The Waffle House on McDowell Road said enough is enough and shut it all down.

Way to go Jackson or what is left of Jackson. The city is just one disaster away from a black hawk down scenario. The tax base is almost fully eroded. What a radical city.

Probably for the best. Watch...the one on Highway 18 will be targeted next.

The “Gone to Sh!t” meter is pegged out of you have Waffle House closing up

Hey, Jackhole! You are the main antagonists in an Ayn Rand novel. The living embodiment of the inglorious dying, looter-filled, riot-riddled wastelands writ large in Atlas Shrugged.

It's not a Waffle House problem, it's a culture problem.

People will not obey the no guns allowed signs. Probably can’t read!

Will someone please tell me how much plywood to cover jackson.

I can't understand why their corporate office let the McDowel Road location stay open as long they did.

Proof that even large chains are FINALLY realizing that 'trying' to do business in Jackson, Mississippi is more idiotic than opening a new Chick-fil-A in downtown Mogadishu.

However, I do think a Waffle House next to the new motels in 'Fondren" would be a hit !

Same for 'Belhaven' . . . perhaps across the street from the Welty house ?

At least in Jackson when a business leave they remove their sign. In Pearl signs of closed business are all over the place. Hancock Fabrics, Capital Mensware, etc, etc.

Anonymous said...

There goes Jackson's "anchor business."

Anonymous said...

If Waffle House is closed there must be a SERIOUS hurricane on the way.

Julep was fine. Unfortunately, the owner got the idea to open a nice restaurant in Ridgeland. Fine dining. That place wound up dragging the whole thing down.

Anonymous said...

That huge sigh of relief you heard was Waffle House's insurance company.

Anonymous said...

Why the comment about Julep?

Anonymous said...

9:11 huh?

Anonymous said...

How is Stokes going to blame this on the suburbs or community activist going to complain and call Waffle House racists???

Anonymous said...

The social ills of Jackson are on the footsteps of the suburbs. In most places I have lived the cycle always included people moving to where their was better housing. You may think you can leave it behind but they always follow the housing. Development is coming back to Jackson slowly but surely, 30 years ago Downtown Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas were dead. Today it's a Mecca for development.

South Jackson used to be so nice and livable. Of course Stokes will just blame Flowood and Madison for its demise.

Anonymous said...

Don't get between Stokes and a stack of waffles. You'll be just a greasy memory.

This will be Seafood Revolution soon.

Plywood makes a nice canvas for artists in the hood ,or target practice.

WH has good food , prices, and service. the problem starts after midnight when everyone in there is on the downward slope of the intoxication curve.

Anonymous said...

Just like crime involves street justice sometimes economic justice in force.

Waffle House knew it would be better to close than pay for astronomical insurance & security 24 hrs a day.

Anonymous said...

I believe under Homeland Rules this is a "CODE RED ALERT"!

Anonymous said...

Oxford wants a Waffle House, but can't get one.

Everybody needs to chill. Chuckway Mumbamba is just cleaning house and making way for Jackson to become the Silicon Valley of the south. Am I the only one who remembers him claiming that?
Dear Chuckway,
If you can’t keep even keep a Waffle House open, you are seriously F—-ed! #WakeUpJackson.

Anonymous said...

Is Miskelly"s still open? I haven't seen any advertisements for a long time.

Anonymous said...

Yes... he wanted Jackson to become a Sam fransuco or Austin Texas or NYC... problem is he opposes gentrification and these cities mowed down miles and miles of low income housing. Only way to do it. Black city leaders hate this mainly be white population moves in and votes in a new mayor. Look at DC the city council is complaint the districts are becoming much too white and it's a issue for them not being reelected. They say this openly

Anonymous said...

It's only the perception of a closed Waffle House.

I’ve seen Waffle Houses in the worst of places in the worst of cities. This is embarrassing. Murders on the rise and businesses and revenue leaving. But let’s keep voting the same idiots into office in the name of “our” people. We have criminals that commit crimes in neighboring towns that come here because they can’t pursue them here. It’s become a safe haven for criminals and the citizens are actually applauding it. Stokes and his buddies have taken this city from bad to worse.

Anonymous said...

You don't know much about DC.

Anonymous said...

Imagine that.

It’s as if they’ve received their first water bill.

Anonymous said...

Could the Waffle House on High Street be next? After Erick Hambrick was beaten and robbed at that location and later died, I thought it would close.

Anonymous said...

Regarding Capital Menswear in Pearl...I was sad to find them closed down about six weeks ago. But, that decision was not in any way related to the type problems Waffle Grease was experiencing. The store was owned by one man who retired after probably 30 or more years.

What the hell are you talking about? Elaborate please.

I just got back from The District at Eastover. I’d ordered a delicious craft prosciutto pizza to go from Bocca Pizzeria. Lots of out of town cars in the full parking lot. (Madison, Rankin County tags). Cultivation Hall hopping! Wonder why they came all the way over here. Oh, right.

Anonymous said...

It's not closed. It's just getting remodeled with new gun ports and stealth signage

Anonymous said...

@ 8:12
Well, I'm glad you got your pizza in a timely manner... I waited an extra 20 min for mine. They get my order wrong frequently.

Pappy Odaniel said...

@8:12, if they can’t keep a Mexican restaurant open in the fattest state in America its not a good sign. Im sure their occupancy rate is fine otherwise and I have heard the timber business is booming over at Baker Donelson.

What 2:12 says is 100% correct! I've been saying this for a while and finally have a friend that understands!

Now, if we can get enough of the electorate to realize this we can move on and play the game. Conservatives should just get used to the fact that conservatism is dead and currency devaluation, the old fashion way of handling debt, is just part of the game that’s not going to change. If social security cuts occurred there would be protests and cities on fire, but when social security buys less due to inflation, the ignorant electorate has no clue why.

Fiscal conservatives should join we former fiscal conservatives and embrace our low income brothers and sisters, welcoming every dollar that flows into Mississippi via federal entitlement programs. The Pew Charitable Trusts estimates that 32.9 percent of Mississippi’s gross domestic product comes from federal spending. Let’s get that number up with the goal of a huge budget surplus for Mississippi!

As for crime, why do you think leftist want new gun laws to use against folks having done no harm to society, while using a catch and release revolving door system for violent criminals? Because so-called leaders like Kenneth Stokes have no job if crime goes away and gentrification begins. It’s 2 + 2 math!

P. S. When we get enough of the conservative base to understand why fixable crime never gets fixed, we can then join our socialist brothers and sisters in cutting a deal to tax the shit out of the super rich, including leftist supporters like Buffet, Gates, Bloomberg, Apple’s Tim Cook (also known as Tim Apple) that used the planned obsolescence system of programming our IPhone batteries to die early so he could keep his 100+ Million Dollar per year salary.

The deal has to be no tax increases on the middle class, or even the rich, but huge taxes on the super rich!!! No more bogus foundations posing as charities with generations of Rockefeller’s, Kennedy’s, and Vanderbilt heirs like Anderson Cooper never for even one day having to deal with what we commoners deal with. Buffet’s 80 Billion? 90+% goes to the U S Treasury upon his death! The Kennedy’s, after spending their entire lives never waking even one day wondering how will I pay rent or will I have enough to pay my car note? They have to get jobs like the rest of us!

Conservatives, if you want to kick the dog shit out of leftist, you beat them at their own game! It’s time to wake up and win.

I hope they remove all scrap metal and copper, that's the only thing the community want's is something to scrap....

@6:12 AM - spot on, especially the Stokes analysis!

8:12 - It's so easy to spot you fabricators. You're like the guy who posts crap like: I'm a lifelong republican and just buried my republican mother and republican wife and all my friends are time-honored republicans but I'm voting for Jimbo Hud for Governor.

Wonder when the WH on County Line Rd gets hit. The perps can run across the asphalt river into Jackastain and be lost in the mix.

Anonymous said...

1:42; Miskelly's is not in Jackson. Did you really not know that?

Anonymous said...

Where is Waffle House on County Line Road?

Anonymous said...

I threw up on the floor in there one time. Oh, there it is!....

Anonymous said...

At least when I get my pizza from the district I can go home to Madison and not get shot while eating

7:40, next to the Auto Zone Store near Peach Orchard Road light.

6:12 I know you are trolling.

Gates, Buffett and others have their fortunes in a Charitable Trust. Thats right, they want someone who has a decent estate to lose a large portion to estate taxes while shielding their own. I said it first, no one else has seemed to notice this.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
