have NO vaccine for the common cold which is also a coronavirus.
@1:32 PM, Your statement is mind bogglingly stupid. You are so obsessed with being anti mask you dont seem to ignore the FACT that masks reduce viral load. And that even a 10% to 20% reduction in viral load is better than nothing. Yes an N95 or P100 respirator is better. But not everyone has access. And China internationally mislead the world so their agents could hoard the best PPE on every continent.
@1:32p- I saw this analogy in a Facebook comment this weekend. The commenter was TRYING to get a clown that thought masks were stupid to understand. I'll try his analogy on you...
Here's the simplest way to demonstrate masks are effective... if I pull down my pants and piss on your leg, you are definitely going to have a piss-covered leg. If I piss my pants while wearing them, you leg is dry. Get it now??
KF, a better question is how many serious contagious diseases don't have a vaccine? Ebola and HIV/AIDS are the two that come to mind. SARS & MERS had development done, but they faded away before the potential vaccines could go through human trials. The flu mutates relatively quickly, but a vaccine is available that is at least relatively helpful. The common cold is caused by a variety of viruses and it just isn't cost effective to develop a vaccine since hardly anyone would take it every year.
If a vaccine can't be developed then we are screwed. That would imply immunity is not possible and even those that had it already would be susceptible to reinfection. A therapeutic treatment would be the only hope. Given how contagious and deadly COVID is I'm putting my hopes on an eventual vaccine even if it has to be given every year.
Masks increase the number of contacts of finger/hands to the face, exponentially.
Masks DO NOT protect the eyes
Masks DO increase the viral load to someone who recently contracted the virus
People DO NOT keep a mask secured when they sneeze and/or cough
Masks DO NOT decrease contact transfers
Masks DO provide a false sense of security because wearers ASSUME protection instead of exercising caution.
Single point multiple contact individuals (waiters, checkout persons, etc) would likely benefit the public by wearing a mask sense they would be primary vectors.
Good practices are much more important to limit exposure than either carrier or not wearing a mask
Typically, N95 & P100 (oil resistant) masks are used by commercial painters & drywall/sheetrock finishers. A N95 (N = not oil resistant) is designed to only filter out 95% of particles larger than 0.300 microns (millionth of a meter). Any crease, or even brushing the mask against something can affect that part of the masks filtration. Its impossible to maintain a seal on your face, while performing tasks. When speaking, jaw movement will break the seal. Durable, reusable Respirators with replacement cartridges, require Fit Testing, & each time used, positive & negative pressure testing, & cleaning. By definition, an aerosol is defined as 5.0 microns & smaller. When someone coughs, speaks or sneezes, aerosol particles are created. Even a mask rated at N100 will filter 99%, but 0.300 microns is still the smallest size. For comparison, a human hair cross section is 50 microns. The smallest particle your eyes can detect is 40 microns. 2 studies have found COVID-19 in sizes as small as 0.125 to 0.004 microns, which indicate that aerosol COVID-19 can pass through a N95 with ease. These are not meant for viruses, which as a general rule, are 100x smaller than bacteria. Tuberculosis is transmitted via bacterium. N95 are recommended protection for treating patients with Tuberculosis.
Then you have to sample the amount of COVID-19 in the area atmosphere, as even respirators rated to filter particles as small as COVID-19 have a Permissible exposure limit (PEL), a regulatory limit on the amount or concentration of a substance in the air. A 0.300 micron dust particle (the smallest a N95/N100 will filter), released in a SEALED Room, with normal Atmosphere, will take around 8 hours to fall the 8 ft height. With air movement, it can travel an enormous distance. Ideally, Hospitals need a negative pressure "Dirty" changing room where all clothing, glasses, footwear is removed & placed in containers for decontamination/disposal. Then healthcare providers should have to go through a shower room to remove any contamination on their body wearing disposable booties that are discarded. Then they should enter a "Clean" room to don their clothing, footwear, glasses that has not been exposed to the hospital atmosphere. This is SOP for employees who work with even chemical hazards.
Nursing homes are not all created equal.
Even the most posh and expensive "apartments" are just as depressing as the basic facilities.
Better carpet in the hallway, landscaping, and such . . . but that's about it.
Most of these residents are confused on a good day.
Now, many of them are scared to death.
Some have no idea of what's going on.
Much less understanding the new "rules" are for their own good,
All they know is that their loved ones haven't visited in three months, they can't recognize their regular
staff as the staff are dressed in HAZMAT garb.
It's tragic from every angle.
What we cannot accurately measure is the percentage of families who are secretly relieved when their old, old relatives expire in those $10,000-per-month nursing homes, from whatever cause. The only ones weeping sincerely are the corporate owners of these warehouses, who lose a tidy sum each month when one of their “tenants” goes...
@237: more like pissing through a chicken wire fence. The 0.13 micron virus passes through homemade porous masks like water flowing through a chicken wire fence.
A N95 masks would be the closest thing to pants. And yet, water will pass through that into the air where you can breathe it or it can enter your body through your eyes.
/fify
What about the P95 and P100s?
Using the logic that purports wearing face masks is useless because they only offer limited protection from the virus would lead to law enforcement trashing their flak jackets.
If the masks work, why can't everyone go back to work?
I worked in nursing homes for 15 years. The greatest blessing there is death.
