Marcus A. Williams . . . . . . . 259 35.92

Horhn faces Dr. Claude Brunson's Chokwe-backed son-in-law. Can the wiley old vet put away the young pup?

Lee D. Vance . . . . . . . . . 3,042 39.97

Surprised Green is pulling 15% of the vote. Expected a runoff. A little surprised Sheriff Mason is pulling nearly a third of the vote. Apparently there is no Yarber effect for the incumbent.

Jim Hood. . . . . . . . . . . 5,325 69.54

RSS is no truck driver. The drug-dealer defending District Attorney barely campaigned and didn't raise any money. Hood wasn't going to be caught napping as Vicki Slater was. Said all week there was a 50/50 chance Tate avoids runoff. Let's see. Waller simply waited too long. He should have started the year with $1-2 million already in the bank. He didn't need to match Tate dollar for dollar, he just needed at least $3-4 million to get his message out and build up a GOTV effort. However, most of the big money donors and PACS were already committed.

Can someone post a link to the Madison County results? In years gone by the Circuit Clerk Office website posted up to date results. Sadly, no more or else the link is buried on the website.

Hood has about the same amount of votes as Tate does and Hood has 7 other felons, I mean politicians, running. Only a small percentage of the results are in but as many have speculated Tate just isn't well liked.

Legit question for the keyboard political analysts on here. ASSuming a runoff between Mr potato and one of the other two. Who wins?does support for the third party go to the anti Tate candidate?

I coulda ran for Governor as a democrat and I would not have come in last place. Geez.

Robert Foster is so different than Bill Waller, I can guarantee you his voters will back Tate and Foster himself might endorse Tate if there is a runoff. And there may not be a run off.

Foster is no idiot. His future is bright if Tate wins and Foster is on board. Waller is a one and done candidate.

Truly anemic turnout in NE Jackson. Terrible for Waller.

The baby boomer generation is the worst thing thats ever happened to this country. Until they die off, you can expect the political machines to continue to run the show. Unfortunately, when they die off, it will be too late. That spineless generation has screwed their grandchildren over.

Foster was on the right of Tate. I just don't see Foster's people all leaping over and joining the far left Waller crowd. The Waller crowd is the same group that would have voted for Hood but now they can claim to have supported a republican.

Not to mention, Foster knows his political future is bright if he backs Tate at this point. Waller will be in a nursing home in 4 years so Foster gets nothing out of backing Waller.

Anonymous said...

Baker. Goes. Down. In. Flames.

Fitch going to a runoff helps Tate, especially since her opponent will not be Baker. Taggart and Waller will be painted so liberal you won't recognize them in three weeks.

Anonymous said...

“1,455 margin between Taggart and Baker. Should Baker have attacked Taggart instead of Fitch so much? Did they take Taggart for granted? Something to ponder on the tree of woe, grasshopper. “

It sure would have been nice for the NEVER TRUMP TAGGART to have lost last night instead of Baker so we could be guaranteed a good AG either way.

Now we’ve got to get the Run Off vote out and make sure someone claiming to be Republican but would have preferred two Clinton SCOTUS picks over Trump’s Gorsuch and Kavanaugh…doesn’t slither into office.

August 7, 2019 at 1:51 AM - I voted for Reeves. I held my nose as I did, just as I did for Trump. I voted for him simply because he was the only one on record who was opposed to expanding Medicaid. I really, really wanted to support Waller, but this issue was too important to me.

Anonymous said...

Would someone please tell these white folks they don't own the Republican Party (Trump Does). When I went to vote I had one of them ask me what I was doing in the Republican Line.

Reporters question: Could you be so unlikable that you won't win your home county?
Tate's answer: Jim Hood won't but I will!

The Feds will foot a majority of the program!? When will many of you start thinking for yourselves instead of letting your chosen party do your thinking for you???

Both Foster and Waller understand that - along with a bulk of the voters in the biggest counties in this state. Thank Gawd Madison and Rankin County got a clue!

@6:42 Agreed. Why the hell did an old man in overalls behind the table ask me what party I was? And then send me to "the republican table"? I told him I was an Independent, and he replied, "We don't have that." He said, "Are you more liberal or conservative"? and the old fool tried to explain to me the difference with a scowl on his face like I was an idiot. He probably would have blown a gasket if I told him I was Libertarian.

I thought open primaries they weren't allowed to ask your affiliation....

To the people saying Foster will back Reeves, you have lost your damn mind. His dislike for Tate is the sole reason he entered the race.

I don't know? There are so many variables and too many people taking stuff for granted.

Lucien Smith was bragging on Paul Gallo this morning on how many people voted in the Republican primary.

But at the same token you look at some of the counties Tate Reeves did win, more people voted in the Democratic primary instead of the Republican primary.

Then who's to say more Republicans crossed over to vote in the Democrat primary opposed to the Dems that crossed over and voted in the Republican primary?

The only guarantee is that Tate Reeves has the gulf coast on lock and neither Hood or Waller has a chance down there. But when you look at the rest of Mississippi, Hood and Waller will give Reeves a run for his money through November, if Waller doesn't knock him out on August 27th

Hood—-was comical last night. If he gets elected governor he is gonna clean up corruption. Hello! Hasn’t he been the chief law enforcement person in MS for the past 8 years? Funny, fun, fun.
R governor race— Daddy Waller is dead. Let him Rest In Peace. MS for far too long has been stuck in the pass. Tate was impressive in debate. His knowledge of MS was superb, but he has been Lt. G. for 8 years. Impressed the way he defended himself against attackers with FACTS. Foster has a bright future in MS politics. Foster would be foolish to back Waller, & I don’t think he’s foolish; Waller is the past, Reeves the present, & Foster the future. Foster voters will definitely vote for Reeves. As said, Waller is history. Plus, MS can not afford Waller’s liberal ideas.
R AG—- Fitch is the one. Look for Baker’s supporters to with for her. She is a great lady! People do not trust (Kasich)Taggart THE NEVER TRUMPER. 2 conservative USSCJ, a booming economy even with people like Mr. Taggart fighting his ever turn.
The winning ticket: Reeves/Fitch

@7:25 am - Madison county voter here. I waited in line for over an hour and a half to vote. I showed up at 6:30 like I normally do due to having to be at work by the time the polls open and my precinct being out of the way. I've never had any issues. There was a line out the door due to the machines breaking. The precinct subsequently ran out of paper ballots and there was a single emergency machine that required a special ballot. The poll workers counted out how many emergency ballots they had left and turned away the remaining voters (at least 5 or so) and there were a handful that left when they found out about the wait. At some point around 8 pm, a county or GOP official brought more ballots to the precinct so the line moved faster. I heard there were issues at another Madison precinct as well, so apparently the voter turnout in Madison was higher than anticipated. I find it shameful as well that our turnout is low. If you can't be bothered to vote, why bother complaining?

The fact that people think Bill Waller is liberal blows my mind. For 20+ years he wrote judicial opinions that are anything but liberal.

Anonymous said...

MS for far too long has been stuck in the pass. Tate was impressive in debate. His knowledge of MS was superb, but he has been Lt. G. for 8 years............. Reeves the present, & Foster the future.

No one else sees the irony from this post? LOL!!!!!

You can't talk about Mississippi being stuck in the past when all Tater Salad could muster for his campaign talking points is to MAINTAIN Mississippi's CONservative values.

There's no bright present or future with anything pertaining to Reeves or Foster. They'll continue making life easy for Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, and Arkansas while maintaining Mississippi's ass-backward image

Anonymous said...

10:44 that goes for whites voting Democrat too?

That's Mississippi politics for you. The parties are racially divided in this state

However, at least there are white Democrats that are able to win office with black voters

Whereas the Mississippi GOP has still not elected a black Republican to public office since reconstruction.

11:37 Irony? Define please? How is the post ironic? Many of us may not be as intelligent as u.
Tater Salad? Characterization indicative of ones intelligence.
I suspect that both Mr. Reeves & Mr. Foster have both been far more successful & productive in their lives than u. I further suspect that they both r far more respected in their communities.

"The fact that people think Bill Waller is liberal blows my mind. For 20+ years he wrote judicial opinions that are anything but liberal."

Sadly that is the Reeves spin machine. They claim he's a lifelong democrat, not knowing how Mississippi's primary system works and him living in hands county. Hopefully he can raise the money and defeat Tate. Our roads are latterly crumbling before our feet and Tate is touting he is not raising taxes. Our state is broke. Yes our taxes are low, but we are living in a shit hole compared to other states. How else can we function? I hear him talking no new taxes, well just with inflation in the past few years, if we want to keep up, something has to get cut. I haven't heard him mention not one thing about cutting programs.

Side note, Tate's Finance Chair is Billy VanDevender and he is directly and openly opposing the pumps the South Delta needs to keep from being under water for over 6 months. People without jobs, farmers(one of MS's biggest industries) not being able to make a crop, all their input retailers not selling, and road beds under water. Why no one is making a scene about this is beyond me. Yazoo, Warren, Sharkey, Issaquena counties Reeve's shouldn't have gotten a damn vote.

The story has not changed. If the black vote turns out, Hood wins regardless of who is the Republican nominee.

Anonymous said...

@11:37 THANK. YOU. Waller is NOT liberal.

This tactic of trying to out-right each other is nauseating. What do ideas matter when I've got a picture with Trump proving I'm a Republican? PUHLEASE.

Glad it didn't work for Johnny Black, at least.

It amazes me how these revisionist historians all forget that everyone, repeat: EVERYONE, thought Trump's candidacy was a joke at first.

Anonymous said...

Supporting Medicaid expansion is far from conservative. Whether you like or hate Reeves, he is the only one standing firm against that boondoggle.

Anybody that has been on this board gripping about Obamacare for years cannot support Waller without being a complete hypocrite.

Anonymous said...

@11:21am - You should ask the Madison County Election Commissioners and the Madison County Circuit Clerk why precincts were running out of republican ballots not posting the question here. That problem and failure lands squarely in their respective wheel houses. From what I hear, the Republican committee contracted with the Madison county election commissioners to run the republican election for them. I would love to know what their answer would be.

The democratic committee ran their own.

Anonymous said...

Looks like ole Gov Feel Bryant ‘s endorsement didn’t mean much

And Cecil Brown's even less.

Reeves will squash Waller like a bug in the run-off. And will beat Hood by 10 or so in the general. All of the Never Tate conservatives will stick with him in the general.

You used the word "future" in your post and conservatives do not look to the future, because the definition of "conservative" is 'holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.' or 'a person who is averse to change and holds to traditional values and attitudes, typically in relation to politics.'

So, yes there was irony in your comment by using the word "future" referring to any "conservative" politician in Mississippi.

Now I didn't question their productivity as human beings or levels of success. They have both won positions in public office. Kudos to them.

It still doesn't change what they have done or would do with higher office and how their positions on public policy are not in the best interest of Mississippi in my personal opinion. Especially considering our neighboring states are kicking our collective butts economically.

Anonymous said...

12:33, Thin-skinned sarcasm? Check. Responding to criticism with personal attacks? Check. Is that you, Tate?

Anonymous said...

11:37 u r sick to suggest that there is no place in the future for traditional attitudes & values.

11:37 u r sick to suggest that there is no place in the future for traditional attitudes & values

Well when you stick to traditional attitudes and values, guess what happens? You are not growing and adapting to the environment. You are not learning from your mistakes, because you assume you are already doing everything right.

Tate Reeves harps on conservative values, which means he wants to return to the glory days of segregation, Jim Crow, and Color Codes.

That apathetic mindset is what keeps Mississippi at the bottom. Time to get some folks in there that don't want to keep Mississippi at the bottom

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
