Soros Drops $500,000 on DA Race

George Soros contributed $500,000 to a PAC supporting Jody Owens for Hinds County District Attorney.  The Mississippi Justice & Public Safety PAC spent $205,191 as of July 30 on the race.  WHitney Tymas and our old friend Nsombi Lambright operate the PAC.

Jody Owens raised $118,874.  Darla Palmer collected $50,094 while Stanley Alexander raised $31,000 in donations.

This is creepy

Soros would not drop that kind of money on a candidate unless Lumumba asked him to. Shows you what we will get if Owens wins.

Darla and Stan are both highly capable, which of course lessens their chances of winning.

Anonymous said...

No wonder my mail box has been so full of Owens cards. Wow. That's almost as much as Waller has raised for a state-wide race.

This election could be a real tipping point for Hinds County. It is so hard for me to fathom that we could get a worse DA than RSS and also lose the board of supervisors to Bennie Thompson. So many white people in the county are all-in voting for or against Tate or looking at other state-wide GOP primaries that have zero bearing on their day-to-day lives. Meanwhile.....

If you are conservative or moderate, you don't get to vote against this move by Soros unless you vote democrat!

Anonymous said...

I'm voting democrat in the primary in Hinds County. I guess that eliminates my chances of running for state office one day (Sam Britton)ha, but Hinds County better wake up and realize how important this election is. You want to have a say for sheriff? DA? Supervisor? Vote democrat on Tuesday.

Just this week we have seen Bennie Thompson, Kenny Stokes and now George Soros chiming in on little ole Hinds County.

Who gives a crap about state treasurer or secretary of state when this crew is coming for us?

Waller lives a few houses down from me in ME Jackson. He's one of the nicest people I've met. Unfortunately he raised little money and has absolutely no chance of winning. As far as Jody Owens is concerned... He's a wolf in sheep's clothing and I'm all for Darla.pppp

Because of it's demographic makeup Jackson and Hinds County will be an excellent laboratory for ultra liberal and socialist strategies. If enough of these extreme cadres can be put in office, they can implement their agendas in a large enough forum to attract national attention. If they fail, which is quite likely it won't matter because the whole world knows Jackson and Hinds County was failing anyway. It's an excellent opportunity. Nothing lost. Everything to gain.
We are about to become a "sanctuary county"

Anonymous said...

Hinds County is not failing. There's been signs of hope the last 6 years (coincidentally since Stokes quit the board out of frustration).

Come back and ask me again after Tuesday and I might change my mind.

Darla announced at a forum at the Art Museum that she has had two bouts of Cancer over the last two years. Much respect to her for fighting the good fight but we can’t elect someone who knows they will die in office. We did that with the Mayor’s father and everyone knew he was terminally ill. Vote Stan for DA.

Anonymous said...

Owens spent 30k of his own money in his race which is more than Stanley raised all together. If you want to support someone do it with your wallets.

Anonymous said...

To be a Jackson blog you do not understand Jackson politics. Voting for Stanley is like voting for Foster for Governor. It is a wasted vote. Like it or not Robert Smith is loved in Hinds County. He beat the brakes off of Stanley for years ago and legitimate or not he went on to prosecute Robert three times. Black folks see this as the abuse on the system since he took him to Rankin County when he couldn’t convict Smith in Hinds County. Hello - To Kill a Mocking Bird Mocking Bird. Hinds County voters do not forget.

Kingfish said...

Of course you conveniently leave out that RSS was trying to throw in jail prosecutors and a judge in an attempt to protect his drug dealer friends.

Anonymous said...

Cancer is not Darla’s probably. It’s that she boast representing 1000 felony cases in her career and will have 1000 conflicts. I can live with Stan or Jody. I have worked with both and they are both reasonable.

Anonymous said...

Aren't the George Soros conspiracy theories considered sort of antisemitic?

Anonymous said...

Soros is the lowest form of life existing! He’s more un American than you can find anywhere.

Anonymous said...

12:58 that’s a horrible post. Shame on you.

Anonymous said...

Sadly, very very few people in the county (any county) understand the importance of a DA election. Everybody wants to talk about sheriff or governor, but in this county the DA is the biggest issue we have. Wake up people! Darla or Stanley please!

Anonymous said...

You are missing the point. A first year law student knows you can’t lose an election then prosecute the guy who beat you. If it was a case Guest would have taken it in Rankin County.

Anonymous said...

11:48 - did you intentionally skip over the more important (and recent) statewide candidate that has voted in every Democratic primary -- BILL WALLER - including the most recent state election? Pulling out a two decade old vote of an elected Republican official who is now running for a down-ticket race for you example seems strange (unless, of course, you happen to support Mr. Waller).

Considering that many of our elected officials have 'converted' from their prior days as Democrats I am sure that there are several that have voted in a democratic primary in their history.

But the fact that a candidate running for Governor who has never openly claimed to be a Republican until his qualifying statement was filed; who never voted in the Republican primary during a state election seems to be a case of omitting the most obvious example while you were trying to cast shade on a lower elected Republican official.

Anonymous said...

I don't know much about any of these folks running. Can anyone talk about why Darla is a good choice?

Anonymous said...

Did someone post that there were, in Jackson, 'signs of hope in the past six years'? That's when I switched to another thread since one had gone to shit.

Anonymous said...

George Soros? Why does he care about Mississippi? How is he even alive? Isn’t he in his 90’s?

Anonymous said...

I hate George Soros' politics and the fact that he sees fit to pour his wealth into liberal political causes. On the other hand it is HIS money and I think he may be a person of character. This is from the WIKI piece under his name:

. . . his family survived the war by purchasing documents to say that they were Christians. Later that year at age 14, Soros posed as the Christian godson of an official of the collaborationist Hungarian government's Ministry of Agriculture, who himself had a Jewish wife in hiding. On one occasion, rather than leave the 14-year-old alone, the official took Soros with him while inventorizing a Jewish family's confiscated estate. Tivadar saved not only his immediate family but also many other Hungarian Jews, and Soros later wrote that 1944 had been "the happiest [year] of his life," for it had given him the opportunity to witness his father's heroism. In 1945, Soros survived the Siege of Budapest, in which Soviet and German forces fought house-to-house through the city.

The happiest year in his life? He was fair game for a gas chamber, along with his dad, mom, pet cat, everybody. I guess I have to say I admire his character. Does that make me a "limosine liberal?"

Anonymous at 5:09 PM,

Are you for foreign meddling and influence in US elections at all levels?

Anonymous said...

Soros gave Roger Wicker less than $5000

Anonymous said...

Dear Mr/Ms Messick,

I only approve of foreign meddling and influence in U.S. elections if it helps my candidate.

George Soros is an American last time I checked. I sure do not approve of his meddling but consistent with constitutional law political money is "speech." First Amendment says his money can say whatever he wants it to say.

I know it doesn't seem right that a non-Christian foreign born person can be a real American (and it doesn't to me either) but that is how this country works. Isn't it?

Anonymous said...

@ 5:54
Remember the U.S. has been busted meddling in foreign elections plenty of times. Most recently The Obama administration was caught meddling in the election in Israel and backed the losing candidate.

Signs of hope....$1.5 billion plant that will employ 2,000, a board that terminated multiple unscrupulous contracts, and roads in every direction from my house being paved. Better than the last two decades for sure. Why do you think Bennie is getting involved?

Anonymous said...

Soros survived by fingering his Jewish neighbors to the Gestapo. He admitted to it nearly 30 years ago on 60 Min.

Anonymous said...

Keep in mind Soros also funds the same "criminal justice reform" bs as Joel Bomgar, Grant Callen, and AFP.

Anonymous said...

Those trying to prop up Soros as some prince of benevolence cloaked in good intentions, simply do not know Soto’s past, present or future. I get beyond the cotton candy drivel that the progressive stenographers and influencers does not take much effort to discover all about Soros and his disciple sons. His image is heavily protected because his money and policies control the democrat party, just as they covered for Weinstein, Epstein and The Clintons. Even without the histrionics and analysis of Soros the man, one does not have to wonder why Soros is investing in 34 DAs across the nation or the outcome of their performance as DAs.
Look no further than Kim Fox, of the Jussie Smollett travesty, to see a Soros DA.

Prepare for the suspension of quality of life laws - what’s a little public defecation and nudity?
Say goodbye to “minor property thefts” - why worry about shoplifting under $600?

Do your research on Soros, better yet look up Soros’ dA’s, no sane person can do so and think any city, much less one in Jackson’s current state, improves under a Soroscowned politician.

All these people talking about George Soros pouring money into Mississippi politics

While the Koch brothers do the exact same thing with the Mississippi Republican led legislature. Hell, a majority of the bills passed the last session were written by conservative advocacy groups they find.

But we're just going to ignore them?

Anonymous said...

4:19, I think the comment was about signs of life in Hinds County, not Jackson. And yes, there are a few specks here and there.

Anonymous said...

As much money as the Chamber,Kochs and all the other Republican dark money groups have thrown around Missippi, this is chicken feed.

Anonymous said...

@12:24 AM - spot on.

The Koch PACs don't want to turn us into a socialist nation. That is exactly what Soros intends to do.

Anonymous said...

The take-home message of this thread should be that one depersonalizes the opposition at his/her peril. I got zero use for Mr. Soros, his politics, his religion, his bullshit tens of billions of dollars, his degrees from the London School. Whatever you got, I loathe him and all like him . . . but that does not mean he is not smart, formidable and (perhaps, only perhaps) a man of character.

Who incidentally changes his mind on a dime. Read "Fooled by Randomness." And on that topic cf. John Maynard Keynes for loyalty to ideas.

It is stupid to underestimate people based on CBS's 60 Minutes and other entertainment shows/newspapers. The fact is Mr. Soros survived being gassed and went on to make billions of dollars. Just lucky? Maybe so.

Anonymous said...

The kochs brothers back a large number of democrats also. Remember they didn't back Trump and have pledged money to support only democrat presidential candidates in 2020.

Anonymous said...

This blog spot has several comments it skims through and select ones that go along with its point of views and only posts those. Why post a comment section if you’re not going to allow the viewers to read ALL of them? Just like a red neck Mississippian with its one sided views.

Anonymous said...

Good grief!
Soros has been painted as a boogey man with false stories. His family , with his help , created fake identity cards for Jews during WWII so they could escape Germany. He's contributed to both parties.
I hate PACs too. I hate that those outside a State or County can interfere in our elections. But, blame the conservative appointees on the Supreme Court for sanctioning something that dilutes the power of individual votes.

Anonymous said...

Soros is a big proponent of open borders and a universal currency. He uses his money and politics to create crisis, bankrupt countries, and wreak havoc to get his way. He also does this for his personal financial gain by speculation. The Koch's may give a lot of money, but they aren't evil with it. He is wanting to get DA's and politicians to change policy to fit his agenda through massive amounts of cash. I understand someone giving some money to possibly need a favor here and there, but his motives are one likely to disrupt and destroy this country.

Anonymous said...

Kochs brothers donated massive sums of money to Chuck Schumer and pledged large sums of money to the 2020 democrat candidate as opposed to Republican. Democrats have received money from the Koch brothers for the past 15 yrs. Don't be stupid. It's both parties.

Anonymous said...

Look at George Soros bought DA's around the country. They all have a "soft on crime" approach to the justice system. They had to take that vow in order to get Soros money. Another characteristic of Soros DA's is they have mass firings when they take office. So Hinds County prosecutors ya'll better start looking for another job.

Anonymous said...

The people screaming about Waller voting in a democratic primary obviously don't understand Mississippi's primary system as well as hinds county. Hell, Lester Spell had to run as a democrat for Agriculture Commissioner because of Hinds County and those like it. He is far from a democrat. Fear tactics from the Reeve's camp is all that is.

Let us not forget that Tate Reeves Finance Chairman is Billy VanDevender who penned a 3 page letter to the MS River Commission speaking out against the backwater pumps that have thousands of acres underwater, leaving many people homeless and without work in the South Delta since early spring. This is fact, not a scare tactic.

Jane said...

This is why Darla is a good choice: prosecutors in Mississippi never have to learn the rules because almost 100% of the judges in this state, most of whom are ex-prosecutors, let them do anything they want. Only defense attorneys have to learn the rules of evidence and the uniform criminal rules. After RSS, Hinds needs someone who will just prosecute the many criminals making Jackson a terrible place to live. After that ridiculously huge task is done, someone can start talking about restorative justice. And there's so much bad to say about Southern Poverty I wouldn't know where to begin.

Anonymous said...

I just got a job worj3ing for a subsidiary of Soros Group in Dubai. You plague rats can drown with this sinking shit bargeof a state! Im going to go live in Elysium!

Anonymous said...

Of the three candidates, Stan Alexander IS the prosecutor. Whichever of the other two loses, they would never be sought by a DA or AG as a member of their prosecution litigation team. Stanley will. He has made his enemies, especially with his misguided vendetta against RSS, but he also has a well-deserved reputation as a tough litigator and dedicated prosecutor. Neither of the other candidates can approach that. Hinds County needs a relentless prosecutor or crime will continue to spiral out of control. It won't get one with Owens or Palmer.

Anonymous said...

I live in northeast Jackson down the road from waller. I'm as conservative as they come. However, I vote in democrat primaries in Hinds co only bc I understand the logistics. This is how sheriff McMillan was defeated. The democrats knew these rich white Republican would vote Republican and help elect a loser like Tyrone. Just one example.

Anonymous said...

This all brings us back to the need for open primaries. How do we get it done? I am willing to help on this because closed primaries are about as un-American as anything can be.

Anonymous said...

You gooopers are trained to cringe at the mention of the soros name, the rest of the country has written this s-hole welfare state off, for the last 50 years under the weight con-serv-artist hate and corruption look at the ads on tv these people don't even have to run on a record down here holler about being a fake conservative xtian, show a truck, say something about supporting that idiot trump, and stump humpers line up for these corrupt fake con-artist like they are actually working to deliver this state from the pits of poverty that it dwells in. Hell a lot of problems in this state comes from the absolute bone head suicide vest stubbornness of the fake con-artist xtian right constantly shooting itself in the foot and then scape goating everyone except the sell-out shills that keep the state in its impoverished state, a lot of you have been living in $hit so long you don't even realize while folks outside the state wonder how anyone even still lives here.

Regardless of what those on here say... Mississippi is totally ass backwards on nearly every front of society. It's amazing to me after living here for 7 years just how far back the entire state truly is. Politics isn't really the full reason why. In my opinion it's due to culture... everyone is under the impression the states 4 year university system is a sports only institution. The priority of quality education is nil. Those students that do go to a top notch school seem to never return and thus we have major brain drain. This is a large factor for our mess as a whole.

4. His country of birth does not want him, and for good reason.
5. His intent is to destroy, not build.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
